Some of my favorite anime!Joey moments are in the virtual world, especially when he saves Kaiba with a flying kick that sends Nezbitt/Tristan crashing through the wall, hugs Yugi when they reunite, and then saves Yugi in the duel with the Big Five after carrying him through the whole match.

"established early on that the Puzzle doesn't work with the Seal around, except when Yugi sacrifices himself to save Atem and it suddenly does."

Is more since both are yugi oricalcos just catch one soul.

Now Noah arc was intersting if a little bit weird in moment and Noah deck was broken as hell but it have some fairly intersting ideas like card masters and 3 vs 1 duel aganst Nesbit.

And I still like DOMA a lot since it finally remenber than Atem and Yugi are diferent chararter, that Atem have something of a darkers side, it make used of weevil and Rex and while is very overlydramatic and the plot kinda cheat to get where it wants at times(and of course, the huge level of bullshit of Dartz duel),

Now siegfried arc is.....bad, really bad.

It still had imho the dumbest moment of the entire series when Yami decided to use the seal of orichalcos in his duel when he had absolutely no reason to. I mean the Abridged series even justified this a little because Abridged Yami is the kind of person that might actually do such a thing... .

Yes he does. He was put in a situation where he should play it, or lose. Saying he should have just lost is ignoring his characterization - he's an incredibly prideful person, who nearly allowed Kaiba to kill himself to win a duel (even though that had stakes, they pointed out that he had other, easier options immediately after that).

I liked it, for building off Yami's flaws and actually having him lose for once.

edit: Make no mistake, using the Seal was a poor decision. But it's not an unbelievable one, and it builds upon his flaws. Separating Yami and Yugi was also a novel idea.

[up] As you said, his duel with Kaiba had actual stakes, whereas he had nothing to lose in this duel but his pride. Someone like Vegeta might have done something as stupid as this, but it doesn't match Yami's chracterization at all, unless the Japanese version is very different from the one I have seen.

As I also said, he had much better ways to deal with the Kaiba fight then allowing him to die. That's definitely worse than playing a risky card, especially since Yami believed the risk was on him alone.

And nothing to lose but his pride? That's the entire point. It's a flaw. It's not 'stupid' because he understood the risks entirely. He gambled his life (literally, his LIFE) to get ONE STAR CHIP from Weevil, just because Weevil insulted his pride.

edit: If you hadn't seen the Japanese characterization, that makes more sense. Since they cut the part where Yami is constantly staking his life or others on things he really doesn't need to.

I never saw the Japanese anime. A lot of that makes sooooooooo much more sense.

Also, pride does seem something like royalty tend to have in works. Even if Yami doesn't remember his past, it doesn't mean his personality entirely would change by default. His decisions do matter a lot more than some, and pride being his fatal flaw is a major part of his characterization. He likes the high stakes too, unlike Yugi, who wants to duel for fun as well.

Is one staking their lives when one is already dead?

He's more staking Yugi's life. Which, I guess makes sense for a Pharaoh

Well. I guess if Yugi does, Yami would just go back into the puzzle? That probably makes it worse.

It's elaborated on more in the manga that if Yugi dies Yami dies too, which is why Marik's death traps revolved around killing the body. If Pyramid of Light is any indication, if Yami died Yugi would, also. It's ambiguous whether it applies to the Bakuras, but it doesn't for Marik since Yami Marik's whole plan was to hijack the body and kill normal Marik.

He risked his/Yugi's life a ton early on, especially in the manga with the Shadow Games, and while it did happen in Duelist Kingdom some, it was more of a thing in the manga—when he duels Weevil in the manga he risks his life, but in both versions of the anime he risks his deck. (I have the Uncut DVDs with subs up to episode 9.) Afterward it was usually what his opponent did rather than Yami Yugi making a reckless wager that he'd win anyway (IE Panik, Arkana, Strings, Lumis and Umbra, Marik).

Generally speaking the subbed anime follows the Japanese manga except when it doesn't, like when things are toned down, shuffled around, or cut out. You also have to be careful of stuff Viz added to the manga—I saw a post about Yami Yugi using Mystic Box in a very grandiose way in the Viz manga compared to the subbed anime where he just described its effect, which was used to complain about his personality being watered-down, but the subs were what was said originally and the manga lines were what Viz added. Viz also added a line for fun that seemed to singlehandedly start a "Yugi has diabetes" theory. More on manga changes can be found here and here.

The "kill him" line would be there in lieu of Bakura/Yami Bakura's speaking patterns in Japanese. Since they can't bring them across, translating the line literally wouldn't make anything look suspicious to the audience. Something more subtle, like "crush him" could have worked.

The insulin line is... weird. I never saw that before.

Also didn't know that Yami didn't stake his life in the Japanese anime. That's pretty bizarre.

I liked the Grand Canyon line because of the absurdity of confusing a plot hole with the Grand Canyon. I agree it's pretty mean and a bit overdone, plus I actually loved this season as a child. However, that one line is hilarious so I'm glad it's there. [lol]

Atem using oricalchos was also the fact rapahel was luring him: taunting about his past, about who he is and the fact atem did have orichalchos stone who was tenting him over and over, it was not just pharoh being stupid but raphael playing mind games.

if anything, that was the perfect oportunity to acount who dick Abridged pharaoh is.

One of my favorite narmy YGO moments actually comes from the manga, where Kaiba accidentally hired Anzu for his Death-T game at the exact time Yugi showed up. Notably, the Toei adaptation removed that aspect completely.

I have saw some filler duels and so far some are better than others.

Siegfired vs Kaibe ABSOLUTLY ROCKS, it was cool as hell and I do think he really have a change against Kaiba.

Now Yugi against his brother....now, that was bad, like REALLY bad.
