Take the shortsword from the dead guy and stay by that tree, perhaps even try climbing up it as quietly as possible. Let's wait it out for a while to see if something comes out of there...

Roll To Dodge: Savral Turn 161

First time posts for this session require you to state a race and class of a Dnd/Fantasy RPG variety. This is an RTD with some continuity and I want to make sure you don't show up with space-themed stuff when that doesn't fit with the general theme. I also recommend reading through my previous posts to get a sense of how I run things and some of the things you don't want to do. You'll also get a sense of the stuff that's going on by doing so.

Undying Phoenix (5    1   ): You pray to the Fayth, whatever that is, and start chanting a hymn. A golden portal appears several feet up in the air, and the golden dragon Bahamut climbs out of it.

You hear the dragon let out a great scream and it explodes into a bloody pulp. A similar fate befalls your two summons, and the town begins to flood with blood.

HOW DARE YOU PRAY TO SOME OTHER GOD!!! THERE IS NO OTHER GODDESS BUT I!!! YOU ARE MY MANSLAVE!!! BOW DOWN BEFORE ME!!!

You see Cathy appear a few feet in front of you. She is not amused.

“Did you think your worthless little faith would save you from this predicament? Insolent fool! You dare commit such blasphemy against your loving mistress? Once this wizard disintegrates you to ashes, I shall see that you are punished for this indiscretion!    KYAHAHAHAHA!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”

Cathy suddenly disappears, and now you see Gandalf pointing his machine gun at your head.    You died.    You have gained the Eldritch Curse trait and the Divine Retribution trait. For the Eldritch Curse trait, whenever you perform a magical spell, there is a potential chance that some random stuff will happen. Cathy doesn’t feel like telling you what the Divine Retribution trait does, because you’ve been a bad boy.

Respawn?

Blackie {(5,5);(4,4)}: You reach your arm back, plunge your fist into the skull, and rip out the shark’s brains. Almost immediately after, you leap onto one of the sharks following you, and then bash the shark’s head in. Their greenish blood begins pouring out into the stream, and the other sharks begin to swim away.
Jondanger 23 (4): Even though you don’t remember seeing such a creature in your summoning book, you try summoning forth a floating lightbulb that shoots carrots. An orange summoning circle appears a few feet in front of you. A creature matching the description appears from a portal in the middle of the circle. Said creature has a smiley face. Your summoning slots are now full.
Yoloisfox (6): You are now a dwarf blacksmith. You come with a hammer along with some other smithing tools. You also come with chainmail and basic supplies.

You find yourself in the middle of a dense forest, with the sky glowing a greenish hue above. You see a small stream floating nearby you, but instead of water it flows with chocolate. Furthermore, you see several red-and-white lollipops sprouting out of the ground, and the tree trunks look rubbery. High up in the sky, you see an emerald town floating on top of a cloud, with a rainbow leading up to it.

You begin chopping down some of the trees, using an axe in your inventory, and begin trying to construct a shed for yourself. After about an hour of labor, you finish your shed. However, when you turn to admire your work, you see five large treants standing before you. They don’t seem to be amused.

Cybersbe (2->3): When you look at Jadice, she simply smiles at you, lifts her leg off, and ruffles your hair. “That’s a good boy,” she whispers into your ear. You continue waiting, hoping she’ll lift her attention off you.

Sometime during the feast, you hear a loud, panicked scream come from the hall behind you.

One of the shades speaks up, “Is something wrong?”

Jadice waves the comment off, “No, no, there’s nothing to worry about. I just need to take care of some business.”

She stands up, ties your leash to the arms of the chair and the table’s legs, and begins to walk away from the table. As you examine your leash to see if you can break it, you notice a faint white glow emit from the leash, the chair, and the table legs.

You hear her voice speak from inside your head.    “Now, don’t you cause any trouble while I’m away. If you do, you’ll just have to be disciplined, okay? Ehehehehe…”

Almost as soon as she leaves the room, several of the shades turn to look at you. They seem to stare at you intently, but they remain silent.

