So, it looks as though for the first time in Iowa history three Supreme Court justices will not be retained due to their reading (unanimous, by the way) that the state Constitution extends equal protection of law to same-sex couples.

I'm... really not sure what to say about this, but it's not pleasant, and involves the politicizing of the judiciary and the tyranny of the majority intimidating judges who otherwise would be willing to uphold minority rights.

...strange sense of deja vu here. Did I just see a thread about this? (I did, in IJBM)

So, if I understand it right, Justicies in Iowa are voted into office, rather than being appointed?

^ Colorado is similar. Every so often election wise judges are put up for a retaining vote. If retained they keep their jobs, if not somebody else is appointed.

We do not vote in a judge, we just vote to keep them around or not.

Oh I'm so glad to see a topic here, I was annoyed the one in IJBM is locked.

But I'm glad Rott's posts were thumped, because if they were that bad, I probably wouldn't contain myself very well.

   I'm not happy.
