Well, it looks like it's on sale in Steam right now, and there is a slight discount and a few other bonuses for those who prepurchase it.

As a fan of the games (well, Armageddon is the best one IMHO), I'm looking into this.

I can't find Armageddon anywhere legitimately, except to pay some ridiculous amount of money to some overseas store. I swear I used to have a copy but it's long since been lost in moves, yard sales, what have you. I don't want to pirate it, I want a legit copy.

I don't think you'd want to play Armageddon on a modern PC, though. The hoops I had to go through to get it to run on my Windows 7 system were tedious, and it was still buggy as all hell.

I welcome a modern version simply because it's guaranteed to work on current systems.

I'll look at it, but my impression of the Worms series is that its gameplay kept getting simplified for accessibility as the series progressed.

Trying to get it to run properly on Vista was certainly an interesting experience. It seemed to play okay, apart from sometimes crashing (which it did even on older versions of Windows) but no matter what I did, I could never solve one particular display bug involving the color palette that made it almost painful to look at.

That's the biggest bug I had a problem with. The key to fixing it is to shut down explorer.exe when the game is running, and have to close down and restart that critical program every time I wanted to play was too much for me.

From what I remember of 360 W2: Armageddon, it's a buffalo that charges forward, and explodes every time it hits something, up to 6 hits. It's basically a multi-hit sheep that can't change direction.

@Bon Sequitur: Well, from what I see, the Concrete Donkey is returning for this game.

How is that? Granted I barely played Worms 1, but the base gameplay of all the 2d games from Worms 2 onwards was more or less unchanged, with the addition of new weapons... and of course you could always set up gamemodes that replicated earlier games anyway.

The concrete donkey is the lightside god and the buffalo is the darkside god (since thier patterns are designed to work against people playing either strategy), so one replacing the other doesn't seem too fair.

I haven't played a single Worms game aside from a bit of that one clone (Leroy X I think it was called).

Liero isn't exactly a Worms clone. Worms is turnbased, for one.

Yeah, Liero.

Is it just me or does Team17 only seem to pump out Worms and the occasional Alien Breed game now? They used to make quite a lot of games (most of which were mediocre, read: Project-X)

Well, it's preordered. Getting a new Worms release, especially in the 2D model, is almost a no-brainer for me.

The only thing I can see that god simplified was that you could customize every element of a weapon for a map, from how many bullets it fired a turn, fire rate, damage per shot, force imparted, spread, and so on. Also how much wind affects.

I can say i missed it at first, but they really improved the map customization and the editor, along with the AI and random map generator along with the ability to have the special rules for the game so it cancels each other out.

Glad to see that Worms is returning to 2d gaming, the 3d games weren't that good.

I've been playing a review copy the last few days.

Just so you know, yes, it rocks. Big time. Biggest, best Worms yet - and it's developed by Team17.

Well, first thoughts is that it takes a while to get going. Training is slow, and easy if you're familiar with the game. Unfortunatley you need to sit through it to get money. Haven't played online yet because I have no-one to play against.