Feathered Dragon (5,5): You shake your fist at the sky, prompting a few dragonborn to give you queer looks. You then spin round and round, and then run off in a random direction, which just happens to be the way you came. As you run along the beach, you eventually find several gold coins just lying on the ground. As you look out into the ocean, you see a large sand bar stretching for quite some distance into the ocean. When you look into the waters underneath, you see some sort of stone structure holding this up. As you look around, you eventually see some sort of wooden door hidden under a thin layer of sand.
Philosopher (3): You hide out of sight and then use the crystal orb to create a hologram to distract the zombies. The stupid manslave appears and does his stupid dance. The zombies turn to face the hologram, but they largely remain in place.

Either way, you begin to sneak around the buildings to try and enter the main palace. Even as you walk up right next to them, the zombies don’t seem to react to your presence. You aren’t sure whether this is because they’re too busy being distracted by the manslave or whether it’s because they aren’t particularly interested in you.

You walk through the main doorway, pass through the antechamber, and enter the main hall.note  The banners inside seem to have been replaced by the ones you saw outside, and the ornate carpet seems to be missing. Furthermore, you see several sarcophagi lined along the edges of the hall, including one seated in place of the throne. The floor seems to be lined with dust, along with traces of dried up blood. The left door at the end of the room is open.

You hear a voice all around you.    “Ehehehehehehe… My, my, it’s been such a long time since I’ve someone so worthy to be one of my servants… Tell me, do you like what you see? I can grant you any wish that you may desire. But come… come deeper. I promise I’ll be gentle… Ehehehehehe…”

Mathleticism (1): You blindly charge into one of the portals. Unfortunately, you don’t remember which one the golem took, so you go into one at random. Your other golems don’t seem to follow after you.

Once through, you find yourself in an unbearably dark cave. The portal almost immediately closes behind you. The only thing you can see is a large, ghostly bear floating a few feet in front of you. Its head is twisted slightly to the left, and you see several mangled dwarf spectres flanking it. Whenever your eyes don’t focus on any of the given spectres, they seem to jump around on the edge of your vision. As you look at them, you hear a painful, high-pitched, static-like ringing sound, and your ears begin to bleed.

MrJikoui (1): You reach one of your hands out of the bars, trying to choke one of the guards. The shade to the left of the cell instantly chops off your left hand, and you begin to bleed. Several rats and bugs start scurrying over to your hand rotting on the ground.
BC The Entity (4): After responding, you begin trying to reform your own map orb. You seem to be successful, as the orb appears in front of you. You examine it. You seem to be relatively close to the western coast of the Old God Crusaders territory, and you also seem to be a few miles south of the southern bend of the river going through the Ixali domain. Furthermore, the blip labeled “Vessel of the Old God” seems to have moved significantly northward since you last saw it, and it seems to be slowly drifting toward the blip labeled “Portal to Enri’s Pyramid.” You figure it’s safe to assume that this is the entity that was speaking to you earlier, though you aren’t sure why you think that.

Either way, you begin heading north, delving into the jungle. You walk for hours upon hours on end. During this, you pass by many abandoned orc villages. You eventually come to the southern bend of the main river, where you see a makeshift settlement with rafts docked nearby. Several of the orcs here are carrying anti-octarine weapons. A few of them offer to ferry you downstream to get you to the crusading army, and you accept this. You begin heading in a northwesterly direction as the raft drifts toward the main fork in the river, where you pass by several active settlements. Eventually you reach a station at the other side, and you thank the orc for his efforts. You continue in a Northeasterly direction. Sometime during your travels, the “Vessel of the Old God” stops in place, but you continue following it. After hours upon hours of traveling, you see a bright light hanging in the sky, and the jungle begins to give way to savanna. Several hide tents lie up ahead, and the destination blip is only half a mile away.

Black Mage Anolis (6): You acquire the shortsword from the dead guy near the tree and begin to climb it. You climb up higher and higher and higher. You don’t remember the tree being this high when you saw it. After about ten minutes of climbing, the sky around you starts to emit a strange green glow. Furthermore, gravity seems to shift toward the trunk of the tree, and now it seems to be at least fifty feet wide. You continue walking forward.

