River City Ransom/ Kunio Kun

I've lost track of which River City games I have and have not played.

Got Double Dragon Gaiden and can definitely recommend it but with two caveats.

One the game's roguelite nature means it feels the need to put its worst foot forward first. Second is the LOAD TIMES JESUS CHRIST WHY DOES A GAME WITH SNES-PS 1 STYLE RETRO GRAPHICS HAVE SUCH LONG LOAD TIMES AAAAAGH! THE WHOLE DAMN GAME PLAYS TOO SLOWLY AS IS!

It's fun learning the combo game though. Basic string into running attack into jump and ending on a special will annihilate any non-bosses. Marian's definitely the beginner-friendly character (Having a rocket launcher in a Beat 'em Up will do that) but there are definitely situations where she will get obliterated too.

Linda and Abobo where the first characters I unlocked (Before meeting them as midbosses even) after beating the game on my first run (Humble brag) and I definitely like them both a lot. Linda's just insanely fun to play with her moveset.

I... Do not remember. The two franchises are pretty damn intertwined at this point though.

Funny how both sides made Marian a playable character but made her fulfill very different archetypes.

On the second point: seems nobody but Nintendo bothers to optimise their software these days.

But optimizing means a smaller file size. We can't have that or else people will think the $60-70 price point is too much.

Kim Justice takes a look at all the Kunio sports games, a bit more interesting than you'd think. They also did a good retrospective on Renegade and its European sequels.

River City Girls is now available on both Android and IoS. But you can only play them if you have a Crunchyroll Premium subscription.

I have had to wait WAY TOO LONG to play this game ya'll I'm gonna go have some goddamn FUN.

Nice. Having to wait longer to play the game is an unfortunate effect of buying their special editions, but Wayforward and Limited Run Games always put out GREAT ones.

It would be kind of nice if for those who purchase the physical editions, they'd email a download code for the digital version in the meantime. But I suppose then you'd run into the problem of people giving or even selling those codes away, so I can understand why not.

I wish more would do what Nintendo did with Xenoblade 3 and ship the game and goods separately, but with shipping rates (especially international rates) getting more and more ridiculous I understand why they don't.

We're getting DLC for River City Girls 2!
