Chapter 599 has come out as well. We get a flashback of Nobunobu volunteering to negotiate with the liberation army, and beginning his path to redemption. Thankfully, none of them are going to forgive him to what he's done, but they are willing to let him negotiate. The rest of Edo begin preparations for the battles ahead, and Zenzo is mentioned as missing.

The Love Potion arc ovastill seems to not be subbed, but I did manage to find an elusive raw of it so I can watch that until then.

So Gintama has reached 600 chapters and how does Sorachi celebrates it? Make it mostly about needing to go number two. lol You got to feel for Nobunobu for having to hold it in when he's denied bathroom privileges because Earth was on the line. Only Gintama can pull this stuff out.

I honestly don't feel that excited for Gintama Shinsaku. The reason for it is because I don't love Gintama as much as I used to (I still like it, though). Thus, I won't immediately watch it when it airs. sad

Even though the series is already going into its finale with the manga in its final arc. So of course after the reading the manga, I can tell you that it will be one hell of a bumpy ride.

Speaking of the manga with its recent chapter, who didn't see one of the Yagyuu Four Nishiki's death coming? Bad feeling that many of the named characters won't come out alive after the war.

[up]Well Nishino isn't dead, but even so I expect most of the major characters to walk out alive. Would be pleasantly surprised if we saw some deaths however.

As for the new Gintama anime, I am disappointed that they are once again skipping animating the arcs they skipped last time. At least the Love Potion arc got the OVAs.

[up]Yeah but then again, it's hard to adapt the rest of the arcs because following Shogun Assassination Arc, it is the point of no return for the Gintama series especially after the Farewell Shinsengumi Arc.

#184: Jan 8th 2017 at 4:42:04 PM

[up]Which is why the best option would have been before the point of no return, but they just had to hurry to the serious stuff. But if any anime could find a way to show those skipped arcs, it would be Gintama. Just have a segment at the beginning of one of the episodes where they talk about the fact they were just in the middle of some serious stuff, and then when the arcs are done, return to the serious arcs.

In any case, the Gintama anime has made its return with episode 317, first episode of the Rakuyo arc.

Episode 318 was really great. lol Epic and funny moments there especially with Nobunobu being humiliated and punched again.

Apparently, it looks like that this season will only have 12/13 episodes judging from DVD releases of it so it's only for the Battle on Rakuyo Arc.

[up]I have heard of that. It could be only for the first cour (or whatever the word was) though. I guess we will see. If they immediately start adapting the final arc they're gonna catch up too fast, so I hope they are going to either take a break or animate the skipped arcs as padding. The latter may be wishful thinking on my part. tongue

On the manga side of things, chapter 620 has just been scanlated. Tsukuyo has shown up to join the fight against Ougai.

Ougai is seemingly defeated with a barrage of kunai, with one bashed into his forehead by Gintoki. Then Tsukuyo has a flashback about her going to join the fight with the Hyakka and then talks with Kyubei about womanhood and being near the ones they love. Only to get interrupted by Ougai getting back up and throwing his giant club at Kyubei, knocking them out of the fight for now. The Shinra also show up having captured Tae and the other girls that were throwing logs, demanding that the one who disabled their technology show up. And then Otose shows up to point out Gengai did it.

So Crunchyroll will be rolling at the Gintama dub soon. Interesting enough, they're starting with Gintama°.

The voice cast is all Canadian and alums of DBZ Ocean Dub/Death Note/Black Lagoon.

Yeah that dub kinda blindsided me when I heard about it. I'd heard they were making it, but I had not heard when they would release it, so it took me completely by surprise. Hear it's good, but I've only watched a little bit of it. Seems decent.

As for the subbed anime, episode 321 will be out later today. Episode 320 last week had Katsura fight and defeat Shoukaku of the Harusame in a brutal fight. The time is now for the Kaientai versus Hankei.

Scanlation of chapter 622 just came out yesterday as well. Jirocho tears through some of the Shinra before talking with the Yorozuya. He appears to have become a doting and overprotective father towards Pirako. Though Shinpachi made a rather awful incest joke... Anyway, after Jirocho reminisces about Tatsugoro, they return to fighting the Shinra.

Chapter 622 scanlation came out yesterday. The fight continues against the Shinra and we get a flashback of Jirocho's, Otose's and Tatsugoro's past. We see how Jirocho and Tatsugoro first meet, and we also get to see a fist-fight where either of them insists that the other is more worthy of Otose. The battle against the Shinra eventually moves in-doors and when it looks like the Shinra have surrounded them from two sides, the Shinra on one side reveal themselves to be disguised allies, including Katsuo.

Episode 322 also just landed, featuring Gintoki's fight with Batou. Also heavily features his self-proclaimed student Pakuyasa, who gets a hilarious segment after the credits. We also have the Joui reunion happen at the end of this episode.

According to this post, the Gintama anime is going to get a new OP and ED in April, which means the anime is going to continue beyond the Rakuyo arc.

Personally, I hope they don't continue immediately with the arc after Rakuyo, the Silver Soul arc. The arc doesn't appear anywhere close to ending and I fear they will catch up quickly if they continue with that arc. Instead I am hoping this means they will adapt the arcs that they skipped in the previous season. Could serve as good padding.