Suddenly, you see a unicorn corpse emerge from the bark. Its head spins 360 degrees and then speaks.    “Welcome to Wonderland, boy… KYAHAHAHAHA!!! EYAHAHAHAHA!!!”

When you turn around, the rest of the tree trunk seems to have disappeared, leaving only the back end of a stump floating in some sort of octarine space. You have no choice but to move forward. Furthermore, a number of bloody tentacles with unicorn faces emerge from the stump.

I think I'm missing the new perk in your recent updates, Cathy. Just so you know.

Huh. Neat. I guess I'll keep moving North, then... what were the other two witches the God mentioned? "The white witch", who sounds like she's well out of my league at present, and somebody in the far-Northern land of Sfal...

...I bet that's Beatrice. In fact, I'm nearly positive it is. And would you look at that? There just so happens to be an army of orcs ready to take her on. Maybe. It might be another witch entirely. I should ask what said Northern witch's powers are, what she can do... and, more specifically, whether she can create or summon new monstrosities to fight for her. If the God knows, of course. I wonder, can it... he, it, he... can the God hear what I'm thinking right now? Or am I too far away for that? I suppose it doesn't really matter, but in any case, I know which witch I'd rather go for next. If Grimhilde is too powerful for reasons of loads of orcs, maybe Beatrice will be more defeatable, for reasons of... my now having an army to handle her with. Blegh. Still not great odds, but... somewhat better, perhaps. I hope.

I was once a boy... but now, I am a man. Or at least old enough to know better, anyway.

Roll To Dodge: Savral Turn 162

First time posts for this session require you to state a race and class of a Dnd/Fantasy RPG variety. This is an RTD with some continuity and I want to make sure you don't show up with space-themed stuff when that doesn't fit with the general theme. I also recommend reading through my previous posts to get a sense of how I run things and some of the things you don't want to do. You'll also get a sense of the stuff that's going on by doing so.

Jondanger 23 (5): You continue walking along the shoreline, towards the village up ahead. You also see a small dock with several plank vessels docked alongside it. As you pass under the cliff, you see a human guard in scale armor address you from a tower. “You there, mage! You heard the sign? The elves are coming!”

At the edge of the forest, you see a large force of elves, a few of which are riding unicorns, gather around. You also begin to hear the felling of trees in the distance.

BC The Entity (5): As you contemplate, you check your map orb once again, and rotate it to the “Sfali Wastelands.” As the map rotates, you can’t help but notice a blip labeled, “The Witch Yukari” in the mountain range on the southern end of “Spyrus.” This area is probably what the old god was referring to when he said the “Northern land of Sfal.” You do not see many blips in this area, aside from a few towns labeled “Tgan,” which lies on the northern coast; “Sfan,” which a bit southeast of Tgan in the mountain range; and “Kvalis,” which lies somewhere west of Sfan.

Then, the orb starts acting on its own, and rotates to the large territory of the Puzov Dominion. Many of the cities within this territories are labeled with names such as “District-2,” “District-12,” “District-5,” and so on. Only the capital of Puzov itself, lying at the fork of the river in the middle portion of Puzov territory, does not follow this designation system. Next to about four of these cities, you see blips labeled “Overseer-1,” “Overseer-2,” and so on. As the map zooms in on Puzov, you see a blip labeled “The Witch Beatrice.” Somewhere in the mountain range in the north end of this territory, you see two blips, one of which is labeled “Gandalf,” and the other of which says “Undying Phoenix died here.”

The old god speaks to you,    Perhaps you do not remember my exact words, but I do not recall saying that a witch resides in the lands of Sfal. I only mentioned that its lands must be purified and made whole once again, after the damage wrought by the unicorns.

