Pillar Meme.
My main issue with Part 2 is that Joseph seems to be the only relevant character among the heroes. No one else gets to do anything. With the exception of Stroheim. I still find "the Nazis saved the world" funny. I think these and other things made me (weirdly?) aware of how only the white European dude got to do anything.
I just don't think it's really all that well-written personally. Joseph is a fun and flashy character but I prefer Jolyne and Johnny because I think they have better character arcs.
If Caesar wasn't such a dummy, he wouldn't even have died and Part 2 would have been lighter than Part 4.
I'd say Part 2 is one of the weaker parts, but while you're on Mr. Joestar's Wild Ride it's easier to just go with it than stop and think about its flaws. Good thing we can all binge it, because having a week between chapters couldn't do it any favors.
Oh, and I'd disagree with Part 2's Hamon being more bullshit than Part 1. Once you've used your sunbeam martial arts to magnetize leaves into a hang glider, I'd say you've reached Peak Bullshit and can, at worst, plateau from there.
You do remember some of the stuff Joseph does with Hamon in Part 2, right? Including the pigeon? And the bulletproof hair shield? And the magnetized icicle rope?
That's the main reason why I think it's so popular. Joseph is charismatic enough, and such a stark contrast from Jonathan, that people tend to just enjoy the over-the-top ness of it all and leave it at that.
The thing about Part 1/2 that I find kinda fascinating is how good it is despite Araki just starting to get out of his novice phase after having already written only a few other non-jojo stories beforehand. And if I remember correctly they weren't even as long as jojo as a whole is.

Warrior to the very end! My tumblr, dood!Personally I think Araki only started to get into his groove around part 4 or so. That's when the characterization started to become more of a priority, and around part 5 or so I think he started to become interested in dealing with more adult and ambitious subjects which is why he left 2 parts later to go to Ultra Jump.
Yes? I guess I was unclear, because that doesn't really impact anything I was saying. Once the bullshit threshold has been pushed out far enough to encompass using solar energy to magnetize leaves into a functional hang glider in the middle of combat, it encompasses basically anything, including all the bullshit in Part 2. Thus, Peak Bullshit.
I have to agree that 'leaf hanglider' is more bullshit than 'icicle chain'.
I mean, leaf hanglider is already a thing in Zelda...
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!That's one really big leaf, as opposed to a bunch of normal sized leaves stuck together with magnetism, of all things.
Part 2 had a lot of strengths and memes, and the anime introduced some, too. Remember, this is the arc that brought us:
- Sex: USELESS
- Holy Wubstorm
- "Your next words will be..."
- GERMAN SCIENCE
- playing someone else's leg like a guitar
- FUCKING PIRANHAS! FUCKING PIRANHAS! (though this came from abridged)
- the terrifying squirrel
- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... Jojo!
Pretty much everything Stroheim said was a meme.
Stroheim is best Nazi.
True, yet weird out of context.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!Damnit, I just got to pedo-rangutan and its friggen' ship Stand. Who thought this was okay? I want to know who to blame for this travesty.
Also, I just realized that Jotaro and Charlie Brown have the exact same catchphrase, and now I can't unhear it.

I've seen Yara yara daze translated as "what a pain(in the ass)" so good grief is just a g-rated translation.
lol I don't know why people get so bugged by the Strength chapter/episode. Yeah he's creepy and disturbing but he's supposed to be. Remember animals have no concept of rape or age legal, so disturbing as it is Forever's actions are exactly the sort of thing a male animal with super powers would do. While not my favorite fight the imagery of an orangutan in a captain's outfit solving a rubix cube remains one of the most quintessential bizarre moments in Jojo. Idk I actually loved how depraved and evil part 3's villains were. Still the best set of minor villains IMO.
—-Resisting urge to watch Jojo again—-
I feel Ebony Devil is where part 3 hit its stride though, as the villains started to feel more colorful, even when they're one episode wonders. It's also one of the best directed fights in the show. I know some people don't like the VOTW format(personally I find myself not so bugged by this considering I grew up with that as the standard but coming off from the more continuous arc format of the previous 2 parts it's easy to see why) but part 3 felt like Jojo really found its own identity in regards to stands, the overarching theme of family, and just the overall bizarre aspect which gets played up more from here on out. Part 1 and 2 feel mundane compared to every part after it
On stroheim: I honestly feel a lot of fans misunderstand his character and pump him up to be a lot more admirable than he actually was. I feel like Araki never intended for the audience to actually think of the guy as heroic and fully redeemed as he's portrayed as often biting off more than he could chew due to his arrogance with his heroic actions being a result out of necessity to beat the greater evil rather than some goodwill. Stroheim never stopped being the dude who was going to kill a bunch of Mexicans for the evilz. yet you have a bunch of fans who are all about DA MEMES! and GERMAN SCIENCE! Yeah he come to respect Joseph but he's still an SS Nazi POS.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Oh yeah, no, Stroheim is a horrible person and I didn't even feel bad when he died in the epilogue, but he was so ridiculously awesome that he earned my respect. It's kind of like how Vegeta is really cool in parts of the Freeza and Cell Sagas, despite still being an evil bastard.
The coolest thing Vegeta ever did was to blow himself up. Not that it did any good, mind you.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I'm equally baffled and impressed Araki had the Nazis' help to be crucial to save the world. Well, I guess it's their reason the world was endangered in the first place.
The Pillar Men are a bit of a meme.
