It just screams "Welcome to hell, baby. Enjoy your stay." doesn't it?
I think the doublesaw was in Doo M 64.
Which is available as a mod now, by the way. Google for "Doom 64 Absolution".
Speakin' of music: which do you guys prefer, playing with the original music goin', putting on remixed/high-def versions of the songs, or putting on something else entirely?
I do all three, it just depends on my mood.
月を見るたび思い出せYeah, i tend to listen to JAM Project or something else really hotblooded. It gets really meta when "Gates of hell" randomly shuffles on.
Although now that i think about it, the only other game series i tend to listen to different music on is Super Smash Bros.

Oh man, oh man.
I actually have kind of a history with this game, because when I was really young I was deathly afraid of it.
In my defense, I was like five or six at the time, and just seeing my dad get himself killed into bloody chunks was traumatizing to me.
But then I went back and actually played it and holy shit was it fun. So all's well that ends well, I guess?
Also, as for the soundtrack, I've thought about playing the game with some Lordi in the background, because seriously, how does this not sound like perfect Doom music?

READ THIS COMIC. | Read along as I play through my games collection!-*headbang*
I tend to prefer either the built-in WAD music or enhanced covers of it.
Meanwhile, I noticed that the Touhou topic is right above this one, and this has me thinking that I think we should take it easy:
That is the most adorable piece of mass slaughter ever.
Incidentally - am I the only person who signifigantly prefers Doom over Quake? Or is that heresy?
READ THIS COMIC. | Read along as I play through my games collection!Ahaha, I remember that.
NINJEDIT: Naah, I like Doom better than Quake, but I think I'm a heretic for preferring the original Quake to every one that came after it.

月を見るたび思い出せQuake is boring unless you're speedrunning. Quake II is better. (For one thing it has the BFG TEN Thousand.)
Also, I'm tempted to liveblog the Doo M comic.

Dick Gumshoe as the Doomguy is made of win and awesome.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation.Quake just feels too claustrophobic and grim for me, is the thing - you can kind of tell that Quake is a product of where it came from in that id basically just slapped it together in a couple of months when their old ideas weren't working out. Doom just feels like it's much more about the ass-kicking, to me.
READ THIS COMIC. | Read along as I play through my games collection!WHO'S A MAN AND A HALF?!
Exactly, Charles.
By the way, show of hands - who here has read Masters of Doom?
*raises hand*
READ THIS COMIC. | Read along as I play through my games collection!I haven't, but I have read all four books of the Doom novelization.
Only the first one is a must-read. The second was mediocre.
There are really only two books.
月を見るたび思い出せDEMON PENIS.
...why would you do that.
Seriously, Masters of Doom is a pretty damn good book. It's got some great insight into the making of some id Software games, especially Commander Keen, Quake and Daikatana.
READ THIS COMIC. | Read along as I play through my games collection!Because they were there, grog.
And like I said, the first one was good.
月を見るたび思い出せ...okay, what about the Doom movie, then?
READ THIS COMIC. | Read along as I play through my games collection! That was crap.
月を見るたび思い出せSo I heard.
That said, I kind of want to see it for myself, if only because I'm a completionistic bastard.
READ THIS COMIC. | Read along as I play through my games collection!Charlatan wanted me to post here, so.
I do play Doom from time to time. Nowadays I have sound, music, a mouse, and don't need to play with the smallest window surrounded by green brick. :p I used to play it in local multiplayer when I was young, the best part was in a map with double-lifts activated from both sides of a wall. I pulled down the lift at the same time as my friend, and we were equally surprised at coming face to face with one another at the top of the lift. We just stood there, while my BFG slowly charged up.
Doom 3 was so dark I literally couldn't see where I was going, and I couldn't tell most of the monsters apart from a distance since they were all grey. And about as numerous as Quake monsters.
Since I've never receieved feedback on them, what do you think of my old Doom 2 levels? :p They're not that good, but pretty tough on UV. The main problem tends to be finding the ammo before finding the monsters... I recommend Cyberpac and Citywars, the rest are pretty meh, except the sheer number of enemies on UV.

someday I want to make my own sprites for an arena like level. nothing says oh shit like 2 cyberdemons coming at you from opposite sides of a room
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.I was introduced to DooM through the 32X port. I had no idea that it was missing half the game.
32X port with it's farty music? What a terrible first experience of Doom.

That's the truth indeed. E 1 M 1 will forever be awesome.
