Untrue. Finn has actually aged rather nicely as the show has progressed. Look at season one Finn vs. Finn now; he's a lot more level-headed, and less spastic.
As for Ice King, while he didn't exactly progress in this episode, I think it only deepened his tragedy. We've seen all the weird, pathetic, twisted stuff he does all day throughout the show, but no one, not even Finn or Jake, has really called him out on it. He's been able to live in his own little make-believe land where he's a normal, swinging bachelor instead of a perverted creep. Seeing him being confronted with his own problems, and immediately lashing out in fury, was kind of heart-breaking. And I do think this is helping to set up something further down the line. Like "Isla De Senorita" or even "Nice King", while there are no real changes to the Ice King's character, it does give us a tiny bit more insight into his mania and how it works. I'm sure all those little bits of knowledge will come into play once Betty returns.
I think the main point of this episode is that folks had mistaken "Ice King is able to be social with people" for "Ice King's behavior on the whole has improved", and so they needed to show that those aren't the same thing.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.Perhaps thought that audiences were thinking too highly of Ice King? That's a good possibility.
It would make a lot of sense...
Despite my screen-name, ranting to you about One Piece is not my top priority. That's true. Hell, even I fell into that trap. Between Tom Kenny's winning voice work, the hilarious writing, and all the humanizing backstory stuff, it is easy to forget that Ice King is a really dangerous, unstable guy.
I just realized I never saw this video linked here and that is a goddamn tragedy. It's so good you guys.
That is really well done and surprisingly fitting. The animation at the end is beautiful and the backgrounds are surprisingly detailed for a storyboard.
I compliment the Ice King for not spending as much time kidnapping princesses as he used to, but I never dropped the impression that he was still a weirdo who doesn't know how to connect with people.
It's one giant mental illness allegory. He can only improve so far without addressing the root problem (in his case, the crown). Similar to how a mentally ill person could be worse, or be better, under their own power, but they're not just going to get over it without outside help.
Yeah, I understand all of that. My problem with the episode is that without any progress, it just feels like a rehash of what we've seen before. If they felt some fans needed a reminder that the Ice King has issues, fine, but that's not a reminder I needed. Because of that, the episode did nothing for me.
Going by the new episode dealies, I'm quite curious about Jake's brother. I thought he was dead or something.
When you wish upon a side of beef, soon will come an end to all your griefI'm looking forward to meeting Jermaine.
For awhile I thought Jake might have killed Jermaine during that flashback where he hurts him and vows never to fight again. They didn't say he was dead, and the two were apparently just boxing, but I thought maybe it was supposed to be a spoof of stories where one sibling causes the death of another sibling through carelessness.
Well Jermaine just said they were dreaming at the same time.
I also wonder how he'll take to Jake being a "dad" to his kids.
"We be we baby!"I hope they get whoever the voice actor was in "Crystals Have Power" back again. He only had like one line, but he was still great.
In the meantime, shall we speculate about the other upcoming episodes? We already have summaries for "Chips and Ice Cream" (BMO's favorite artists find a new home in the treehouse.) and "Graybles 1000+" (Cuber has to survive in a strange planet with its graybles), but what about the rest? I'm hoping "Hoots" has the Cosmic Owl, I'm 90% sure that "Be Sweet" will feature Sweet Pee becoming aware of the monster inside him and beginning to struggle with it, and it seems pretty obvious that "The Comet" will be the season finale, so whatever weird connection Finn has with the comet should be explained then. I have no clue about "On the Lam", "Orgalorg", "You Forgot Your Floaties" or "Hot Diggity Doom" though.
Wasn't Jermaine voiced by the same actor as Jake?
Sounded like Jon Dimaggio to me.
Jermaine seriously sounds like he's got a new VA.
"We be we baby!"That has to be the same person who plays Greg Universe.
So, Jermaine has been building up this thought process of having to watch over the family possessions and felt like he was just stuck in a dead end. Kind of deep.
"We be we baby!"Yeah, there's no way that's not Tom Scharpling.
Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.I sense a spin-off.
"With Jermaine the Dog and Bryce the Demon the fun will never end, it's Adventure Time!"
I enjoyed this quite a bit. Jermaine was pretty much the opposite of what I expected; from his appearance in "Crystals have Power," as well as Pen's (I think it was Pen" comment about how Jermaine mostly keeps to himself and does finger-painting, I thought he would be ever MORE Bohemian than Finn and Jake. So it was a bit of a surprise to see him in more of a Kim Kil Wan role here.

Anyone else notice that the tombstones on dream-Jermaine's ears said "J" and "M"? As in, Joshua and Margret?
I could say the same for Finn. He gets one arc per season or so, then he reverts back.
"We be we baby!"
