Live letter has started. Very first thing was the Benchmark trailer, we'll be getting it "within the next day" (midnight Sunday JP time, whether that makes it 1 or 2 days depends on timezone). He said it was because he knew we'd be spending the entire PLL in the character creation instead of watching it, which tells me it'll probably have Hrothgals ready.

First order of business was showing off a practical demo of the new graphics overhaul, using one of the grassy fields in Elpis, and holy crap the difference is night and day superior. Flying mounts will also list and lean now instead of just kinda rotating when you turn, which looks much more alive.
spending more or less the first hour on this graphics overhaul, showing the current vs. 7.0 graphics for characters, gear and zones. It won't just be Dawntrail with the new environment details, they're going back and redoing the entire game (Tailfeather in the Dravanian Forelands and Lost City of Amdapor, and the Pixie town in Il Mheg have been shown so far). They also confirmed that gear from level 80 onward would get the graphics overhaul, with everything below being an ongoing project.
New anti-Aliasing options are incoming to smooth out the jaggedness on distant objects and the camera jittering effects. Shadow overhauls are coming, and NVidia DLSS options are incoming.
It's hard to do justice to it in text, but overall the game looks absolutely beautiful now and this graphics overhaul is so needed for the long-term health of the game.

New blacklist changes, making things a lot more refined. Bigger and easier to use, the ability to force people out of your homes and prevent them from entering while still keeping it open to others, and the biggest one is that blacklisting will now remove that character model from your game client as well as all characters on that account. Only exception being if you end up getting into instanced content with them for obvious reasons, but you will be unable to see their chat messages. The current blacklist system is effectively just becoming a mute list.

No real gameplay besides the benchmark announcement, but with the graphics overhaul and new options, it's maybe the most important that a benchmark has been yet to figure out your options.
As usual AMD owners get screwed, just FSR 1.0 which looks like ass... while it has also DLSS 2.0...

The Yokai Watch event is also coming back.
I first started the game when the original(?) crossover was active, but I never got anything from it and have an empty watch. The thing has been sitting in my saddlebag for years and I'm super pumped to finally fill it out.

Frankly, Nidhogg right now looks pathetic next to the other villains after him. They did have to retcon things to make Ultima and Lahabrea look more threatening gameplay wise.

My general assumption is that Dawntrail won't try to impress with world-ending catastrophies.
Instead, the Wo L will get bored and wander off, because hey, it's their vacation, ain't it? They're just fightin stuff for fun over there while the rest of the scions do politics.

Well, it's not strictly a vacation. We're being invited to Tural on behalf of Wuk Lamat, adoptive daughter of the Dawnservant, Gulool Ja Ja, in her bid to claim the throne before her warmongering brother does.
So chances are, WoL is getting embroiled in politics anyways even though they ostensibly have the option to walk away, since they're not one to let people suffer.

Yeah, even if Tural isn't in a doomsday scenario at the end, I'd expect that something would be sufficiently tough enough to challenge the WOL for a final boss battle since we'll reach even further beyond for lvl 100.

I suspect its going to be like ARR, a lot of setup of different things with a meh main plot.
Solution 9 I suspect is going to be setup as our jumping off point for multiple expansions.

I'm quite curious if that one contender for the throne will remain the main villain and get some kind of powerup or weapon like Gaius did back in ARR or if he gets upstaged by some major disaster he unleashes and then repents for being evil.
