Togashi is set for life so he does not have to continue HXH :(
Mileena MadnessI also recall hes married to the creator of Sailor Moon so.... damn a power couple right there who are most definitely set for life.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I believe she helps him with redrawing the chapters for the volumes since they look way better than when he initially does them.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. The mega-success of Hx H's new releases on the blue moons when it does have new releases makes me wonder: Are the new chapters actually considered that good by the fanbase? Or does he just have everyone by the collective gonads?
Because I am caught up, and I'm leaning towards the latter.
Both I would say.
Pretty much a mix of both.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.I'll admit, I'm a little surprised by that. I mean, the new chapters aren't bad at all, but it's not A++ mega-stuff, partially because it's all set-up for an arc that, at this rate, will most likely be left incomplete due to retirement or legitimate health concerns (assuming his current claims are insincere, of course).
And in regards to art, I've been reading through Yu Yu Hakusho, and while Hx H's art suffers from literally being chicken-scratches YYH's is fairly poor as well.
eh, it's more that it's inconsistent. when togashi's art is good, it's pretty good, but there's been chapters that absolutely should never have been in Jump.
people compare him to miura, which is silly for various reasons, not the least of which is when he releases chapters, they're all up to his high quality art standard.
I assume Hunter X Hunter is basically what One Piece would be if Oda was frequently on hiatus.
There aren't a lot of things in that series I'd actually call Grade A+ material but that doesn't stop the majority of people, especially in Japan, where let's be honest, it really matters, from vehemently disagreeing with me.
As for me, I only read the first couple of chapters but nothing really pulled me in. I'm thinking about giving it another shot but if I do, I expect my opinion of it will be the same as with One Piece. That is "A good series in general but I can not for the life of me understand why this is put on such a pedestal."

the 2011 anime was a very consistent, high-quality adaptation, so that probably helped a lot.
i personally really enjoy it because of its subversion and Deconstruction of shounen conventions. it's kind of hard to predict what will or won't happen because togashi doesn't conform to traditional expectations.
but if one doesn't read far enough you won't really get to see that.
The art gets cleaned up in the volumes- which is the only place where the vast majority of non-pirate HXH fans see it. Which doesn't really excuse it, but does kind of explain it- the magazine releases are more akin to first draft or rough version.
I enjoy for it's beautifully constructed character arcs (mostly Kurapika's in Yorkshin and Meruem's) and because of how Nen is the most complex and elaborate superpower system I've ever seen, yet Togashi still manages to mass produce creative abilities without ever breaking his overthought rule system.
Eh, it's not that complicated, and ultimately it just does what the plot needs it to, but he's pretty good at setting up rules and letting in a logical yet tense fashion based on what we already know.
Anyway, Hunter x Hunter is pretty good. The opinion of "I haven't read it, but I'm sure it's not all that great" strikes me as pretty meaningless. Like, why even come into this thread? That said, if that was a roundabout way of asking if it gets better later, then the answer is yes.

Because I've been thinking of giving it a try and from what I've heard about it and what (admittedly little) I've read about it, I thought I'd express it. That and my post was actually related to the conversation so it's not like I just randomly said I hate it.
And I didn't say it wouldn't be good, I said by the end it probably wouldn't live up to the hype.

the consensus is that the series doesn't quite come into its own until the yorkshin arc which is a ways in. the chimera ant arc which follows is popular but kind of controversial; i haven't finished it yet because i've been busy but i found what i watched extremely engrossing in a way few anime are. i'm kind of surprised jump let togashi get away with it, since it feels more like a gritty seinen manga.
speaking of which:
I do rather enjoy the series' characters too. My personal favorite is probably Killua.
I've only just really seen Meruem but he's quickly made a pretty big impression. I've actually seen a few people rank him as one of their favorite shounen villains so I'm eager to see more of him.

Now see part of me feels bad bumping this thread because I know someone is going to see it in their watchlist and have hopes of signs of life from Togashi, but is anyone else looking forward to the dub this year?
I don't expect it to surpass the perfect voice casting the JP version had and Viz's dubs have been hit and miss for me but it'd be great to finally hear the series in English.
If nothing else, be sure to watch The Tatami Galaxy before you die. There's going to be a dub? That's complete news to me.
There will indeed be a dub. Can't wait.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Inb4 Christina Vee or Matthew Mercer get a role. :V
Mileena Madnesshttp://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2015-10-09/viz-media-adds-2011-hunter-x-hunter-anime/.93993
As long as they fit I don't mind, Matt Mercer sounds pretty great as Law in One Piece.
Actually now that you mention it I could see Vee as Neon or something.
If nothing else, be sure to watch The Tatami Galaxy before you die.For 10 chapters, maybe.
Well I am glad it's coming back for however short it will be.
Technically it doesn't cost them anything, since I assume they're not paying him anything when he's on hiatus and they fill up his slot with something else when he's no around. And because what he does write is consistently best-selling, it's a win-win situation for both parties.
