I'm glad people are finally catching up with Karen's quote being directed at Silver and not the player.

what? Silver never meet Karen so why did you think that?

I thought it was implied Karen beat him so Silver was seething at you in the entrance of the League.

Silver never fought the elite 4 outside of Lance after the lake of rage but before the radio tower takeover and got nice slice of humble pie out of it.

I don't think he still learned it since he still has Golbat in VR.

yeah Silver is one of the weakest rivals in the series, it's only untill you rematch him at the league that he has a fully evolved team by gen 2 standards as not even the remakes give him the new evos of Sneasel and Magneton, also what is VR?

All this Silver talk gives me a question: what was the the worst rival to you in pokemon? Like from how they fight or their character being bad in your eyes.

As for myself I view Hop as the worst rival as he fights you far to much and so early on with no breathing room, even then he comes into scenes all the time in the game only to repeat on how his brother is the undefeated champion and how he's going to become the next champion even in his in-a-funk arc thus becoming a microcosm of sword and shields problems in writing.

The worst rival in my mind is a three-way tie between the three non-PC rivals from X and Y. There are barely three personality traits between the three of them and they have no arcs to speak of unlike literally every other rival aside from Marnie, who at least has a funny gimmick surrounding her.

Shauna wasn't that bad, but the other two managed to have less character than most of the one-off trainers.

Brendan/May, because they just disappear completely 2/3 of the way through the game as an opponent, and never even fully evolve their starter. Wally pretty much replaces them for Victory Road as the 'final' rival fight... and Wally himself only has one hilariously underwhelming fight at Mauville. But at least he had some sort of goal in mind, Brendan/May just sort of exist.

it comes to a point in the game where Trevor talks to to an NPC and the dialogue of the NPC is written in a more complex manner while Trevor's is written with nicktoons jr mind set with how simplistic he speaks about things just makes the the conversation look really jaring.

at lest the remakes fix it some what.

I didn't care much for Bianca as a rival, but I really liked her as the prof's assistant so I guess it worked out ok. My favorite rival is Barry though by a large margin.

fun fact Bianca is actually better then Cheren when it comes to their teams composition despite her being not into battles unlike Cheren.

I don't consider Wally a rival just like I don't consider N or Gladion rivals. As far as I'm concerned Brendan/May, Cheren and Bianca, and Hau are the only rivals in their respective games.

Discarding Hugh because I never finished his game, Avery and Kieren because I never played their DLC (But giving Nemona a pass because I have watched LPs of SV), and Trace because I never played his game, worst rival gotta be the XY trio. I like them as characters (Though moreso Shauna than the others.) but they barely act as actual rivals. Hate Brendan and May all you want, they actually did act as rivals. If we're not counting the Kalos gang (Sans the opposite gender player character who is 100% a rival no matter what.) then I don't really have an answer because they're all pretty good.

Best rival is either Klara because, well, look at her design. That and her personality combined makes her one of the best characters in the series and instantly makes her the best rival in terms of characterization. If we discount her for not being the main rival then it's gotta be either Hop for having the best written of the rival to professor character arcs, Marnie for being the best designed rival, or Barry for jut being plain likable.

To be fair they kinda fixed NPC Brendan/May in ORAS.

Trevor and Tierno definitely suffer from Kalos trainers having the worst overall teams. Like Trevor IIRC was meant to be the one interested in completing the Pokedex. But the only time you fight him solo, he has three Pokemon. Like what happened to the all of the Pokemon you captured? Especially since N actually swapped out his Pokemon consistently.

I think Masters has tried to remedy Tierno by making his dancing actually have meaning, but Trevor still needs time.

Trevor had a backstory scene, right? I don't remember what it was, but I remember he had one.

Hypothetically, if they had been doing remakes of Black and White, do you think it would be difficult to balance making the game look modern while also keeping its "character" intact? Even though it was still on the original DS, Black and White has a lot of dynamic camera movement and zooms and angle choices. Something about all that combined with still using sprites makes it very charming, and I wonder how difficult it would be to keep that intact.

They could just go all in on full 3-d graphics, of course. I just wonder if it would feel right.

I felt that sticking with sprites was holding BW back ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I only cared about Tierno in the anime since they made his dancing thing much more meaningful there.

Does anyone know what game is the easiest for raising a Dratini? I have a strong desire to use the line, but I’m not sure where the best opportunity would be.
