Gentlemen, I'm placing a moratorium on Glee until I fall in love again, because, the way things are right now, I can't relate. At all.

Klaine is going to end up back together. Not trying to sound like a jerk, but they've already been appointed the "LGBT Rolemodels" of the show. That was the same reason they didn't explore the possibility of Blaine being Bi ironically enough.

Saw the makeover ep. Brody is...a contradiction.

[up]Standard escalation tactic, saying the opposite of what you do. You'll find it in any good PUA manual. Helps overcome last minute resistances, shame, and so on, and allows everyone to bypass their inhibitions and have a good time.

Alternately, he said hands off, he didn't say anything about anything else.

...no. I'm sorry. No. If you are going to claim to not do something, and then you do it anyway, you're lying. It's deceitful and manipulative.

Well, yes, obviously. But, when it comes to romance, ambiguity, lies, and overall confusion are absolutely everything. Discussions don't proceed logically, the words are just a smokescreen for the implications, the body language, the subtle cues that form the meat of the communication. Lying in those situations equates to wearing a shirt that says "I am not human"; nobody's expected to actually believe the words that come out your mouth.

Unless you're dealing with someone who's obviously too naive. But Rachel invited him to her home and tried to cook for him and has been head over heels for him from the start. She knew what she wanted to happen, and so did he.

...this is a horrifying concept to think of. There are plenty of ways to be romantic in a safe sane and consensual way, withuot having to LIE.

You just need to be sure that the other party actually knows your lies for what they are. It's like roleplaying.

At no point was there EVER any indication AT ALL that this was roleplaying. He said one thing, did another. And the way the camera angled it, it looked like HE initiated it, even though he claimed he wouldn't. I don't care if you can claim it being fine, the way it was executed was NOT.

"She enjoyed it" is not a viable excuse for any such things, especially when you're writing a story, where you want a character to come off as sympathetic (Brody) and you can control the reaction of everyone, and add (Finn) or remove (Rachel) drama wily nily.

Hehe, I was just thinking about this...

Isn't lying like a common thing in the world? Even "innocently"? You act okay even if you're not, you're civil to people that you'd rather murder, and you say you're hands-off even when the urge is so great to put your hands on?

...well the last one's not so innocent, but the others more.

Yeah, lying is common, but usually it's not done in such a dumbass way, and when you're writing characters you're supposed to sympathize with, it's usually a good idea to give them some moral fibre.

Naturally.

Well then who's most at fault. Brody for kissing, Rachel for kissing back, or Finn for giving her space and then ignoring her calls...

Hm.

Saying you're hands off when you want to be hands-on is one thing. Saying you're hands off and immediately being hands-on is quite another!

[up]I hate to say it, but... I think Finn. I know he meant well, but he really messed up.

@Haldo Hehe. [lol]

What I think is funniest is how fans seem to be mad at all the characters for some thing or another, yet they applaud or pity the actors for great performances or horrible characters.

Moral fiber, on Glee? [lol]

Moral fiber as a necessary condition for sympathy? Have you ever heard of the Ice King?

I said it's usually a good idea. And since none of these characters are antagonists, they don't get antagonist leeway. I said it right there in my post. I don't know why you chose to misread it as "necessary" when I said "usually"

Everyone on Glee needs to have some What the Hell, Hero? moments to show that they're flawed.

The idea is that regardless, they become better for it.

Finn has the awful self-esteem problems and the idea that he's not good at anything, so he pushes Rachel away.

Rachel wants to get better as a performer but can't deal with a boyfriend who treats her like a little girl who can't focus with him.

And Brody...was a skinny little nobody who blossomed into a guy that every girl at NYADA wants to date and focuses instead on a freshman with boyfriend troubles...?
