TVTropes Pokémon League

Itching for battle? Want to see how your wacky no-direct-attack team works? Want to establish primacy as the Water-type Gym Leader of Troperville? Want to do battle with a team of 6 Tropius?

Here's where to do it! The TV Tropes Pokémon League will help you organize any matches, tournaments, or even Gym battles. I hope to keep this thread a fun and fast-paced hub of PVP Pokémon action.

First, here are a few links to Pokémon battle simulators:

• Shoddy Battle — the main place for 4th-gen battles.
• Netbattle — supports all generations, I think. But it doesn't work on Macs.
• Pokémon Online — supports 3rd and 4th generation.
• Porygon's Big Show — a relic of Pokémon history, it has done somewhat glitchy 1st-gen combat since 2000.

Second, a lot of you have speculated on which type Gym Leader you'd be. Would you be interested in a monotype tournament? Post which type you'd like to use and which gen you'd prefer and I'll get a small tournament running.

Here are all the players so far:

• A Crack in Time: Electric
• Color Printer: Flying
• Dr Pravd: Dark
• Enlong: Fighting
• Father Jazz: Ghost
• Fawriel: Water
• Longfellow: Poison (Shoddy nick: Longfellow)
• Ruki Motomiya: Grass (Shoddy nick: Pratty)
• Spain Sun: Normal (Shoddy nick: Trainer Sophie)
• Troper Roxas: Fire (Shoddy nick: Champion Roxas)

The rules:

• 4th-gen (?) battles on Shoddy unless y'all prefer playing on NB or your DS's.
• Everyone on your team must share a type. Secondary types are allowed.
• You may change your team from battle to battle.
• Ban-list: Smogon's Ubers unless there are objections. No evasion-spamming, no OHKO's. Species, sleep, and freeze clause.
• It'll be single-elim if eight or more people wanna play; otherwise round robin or something.

Oh, of course, this is a fine place to exchange friend codes to battle on the DS WiFi. I don't have a DS myself, but I'll be happy to edit in friend codes in this post for you who wish to have easy access to TV Tropes battling buddies.

Does it have to be monotype? I mean, since I'm picking Water, it doesn't really matter to me much... err, unless our Pokemon have to be single-type as well.

I wanna lay claim to Fightin', but I don't have my DS with me... for like a few months at the earliest.

Mono meaning all Pokémon share a type.

Enlong, you can use an online battle simulator if you don't have your DS / haven't yet raised your team.

So, we battle on Shoddy? I find it more convenient, and I haven't raised monotype teams (Except Normal, but I haven't even bothered to fight Bugsy yet...)

I, at least, have no other way of battling except on Shoddy.

If you didn't mind the fact I've...never really battled competitively before and I might be the kind of person you have to use SMALL WORDS with, I'd kind of be interested. Probably as Psychic D'oh, Dark then?

...sort of wish i could at least use my mustache team and fail, but...DREAMS CAN'T ALWAYS COME TRUE.

^Don't necessarily rule yourself out, I have no idea how this works so I might be unable to participate. And I'm thinking of doing either Ghost or Normal instead...

Just because we're doing it on a Gen 4 server doesn't mean we have to use Gen 4 Pokemon, right?

For that matter, is this an independent program or do you have to own the games, too?

EDIT: Shoddy is a free, online battling program, no game required.

4th Gen means it goes up to the 4th Gen, you don't NEED to use them.

Okay it's an emulator.

This is interesting, very interesting. I wonder if I can fit the program on a disc, since it's not likely that there's enough space on my hard drive.

I do warn, that I haven't battled competitively since the original Gold/Silver games, so please don't yell if I use a banned move or something, I'm not up-to-date on the PVP metagame.

It's not an emulator, just a battling program. The game isn't in there.

Also, going to post my three potential lineups when I think of them if no one minds.

Alright, checking this out and there's one thing I'm curious about. How are we going to make sure that no one makes their Pokemon insanely overpowered? Just a trust thing?

Also, I'm taking Grass.

One of the screenshots seems to imply you can set your Pokemon's stats.

I could simply be looking at it wrong, it's the last one.

I Vs are set to 31 for everyone unless they want a Hidden Power.

The other slots are E Vs, which are customizable, and have the set limit and bluh bluh. You can't cheat with them.

Nah, it's cool. I'm talking with like two other dudes and explaining Pokemon and I love talking about it, so feel free to ask more questions if you want.

Is there anything hugely important I should know about so I don't accidentally make an ass/idiot out of myself?

We can do it on the Smogon server (the one on the top).
