Sounds like a good time to get my crafters up to level 60.

Gotta say, I'm disappointed. I have a gardening crop going, so I'm gonna keep logging in to get that finished. But, if this isn't fixed soon, I may take my harvest and then turn my subscription off until a solution is made. I want to continue the story and get to stuff like Susanoo and Lakshmi.

So the devs figured out what is causing people who complete the first primal trial for Stormblood to be locked out from the game/ Apparently entering the duty while using an emote (they said /sit was likely the culprit but others could trigger it) before the emote finishes can trigger the bug. They are asking for anyone who was affected to post in the forums.

This gave me a horrifying thought:

What if you were banned from the forums like I was? Are you SOL then? Would Square's legendary bad customer support even help you in this situation? Square really needs to set up support in ways other than the official forums.

Also, the roadblock instances seem to be fixed now, and off to Kugane.

And one of the places there...Umineko Tea House?!?

Apparently the Gilgamesh server crashed early this morning, which allowed everyone else to squeeze in. Gilgamesh, your sacrifice will not be in vain!

Umineko means seagull, so I'm not surprised to see a teahouse with that name in a port town.

So I had gotten to the part where Y'shtola is wounded by Zenos. I was extremely surprised to see the NPC (not listing names to avoid spoilers) acknowledge that I was a healer and asked me to help her heal the person. Just to double check, I rewatched the scene on a different job and she asks me to just hold the person down instead.

Nice move, devs.

The Samurai shill is so strong with the quest line.

I like that the first duty is designed to give you time to acclimatize to the job actions. My roommate used a potion to jump a job to 60 so he could try it and only had a 29 Marauder as a base, and he figured out how to get his 3rd level Iaijutsu through just pressing buttons and a tiny bit of coaching from me.

Those are the only two options.

Based on running Pot D, the ratio of samurai to red mages seems to be about 1.5:1

Yeah, I want to run RDM into Stormblood, but the FATE grind is real and DPS queue pops are a myth. Particularly when this game is actually very light on things you can do solo while waiting for queues (because nobody wants to get 95% into a leve and then have to accept queue). And of course working on artifacts and leveling an alternate class are mutually exclusive when it comes to things like roulettes (though thank god for the Umbrite price nerf).

It's been fun.

Speaking of which, I've heard that as a DPS you should run PotD because the queues are shorter, but what should you be running to level a tank or healer? I would assume dungeons, but which dungeons specifically?

Your highest level one, and don't forget to run stuff like the Leveling Roulette for bonus XP.

Or just do the deep dungeon. It's good XP rates for any job role.

The reason people suggest Pot D for DPS is because there's no role requirement, giving them better queue times.

Tanks and healers have worse queue times than normal, but it's still good exp.

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.

I found a funny bug during a side quest. An NPC's name in the text box used my name for some reason.

Well, is it just "good" or is it better than dungeons? Because I'd prefer not to run it if it's not the best, since I find it somewhat tedious and repetitive. And if you happen to screw up and wipe, you don't get anything, unlike a normal dungeon.

I'd say roulette dungeons are better while you've got the Adventurer in Need bonus, but even when it says DPS are in need, you're still getting better queue times as utility classes.

I will say that deep dungeon at least scales the rewards well. That doesn't apply to the normal dungeons, so if they aren't in the later dungeons, kind of a waste for anything but the roulette.

That's a good idea. You can get matched with people for POTD, right? I may try running some floor 50+ as RDM when I get off work today.

No, what I'm saying is that the experience you get from low level dungeons isn't worth it.

But if you're running it as part of a Level Roulette, it gives bonus EXP that increases as the difference between your level and the dungeon level increases. Granted, you can only get that bonus once a day, and without said bonus dungeon EXP is only worthwhile if you're within a few levels of it, but still.

This may just be personal preference, but I just find grinding the Palace incredibly, mind-numbingly boring. Dungeons at least have a change of scenery every few levels, most have unique mechanics to pay attention to, and they actually teach you how to play your job to a far better degree than the Palace does.

But yes, if the goal is to level up as fast as possible, then the Palace is the place to be.

Yes, the bonus exp is worth it. But the dungeons themselves aren't good for experience if they aren't close to your classes actual level.

According to some wiki, the grinding process is as follows:

  1. [Leveling Roulette] (simultaneously completes weekly Dungeon Challenge Logs)
  2. [Trial Roulette]
  3. (If Tank/Heals) - [Main Scenario Roulette]
  4. (If under level 30) - [Guildhest Roulette] (simultaneously completes weekly Guildhest Challenge Logs)
  5. If you have rested EXP - queue for the highest level dungeon you can and do "full clears" (kill all the mobs).
  6. Otherwise do Palace of the Dead - specifically floors 1-10 or 51-60 if you want to maximize EXP per hour.
  7. Grind FATEs or complete Hunting Logs while waiting in a dungeon queue or if you do not have any rested EXP.
NOTES:
  • Doing dungeons that are the same level as your character are a good way to get Combo Kill bonus EXP. If you are the same level as a dungeon, consider queuing normally (non-roulette) until you are a higher level then the dungeon, and then doing the roulette - in order to maximize that bonus.
  • Due to the fact that the Hunting Log receives no benefit from the Armory bonus (+100% EXP) - it is no longer a strong source of EXP. You should however still complete it if you intend to get a relic weapon.

Levelling roulette gives a pretty nice bonus. I did it last night as a 66 WHM and got 1.8 million.

Also, dungeons can give twice as much XP as Palace does with fewer risks. I mean, if the dungeon fails before the last boss, you still get some XP from the trash. In Palace you risk losing all progress.

My advice is to find yourself a healer/tank, kidnap them, and force them to run dungeons with you, hahaha. I mean, that's what my FC did. For example, on Sunday I ran 16 dungeons to help my mates with their alts/main scenario dungeon, and only two of those were for me.

Just don't be a jerk. Like, everyone loves me when they need my fast queues but then they go all Mariah Carey on me when I'm the one who needs help.

Anyway, if you need help and are in Hyperion, send me a /tell and I'd be happy to help with your alts. Same with the Primal datacenter, we can just create a private PF group and go from there. Might not be the best healer but at least my queues are almost instant. :P
