Oh yeah, KOF 14! Definitely get that too.

And while we're on that topic, the neogeo classics too.

IIRC, Samurai Shodown 4, KOF 98 and Garou MOTW are out already.

So in Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time, there's an option to customize your weapons (Or at least three of them), from the shot type, to the size of blast range, to even recoloring your guns.

Is there a game with a similar feature? I know it's kind of odd that I would find a game just for something extraneous, but honestly, I like that sort of customization in video games.

@2102 If you own a 3ds you can try mighty gunvolt burst. It allows you to customize nearly everything about your weapon and features it as a main mechanic.

Hey everyone. I'm thinking of buying a Wii U, but while I'm tempted, I want to make sure there's enough games I want to justify the purchase. My two favorite genres are RPG's and platformers, though I also have a soft spot for fighting games. Anything fit the bill?

Here's what I'm interested in so far:

  1. Super Mario Oddysey
  2. Super Mario 3D Land
  3. New Super Mario Brothers U
  4. Super Mario Maker
  5. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  6. Legend of Zelda: Windwaker HD
  7. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
  8. Super Smash Bros
  9. Yoshi's Wooly World
  10. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
  11. Xenoblade Chronicles X
  12. Xenoblade 2 (when it comes out of course)

Anything else I might like? Also, does the Wii U come with backward compatibility, or am I screwed on that front?

[up]The Wii U has backward compatibility with the Wii and Gamecube, I believe. You might be interested in Rayman Legends, Paper Mario: Color Splash, Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE, and the only official English release of Mother (Earthbound Beginnings). Also, Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade 2 are not on Wii U, they're Switch only.

[up][up]Oh. Sorry. I got the two mixed up. The Switch is what I want. Though I guess I'll have to ask if that's backward compatible too.

Nope the Switch is not backwards compatible to the WII U, some of the more successful Wii U titles got ported though. Unfortunately none from your list.

[up]...Ah. Well, that changes things. I wanted to get whatever was the latest and greatest Nintendo system out right now, but maybe it's best to hold off on that a bit. To be honest, the fact that the Wii U actually has backwards compatibility probably makes it a better deal by default. Nevermind that the only Switch exclusive I really want right now is Oddyesy.

I think what I might do is wait on the Switch for now and get the Wii U, then get the Switch later after I've saved up again. That's probably the best bang for my buck.

EDIT: Right. Just ordered a Wii U off Amazon with a copy of Super Mario Bros 3D World. Once I've got some more money saved up, I can buy a Switch, and then I'll be able to play everything from the Gamecube to now. (Seeing as the Wii U has backwards compatibility and all.)

Speaking of which, seeing as I'll also have access to the Wii and Gamecube's backlogs, I should probably start looking into that too. Let's see here...

  • Mario Galaxy
  • Mario Galaxy 2
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • Super Mario Bros Wii
  • Luigi's Mansion
  • Wario Land: Shake it
  • Wario World
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns
  • Tales of Symphonia (Already played it, but it's so good I might as well play it again)
  • Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door
  • Super Paper Mario
  • Xenoblade
  • Fire Emblem?

Anybody else got any ideas?

You need to homebrew your Wii U to play Gamecube games though. (I don't mean pirated ROM though—just to start up those Gamecube discs requires a homebrew app.)

Aside from the Wii U's Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, Fire Emblem series has a Gamecube game: Path of Radiance and a Wii game: Radiant Dawn.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is the latest installment of the series on the Wii U.

So I'm close to being done with everything in Game Dev Tycoon, and had a lot more fun with it than I thought I would. I don't suppose anyone would know of other fun business sim games I could look into? ^_^

Mandatory "I'm not sure what to go on Steam Sale" question. I'd rather play an rpg, a story heavy one? I like J-RP Gs, too. Currently own Recettear, Chantelise, Tales of Zestiria, Fortune Summoners, Evoland 2, Undertale, Grandia II and Valkyria Chronicles. Thank you.

[up]Do you have any of the Trails games? Trails in the Sky or Trails of Cold Steel are both great picks, and probably have some of the best stories I've ever seen in a videogame. That said, they also take place in the same universe, so while you can probably just jump in at the first game of either subseries, you still might be missing a few things if you start with Cold Steel first. But either one's a great place to start.

[up]From what I've heard... eh, it's okay. Not great or anything, but not terrible. The biggest problem with it is the whole traitor gimmick. On paper, it sounds like a really neat idea, but then you realize that when they say anyone could be the traitor, they mean anyone. Every single playthrough, the traitor's identities are chosen at random, and while each of the characters have distinct personalities, their reasons for turning traitor are all more or less the same and virtually interchangeable. Which is a shame, because it looks like the biggest thing it's got going for it. Everything else looks decent enough, but there are still better things you could be doing.

Someone suggested Trillion, which is very cheap. Strategy and puzzle games make me nervous so I'm not sure.

[up]From what I've heard, the story seems pretty decent, but the gameplay's so-so at best. Then again, if it's really that cheap, maybe it's still worth a purchase.

There's also The Gate of Firmament. I actually own this one, though I haven't gotten around to playing it. It's one of the latest instalments in a long-running Chinese RPG series that's been going on since the early 90's, and it's their answer to Final Fantasy. The difference is that rather than taking place in Constructed Worlds, this series takes place in ancient China and uses Chinese Mythology as its' base, and most of the games take place in the same universe even if they don't always have much to do with each other. As for Gate, it's supposed to be very story-driven with cinematic cut-scenes up the whazoo and a well done and engaging plot. And the gameplay seems fun too. If you're a mythology buff or just like ancient China, that one might be your thing.

You should try Pyre, it's an RPG (lots of reading required, unlike Bastion and Transistor where you just listen to the commentator for story tidbits) where the battles are like a really weird and fun sport.

If you somehow haven't played any of the Final Fantasy series, you can try 7,8 or 9. Lost Sphear and I Am Setsuna are newer JRPG titles published by Square, too.

I've got a weird craving for a game that let me play the monk archetype: martial-art based combat with "energy" techniques, where the character's main weapon is his fists and kicks.

Anyone can think of such a game on PC or PS 4? The Souls series and Nier: Automata can sort of have it, but I want something that is focused on martial art.