So you wish to learn about The Witch Beatrice. She may lack the same psionic powers as The Witch Grimhilde, but you may find her a more formidable foe. Unlike the blue-haired Witch, the Black Witch is not limited in her choice of minions though the requirement of a mental link. The Black Witch can shape the forces of creation to her own liking, and all creatures that she creates serve under her dominion. Almost all of the Puzov army that once assailed the Harkad Empire had been her own creation. Furthermore, she is one of the few individuals who can take on the form of a dragon, should you decide to confront her directly. However, you may find her army weakened in this our by the onslaught of the fey denizens of Kadath. You have seen all too well what sort of destruction the dreamland’s faeries and emerald castles can bring to these mortal lands. You may bring the crusade to her if you wish, but proceed cautiously.

As you consider the old god’s words, the map rotates once more until it’s centered on the Gajj desert. A bit north of the oasis, you see a blip labeled “Enri’s pyramid,” along with several portals going to various locations on the edges of the desert. Near this blip, you also see a blip labeled “The Witch Jadice.” A few miles northeast of the pyramid, you see two blips labeled “Cybersbe,” and “Enri’s vessel.”

Yoloisfox (4): You ask the treants if they want to go in your shed like some sort of serial killer. They look at each other, and then try stepping through the door you’ve made. The first one that goes in makes a giant hole through the door frame. For the moment, they seem to have forgotten that you’ve cut down their brethren and are now more preoccupied with trying to get in your shed.
Cybersbe (5): You curl up in a ball as if scared by the shades. A few of them stand up, their eyes still watching you. As they start distancing themselves from each other, a few of the others break their stares, looking up at the others.

“What’s going on here?” one of them says.

You see one of the shades circle around behind you. You feel his left hand wrap around the back of your neck, and you feel a strangely soothing energy start to flow within you.

“Death to the false Seer!”

The hand suddenly grabs on tight, and within a second, you find yourself in a deep, dark cavern, illuminated only by glowing orbs floating overhead. You are no longer under the influence of Jadice’s Pact.

The shade dashes on ahead of you, “Run, before she catches wind of what’s going on!”

As you observe the shade run on ahead, several more shades, wearing only loincloths, appear out of portals just a few feet behind you. They briefly look around at their surroundings, before standing up and running ahead.

Black Mage Anolis (5): You continue moving forward, stepping past the wooden unicorn. At the edges of your vision, the shadowy tentacles creep up behind you, but you make no reaction toward them. Eventually, they disappear from sight. Eventually the trunk curves out to another grassy plain, running perpendicular to the trunk. As you walk forward, the gravity seems to shift towards the new ground. Should you turn around to examine the trunk, it appears to be a normal tree.

In this new area, the sky above glows a pinkish hue. A narrow, chocolate stream runs a few feet in front of you. The grass seems to reflect the sunlight with a sugary, crystaline texture, and many lollipops grow throughout the plains. The sun shining above seems to be smiling, with a great rainbow hanging underneath.

As you examine the scenery, a one-foot tall midget wearing a green, leprechaun-like outfit steps in front of you. “Welcome! Welcome, to the Dream Lands of Unknown Kadath! Here you shall find many sweets and surprises! Come my boy! Let us travel to the Munchkin village!”

Feathered Dragon (4): You begin gathering up as many gold coins as you can see into your pouch and pocket them. You also walk along the sand bar in an attempt to examine the “stone structure.” The stone underneath the sand bar seems to be relatively smooth. On the outer faces, you see a number of mermaid-like shapes. There also seems to be a slight greenish glow on the wall. As you step across the bar, occasionally you feel your feet touch flattened stone. Should you reach your ear to the ground, the ground underneath seems hollow. On the stone faces outside, there doesn’t seem to be any obvious entrance, and the wooden door seems to be the only way in.
Philosopher (2): You wait for the voice to respond to your statement, but you don’t hear any response. You begin walking toward the left door at the end of the room.

