One of the most fascinating things is that because there was no ceremony in 1993, the movies from 1992 weren't recognized. While a joke video exists in which someone presents Favorite Movie to Schindler's List of all things (that would've been '94 though since it was a movie in '93), I think the likely nominees given history and what was successful at the time would've/could've been Batman Returns, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Wayne's World. I wanted to say Aladdin 1992 would be nominated, but animated movies weren't included in the category until 1995 though.

The movies that won in the years around 1993 were The Addams Family in 1992, Jurassic Park in 1994–so the other Spielberg movie from that year haha—and The Lion King 1994 in 1995. The Lion King 1994 was the first animated movie to win and others that won in the years following were The Rugrats Movie in 1999, Finding Nemo in 2004 and The Incredibles in 2005.

The Favorite Animated Movie category was introduced in 2006. It's theorized that the likely anger over The Incredibles beating Spider-Man 2 was reason for this.

First winner was technically in 1987 for The Big Ballot in which The Karate Kid Part II bested both Crocodile Dundee and Top Gun. After that, the first official KCAs in 1988 saw Beverly Hills Cop II beat both Adventures in Babysitting 1987 and La Bamba. And yeah, it's a little odd that an R-rated action movie won at a ceremony for kids certainly—and that it wasn't the only time either.

Heck, I think it wasn't the only time either since at the very least, Boyz in the Hood was nominated in 1992 and Speed in 1995.

I have not really thought about these awards in awhile. Brings back memories.

Also, another R-rated film to be nominated for Favorite Movie was House Party 1990 in 1991. The winner that year was Home Alone of course and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 was also nominated. Any other R-rated movies nominated were outside of the category.

With all the hate Ghostbusters: Answer the Call gets, it won in 2017. I personally never minded the movie myself.

Not one for double posts. That said, the ceremony's move to 7/13 rather than being in March or April means that I wonder if the range of movies and whatnot to consider expands as a result of that too.

Could see both Kung Fu Panda 4 and Frozen Empire each being in the running now when they probably would've been shut out otherwise. Dune: Part Two is probably gonna be seen as too mature for this and that's not surprising though.

I find it strange that Titanic won Favorite Movie in 1998, I say that because it also won the Oscar for Best Picture so it makes Titanic the only movie to win the Big Movie awards from the grown up and kids awards!

You probably won't see Oppenheimer winning Favorite Movie this summer. Haha. Probably gonna be Barbie though, so there you go. Not sure what else could get it.

Maybe Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes instead? Hunger Games was often a favorite at the KCAs.

Wonder what will win in Animated Movie since there's a few different ones it could be.

Frozen Empire's a possibility since Answer the Call won in 2017. Realizing I already said that though.
