First, it still takes a while to get to air combat altitude.

The Spitfire, for instance, reached speeds of 605 kph, so the time to intercept a plane and kill the crew would be rather significant.

This is this.

-necro-

With a timed fuse, he will have no chance. (speaking of missiles)

Why is this? What if he had some sort of magic which could move his arms extremely fast (ignore things like how regular arms would probably tear apart from the sheer action) or would that even be not good enough?

Also what if he had a mount(like horses, etc.) of sorts that is functionally like a quick super-tank(We're talking 1072km/h maximum here in speed and like double the M1 Abrams' durability, though it can only fight in close-range)? How much of an advantage would this give to his offensive force?(He only has one of them.) He doesn't have to control it either, since the thing itself is sapient and can fight separately.

If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.

What if he runs into "Mad Jack" Churchill.

^ He might stand a better chance than most infantry soldiers, assuming he gets a better sword that fits better into this sort of fictional world, but that is only if both the swordsman in the opening post and Jack is alone.

If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.
