There's another pirate crew that consists only of women, for another example.

A Centaur manga called JINBA (人馬) also has an AI Translation and someone on Twitter went over the details of how its translation complete ass in December as well(don’t remember the account).

The craziest thing is that apparently publishers argument is that the staff saw a few English transalations of their mangas and were horrified how horrible they were. So they apparently think that proofread AI translation will be better (mind you, I saw a lot of really bad fansub, but I still think AI will do worse even with some proofreading).

How can they even be sure how accurate the machine translation is if they haven't translated themselves? They can fix shitty grammar, but there's no guarantee what the machine translation spits out is even right.

Yep, AI often chooses the most popular translations, forexample, not the one that should be actually used in specific case (probably not as bad for Japanese, but if you try translating from something like Spanish or Chinese it is a mess due to dialects and readings).

Also, the main problem normally is not a bad grammar, but stile. I saw ctual people translating phrases the way you would never here live people saying them. AI on the other hand will use the most cliche options probably (as someone who dropped a few series explicitely because they read like translated manual or hammy cliche pulp, despite the original having decent writing, I hate this the most).

I really like the "modern style" of english dubbing, where less focus is given to getting the english dialog as close to the Japanese wording as possible (while still keeping the characters and story intact, of course) in favor of allowing for more fluidity and english-specific wordplay.

I think the backlash to poor dubbing (4kids springs to mind) means there's been a greater push for more accurate translations

TIL a very obscure Wedding Peach spinoff manga by Fuji Midori included a Chibi-Usa type character named Angel Violet.

My 14-year-old self's Sailor Earth has been vindicated. XD

Shonen Jump just put up a one shot by Ichiro Oda called Monsters.

The main characters has a Samurai aesthetic to him. Seems like a combination of Luffy (in appearance mostly) and Zoro (only with just one sword).

It's an old one-shot from before he worked on One Piece, isn't it?

Oh. I had no idea. It's up now on the site, so I assumed it was new.

Yeah, it's an old oneshot. There's a character in One Piece based on Ryuma.

He's not just based on him, he's the same character. Oda confirmed it himself on an SBS.

Oh shit.

....is Monsters a Stealth Prequel to One Piece?

The end credits feature a recreation of the scene of Ryuma passing on Shusui to Zoro at Thriller Bark. I haven't seen the full special for myself yet, but apparently Zoro is also its narrator. So yes, it is. Its not clear how much of these elements had to get okay'd by Oda, but if they did, it is officially Canon Welding Monsters to One Piece, whereas previously Ryuma was just kind of a broad strokes reference to his earlier work.