As you approach, you blink for second, and you now find the the door is suddenly closed. Furthermore, one of the sarcophagi seems to have appeared right in front of the door. You hear a voice hiss out from deep inside it, almost like a whisper, “Help us…”

Oh, I see, so Sfal isn't necessarily a monster-ridden deathhole... I mean, uh... that is to say, there aren't witches there. And what, those crystals from earlier were faeries? That explains a lot. Damn faerie pricks. Anyways, uh... I mean, I guess restoring Sfal would be a good place to start. Y'know, if I don't just decide to kill Beatrice first... on the one hand, from the sounds of things, now is the perfect time to try and murder her. On the other hand, I'm about 90% certain that I'll die just as quickly against her as I did against Grimhilde, and possibly even faster if what the God says has any truth to it. Regardless, I'm definitely not going anywhere near Jadice until I'm absolutely goddamn certain that I'm ready for that degree of bullshit, so that removes one option... but should I go for Beatrice or Sfal? Honestly, if I'm going to try and kill Beatrice directly anyway, it doesn't necessarily matter when I kill her, whereas if I fix up Sfal first, I can probably gather resources and build an army or something... y'know, if I don't die horribly in the process. Still, better than dying so soon after I just saved myself from dying. Well, dying-dying. Doubledying. Yeah.

"So, uh..." I begin. "Let's say I do go to Sfal to try and stop that place from being as torn apart as you say it is. Uhm... how exactly would I go about that? As in, what significant purifications and unifications would need to be enacted in order to make it, y'know, not suck? Is there a plague going round? Is there a specific single race trying to obliterate the usual residents just because? I need some hints, basically, and would be thankful if you could tell me what's over there."

Man, that's some mildly more flowery than usual language I'm using. I guess he... it, he, it... I guess the god is a god, thus deserving at least a fair amount of respect.

I was once a boy... but now, I am a man. Or at least old enough to know better, anyway.

Blackie (6): You try eating the shark’s brain. After a few seconds, you start to feel nauseous, and you begin vomiting. At the same time, the river begins to descend, until you land on some sort of strange, manure like surface. As you continue puking, the floor begins to give way underneath you, and the manure starts drifting on top of you as you sink. Sometime later, you hear water flowing once again, along with the sounds of buzzing flies. Because of how much you’ve vomited, you feel extraordinarily weak, and you will probably die if you take any damage. As you dig your way out, you find yourself in some sort of sewer. It is fairly dark under here, and the flies start burrowing under your skin.
Yoloisfox (4): You run away like a coward as the treants are distracted. As you follow the chocolate river, you eventually exit the forest, where you now seem to be standing right next to a great waterfall. Candy cane spires dot the landscape below, and you see a steamship made out of golden tinfoil trudging along the river below. You see several one-foot tall people dancing around on the vibrant plains below, singing. The cliff sort of circles around to your right, and part of it juts far above the landscape. It looks like it could break off at any moment. At the far end of this extension, you see a ruby palace sitting just on the edge, with a single licorice spire extending down to the ground. Farther up ahead, on the plains below, you see a large village with houses made out of cupcakes.
BC The Entity (4):    The denizens of that once luscious, fertile land are dead. Have you ever been to the Witchlands in the far north, that vast domain of the Usurper and her minions? The same fate that once befell those long lost civilizations has come to Sfal. There was once an immortal like yourself, who traveled those vast forests and plains when they were still green. But when he wandered deep into the elf-occupied woods of Srujjan, he succumbed to the torments of one of the unicorns that resided there. Soon, the unicorn would grow unmatched, stretching its foul tentacles across the plains. The people there formed together to try and resist, but they too were devoured by the unicorn. There was another immortal, winged like the White Witch, who tried to test his strength against the growing unicorn abomination, but he too was swallowed up by its mandibles, allowing it to ascend to a higher form.

The unicorn no longer occupies those lands, but its fell taint still lurks there. A dark, twilit cloud like that of the northern witchlands lurks over those now ash-laden fields, preventing all plantlife from growing. Remnants of the unicorn’s older shell may still cause this darkness to linger, so destroying them may return the sky to those lands. From there, even the magic of common shamans and druids should be able to restore those plains, though it may take longer for animals to return. Be wary though, for those lands may be inhabited by the undead, and lesser unicorns may still linger there. It is also possible that that unicorn may return to its old homeland, whatever form it has now taken. Go forth, and restore the world to its natural order.

