Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

So this was a surprisingly tasteful video given the subject matter and where it was posted. I expected it to be full of racism, misogyny, etc. but that's relegated to the comment section. My main responses would be:
1. The video maker says Barret isn't a racist stereotype but a great and nuanced character. Barret is both a stereotype AND a great character. I don't know why this concept eludes so many people The amount of well-written fiction out there that nevertheless contains problematic elements is unfathomable.
2. I've never heard anyone say the crossdressing segment was "progressive." It's a pretty stock anime gag from what I've seen. But I agree with the video creator, omitting the hot tub scene should make everything else just fine.

Makes Sino Alice being brought over more likely, too.

I'm happy to see Jenova Absolute on there as it's a very underrated and awesome piece of music but Fang's Theme? She's the only XIII character with a theme I don't remember whatsoever.
Awww yes, The Oath is on there!
Oh goodie, Dalmasca Estersand! XII has been sorely underrepresented in Distant Worlds so far, until now it's just been Kiss Me Goodbye.

It's pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.
Always nice to see XIII songs that arent "Blinded by Light" get some love.
And while those XV songs are good, I would have prefered they did this one.

Is the original Somnus we heard in Versus XIII previews in XV???

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerWell, the instrumental is the main menu theme IIRC.
Its the background music for Insomnia.
That, plus a remixed version is the final boss theme
Also I just now realized the 15th anniversary for FFXI was two weeks ago.

Re: Distant Worlds
They've done Dalmasca Estersand a lot and Kiss Me Goodbye is on 3. I'd rather they do something new like Esper Battle + Esper.
Life is more fun with infinite MP.Time For A Rest. I love peaceful songs and I also adore how it was used in XII. First time you hear it in Tomb of Raithwal (I think) is perfect because it's essential to have that downtime and feel like you've accomplished something. (looking at you, XIII. You really fucked up here)
Point is, I'd love to hear it live.
In terms of peaceful songs XIII's second Sequel Lightning Returns I think beats the crap out of the rest of the series. Snow's Theme I think is my fav.

You know, me and a few others were talking on another forum a week or so ago about X-2's OST and someone said they preferred its version of the Besaid Theme. Not a rare opinion; the X-2 Besaid Theme is one of the highlights of the OST. I myself prefer X's version by a lot but that could be due to nostalgia. The song has a large place in my heart.
But now I think about it...every "area" song in X is like this. I never really noticed it before but from Besaid Island to to the damned Thunder Plains to Via Purifico prison to the INSIDE OF SIN has really chilled, subdued music.
It's weird. It's all good music of course but I wonder wy this is.
EDIT: forgot Gagazet and Zanarkand. They're a bit more...in-your-face. Sorry, I don't know technical stuff about music.
But even Zanarkand changes to the very understated song once you get to the Dome. That song also sucks compared to A Fleeting Dream.

I think that's probably because Hamauzu was the one who composed a lot of the area tracks. He tends to write very soothing area music like that.
How much of XV was in house and how much was outsourced?
Not much IIRC.
Before this they had studios like CC 2 make assets etc for FFVIIR while the team at SE oversaw it and put everything together. That doesn't seem to have worked out so now SE will do everything to speed things up while keeping to a high quality.

The wikipedia article on its development doesn't seem to mention anything about outsourcing that might have gone on.
Some stuff from SE's financial meeting earlier this month:
