Not really, no. Injuries don't often get beyond the 'covering in little lines that are probably supposed to represent scratches, bruises and dirt' stage. The only non-fatal thing that's remotely comparable I can think of offhand was the time Acnologia took off Gildartz' arm. But that happened offscreen anyway.

Episode 2 maybe since you get more characterization and meet a ton more characters there.
If it doesn't "click" with you straight away, keep at it. The first couple arcs are kinda eh but somewhere around Episode 20 I think is when the Phantom Lord Arc starts and that's when I officially became a huge Fairy Tail fan.

Considering that the openings mispell it as Fa Ery Tail,you're close.
I'd suggest the manga instead,since it's relatively faster to catch up with,unless you're not a fan of *ahem* the freeloading method.

I concur. Its a 4 vol story called Ohage I believe. Found all four copies at the near by barnes & nobles alongside another manga Mashima did called Monster Soul.