Jondanger 23 (5,3,1): You run up toward the elves and try to use the banish unicorn spell on their mounts. As you get close, the elves start launching arrows at you. Your skeleton and lightbulb thing follow close behind, firing carrots and javelins at the elves. You try using your spell on the frontmost unicorn, which disappears once you make the incantation. You try repeating the spell again, but the second unicorn just shimmers. During this time, your summons manage to eliminate about four elves. When you try banishing a third unicorn, you feel a spike gouge you from behind, and a hoof lands firmly on your back.

“Oh, I’m sorry, you missed! Better luck next time!”

Several of the elves dismount and then skewer you with their many blades. One of them goes through the back of your neck.    You died.    Respawn?

Black Mage Anolis (1->2): “Ohohoho! You ask me too many questions, laddie. Come, come! Why don’t you see the village for yourself?”
Philosopher (5): You try calling out to the person who spoke to you earlier. You hear no response. You get the feeling that whoever spoke to you earlier is probably residing somewhere deep within the palace, though she doesn’t seem to be watching you for the moment. It’s probably for the better. You don’t know how long it will be before she returns though.

Seeing this relaxation in surveillance, you whisper to the sarcophagus. The voice responds, “I once served in the royal guard… We are… suspended… The White Witch… Jadice… she keeps us alive… uses us… tortures us… Her blade… the burning… it never ends… We can’t escape… We want to die…”

You aren’t sure whether the person inside the sarcophagus can open it, so you try opening it yourself. Inside, you see a nearly mummified zombie, wearing only a loincloth. The inside of the sarcophagus you see a number of spikes glowing with holy radiance. The zombie steps out, dragging its way across the floor. “Thank you…”

It tries stepping towards the other sarcophagi and tries to pry them open. You then go around the room opening the sarcophagi, where you see a number of other zombies. After you free them all, one of them walks over behind the throne, and pulls out a thick scroll inlaid with red writing. You unravel it, and your mind automatically starts reading through the text, causing you to read the incantation out loud. A blinding light suddenly shines in your eyes, and for a moment you see nothing but red. You have learned the spell Cure Light Wounds. You can now heal yourself.

One of the zombies steps forward and says, “Get us away from here… away from the Witch… so we can die in peace…”

“Leave this place… Leave before you become her next pet…”

FeatheredDragon (3): You open the wooden door and look down in. Inside, you see stairs going down into a long hallway. The hallway seems to go far beyond the reaches of the sand bar, and at the far end, you see two humanoid statues standing guard to an open doorway, beyond which lies darkness. You’ll probably have to go in to see what lies beyond.
Cybersbe (2): You try running after the other shades, but due to your sore legs, you trip over and fall. Several of the other shades run past you. After about a minute of struggling on the ground, you see two of the shades you saw in the dining hall appear behind you.

“Shit, isn’t this…”

“No time, we’ve got to run before that witch finds out what’s going on.”

Undying Phoenix (Free): Once again, you are a half-elf summoner. You have exactly the same equipment as before, and your summoning slots reset. Cathy doesn’t remember what she was going to have Divine Retribution do, but it’s supposed to be bad, so she’ll just think of something later.

You find yourself in a large cavern, with a vast pool of lava in front of you. You find yourself warming up quickly, and bits of molten metal shoot up from the pool ahead. As far as you can see, there doesn’t seem to be a way out, but you’ll need to explore the area further.

"Great. I guess that is it this time." I sit down and begin to pray silently.

Well. That sounds like a quest and a half. Seeing as how I still have hands, I clap and rub them together, say "Right then, let's get on with it," and... look at the magic globe for directions. I don't believe the portals lead to Sfal, but better to make sure before anything else. If one of them does, I'll go over to that portal and enter it; if they don't, I'll just teleport over there. I should probably ask the orcs if they want to help out with the whole land cleansing quest too, before either of those. That'll probably work out well.

I was once a boy... but now, I am a man. Or at least old enough to know better, anyway.

Their words hold much truth. "Come, I know of a way to quickly leave."

I attempt to break off one of the holy spikes before leading the zombies to the portal transit.

It comes. The corrupter comes. Don't let it touch the tower lest all reality crumble.

I try to get up and keep running.

What is this "signature" of which people speak?