In the meantime since the last post, manga chapters 623, 624 and 625 landed, as did anime episodes 323 and 324.

[up]I've seen the supposed leaked TOC, and it may apparently just be saying that it's the climax of the final arc. But if it really is ending in 2 chapters, I feel it would be too soon, there is still a bunch of stuff to be wrapped up in the manga.

Apparently now yeah like you said, it's apparently just the "climax" instead of final chapter.

In the meantime, the anime is adapting the Silver Soul Arc at last and in the manga on Chapter 668... Utsuro is defeated but Colony Drop still happens?! What happens next issue is going to be something!

Chapter 669 came out on saturday, and it is indeed not the final chapter yet. We are still probably a few chapters off from the ending. Hata's ship manages to stop the Amenotori from crashing into Earth, so everybody has survived, though we still don't know if Yamazaki and Sadaharu have survived. Takasugi also seems to have found the corpses of the Tendoshu. The chapter also has a sudden timeskip of 2 years, focusing on Shinpachi. Apparently the Yorozuya split up for some reason, but I am sensing a troll.

Episode 346 came out in the anime, featuring more silliness from the Shinsengumi, as well as Sacchan and Zenzo joining the fun. With the Altana Liberation Army still holding a technological advantage, Gengai uses a giant cannon powered by Tama and Kintoki in order to disable them, evening the odds. Plus said cannon is the Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Gengai Cannon.

So, Gintama Chapter 670 is out and man the series in the climax and the readers are trolled by Sorachi. The Yorozuya has disbanded as they go on doing their own things Madao has bloomed but ends up taking credit for saving the Earth and still hasn't gone back to his old wife, Otae has gotten motherly with the Dead Mom hairstyle, Kondo has been practicing as a House Husband for his wife and child while feeding Otae so much, Otose is still around and Catherine aged far more than two years, and it turns out we saw wedding photos of Kondo and the fellow female gorilla... who is an actual gorilla and raised a baby gorilla for it is a political marriage. The other gorilla actually got fat from Kondo's food and then suddenly, a little girl finds Shinpachi and asks openly if he is her dad.

So, Gintama is trolling anime/manga that ended in Distant Finale or "Final Chapter Mating Season". That should be a trope.

I can't tell whether this timeskip is for real or something temporarily, like the previous timeskip arc.

I don't think it's going to be another fake timeskip, especially with the more serious flashbacks. I can see Kondo's marriage get reversed though. And maybe some of the other trolls to come. I am both really looking forward to seeing the rest of the cast, but also afraid of what trolls he is going to pull with them.

Definitely not a fake timeskip and it's not an epilogue either, after chapter 672 and 673 its clear we're heading for a whole new arc.

So following the recent chapters coming out, let's summarize.

671: Tamako who was the girl in the last chapter was revealed to be made as Tama's eyes as Tama hasn't woke up due to how she was built differently from Gengai's robots. The Yorozuya has temporarily disbanded as Gintoki and Kagura travel elsewhere to find their own purpose again while Shinpachi runs it by himself. In the meantime, the police mistaken Shinpachi for a pedo as he was with Tamako and the new police director is Nobume who is the first female one while Soyo remains Princess. So they use their power to lift up the low status of women of Edo, of course while punishing Shin at his expense. So Nobume is still around to protect Soyo from those who still remain in the Bakufu. Matsudaira is also around and reveals what happened with the Shinsengumi: Kondo's resigned and married a gorilla as a political marriage which was actually a punishment, Hijikata's demoted and went somewhere, Shimaru's resigned, and Okita's committed seppuku?! Then comes the first Prime Minister of Edo, Donald Zurump! "It's not Zurump, it's KATSURAAAA!" Huh, just like his real-life counterpart.

672: Katsura who is laying out his vision for Edo and the country, ends up dealing with terrorists attacking him much to their failure thanks to Elizabeth. So it turns out Matsudaira was the one who was arranging attacks to take out Katsura even after promising to help create a new government. Shinpachi calls Tatsuma about coming back to Edo to deal with another development of chaos happening and as it turns out... he invested in cryptocurrency and went bankrupt! So Mutsu is there to help Shinpachi... who revealed to be the one that kicked Tatsuma out and she went back into the black market business to repay the losses following the war. Then Takasugi had disappeared following the end when he actually walked despite the near fatal injuries he suffered from and the last time we saw him... was entering the room where the Tendoshuu were kept in. So Mutsu delivered someone that Shinpachi might be familiar with and burst out of the chamber... speaking in a familiar tone of a certain heroine. Then meanwhile, Gintoki has come back to his childhood please... where Takasugi was also visiting which looks to be Oboro's grave.

673: Takasugi made the grave for Oboro out of the promise he made after defeating him. So while both wondered their purpose on the Earth still, they end up fighting again like old times and while it end in a draw... Takasugi's wound has healed! Before Gintoki can wonder what happened, the police arrived and arrest Gintoki while Takasugi escaped. The police was revealed to be lead by Hijikata who reassigned himself in the rural country. As they explained what happened two years ago, it turns out Takasugi didn't just disappeared from the ship...also the Tendoshu! Takasugi was the one who took the immortal blood to heal himself and as a result, terrorism became frequent where nations have nationalized their Altana. Rumor is the Tendoshu have returned and Takasugi is the center of it all.

So, the story is still not over!
