Yeah usually editors can enforce change and mandates, but not with Togashi.
Mileena MadnessHe also is said to have a really good contract.
It's out Hisoka got trolled.
Mileena MadnessAt this point Chrollo is just showing off.
BTW Chrollo and Hisoka made it on a shounen sexy villain list
Mileena MadnessThe editors probably also remember what happened with the ending of Yu Yu Hakusho: Togashi rushed the ending because of issues with editors. They don't want him to Torch the Franchise and Run, so they give him wide breadth. He's also earned respect, not only by virtue of writing two blockbusters, but also on account of being the senpai of the third generation of mangaka.
So I have finally finished the Chimera Ant arc, I only have one episode left.
Overall, I understand why some people were displeased with it; it starts off extremely strong and captivating, and mostly stays engaging but it's hard to deny that it was definitely way too long. It actually feels more like 2 or 3 arcs, the initial NGL invasion being the first and then the takeover of Gorteau and the castle raid being another one. There were also some questionable story developments, like Gon getting a super death mode out of nowhere and completely eviscerating Pitou. I actually enjoy the idea behind it, and the scene itself had brilliant animation and was accompanied by awesome music, so it wasn't completely terrible, but it still pretty much came out of nowhere.
But then you have to factor in the highs. Shoot awakening his resolve and putting on a pretty impressive show against Youpi even if he wasn't able to do much to him, Youpi's development where he spares Knuckle and Morel, Gon becoming darker and darker and increasingly ruthless, Netero's fight against Meruem, the Miniature Rose in its entirety, Palm telling Pouf to fuck off and asserting her humanity, Meruem's last moments with Komugi, Ikalgo and Welfin being characters I had no expectations towards who surprised me with their development, etc. There are just so many memorable parts and so many interesting ideas that on the whole I have to say that I highly enjoyed it despite the arc dragging in the latter half and would consider it one of the best arcs of any shounen ever.
Also, I have to say that the Madhouse adaptation is probably the best long-form shounen anime ever and they deserve serious props for it because it's one of the best adaptations of any manga I've ever seen. The animation is extremely consistent, there's no bullshit low-quality anime-original filler content, there isn't a bunch of still frames and excessive flashbacks of previous episodes to pad episodes (most of the time), it has an extremely hype and amazing soundtrack, it creates a sense of grounding and atmosphere not present in the manga (mostly because Togashi barely draws the backgrounds lol, understandable since he's doing it all himself), etc.
Definitely my favorite shounen series along with FMA B.
What one has to be aware of to understand Chimera ant arc's reception is that for the manga readers, it lasted like ten years, at least. And stuff happened like the four chapter fight between Ikalgo and Werefin being the only content we got for two years.
And Togashi's artwork was increasingly just rough sketches when the chapters first came out. It was always improved on greatly in the volumes- which is how the vast majority of Japanese fans read it- but Western fans generally don't see those versions unless they make a point of seeking them out.
Out on MS
Looks like Hisoka needs a hand.
You've got to hand it Hisoka.
Mileena MadnessIs this the end for Hisoka? But seriously, this was a pretty great fight! I was suprised by just how in control Chrollo was of the entire fight. I suppose that is what you get when you give a guy that can steal and combine powers prep time though.
You mean is this the end for Chrollo :P
What's this about a Hisoka spin-off?

Mileena MadnessTokyo Ghoul 's author, Ishida Sui tweeted on April 1st that he was working on a prequel starring Hisoka. Today it was announced that this wasn't an April Fools joke and they published a joint interview.
Umm, wow. Knowing Ishida it's probably going to be dark as balls. And pretty damn homoerotic (not that that's anything new for Hx H).
Ishida is pretty much the Next Togashi when it comes to Ho Yay, anyway.
This also possibly indicates that Hisoka's fate is sealed....

Watch SymphogearI loved that Hisoka pic he did on twitter awhile ago.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Hisoka won't solo?
Mileena MadnessAll the Hisoka art he did was pretty flames
It's kind of a cool thought that Hx H is old enough to have inspired newer generation of mangaka like Ishida
Just read it got bad Chimera Ant arc flashbacks....
Mileena MadnessJust browsing it, the art is really sketchy/loose but much more aesthetically pleasing than Togashi's worst during serialization. EDIT: Oh it's just a storyboard lol, I don't think it's finished yet.
ALSO in case anyone wants to read the joint interview with Ishida it's been translated here:

Secret Signature
Hunter x Hunter only started a year earlier than Naruto, so it's not like it's from a totally different generation than modern shounen. Not to mention that the Chimera Ant arc started quite a bit later. I'd imagine it's mostly due to Togashi's clout: he's the manga superstar who can do no wrong after two megahits like YYH and HXH in a row, so editors are more likely to defer to him.
