Since there's not an already existing thread, I wanted to create one to be able to discuss the awards show as its been going on since 1992 and I've basically watched it every year since 2006 having first heard of it in 2004 (though I didn't see the Special shows they've done including the 2020 show they did because of COVID where they gave special awards that year instead). I usually follow the categories of Best Villain, Best Kiss and Best Hero specifically—especially the Best Villain one since I memorized all the winners. I always try to predict the Best Villain category every year specifically, though last year I had only two of my five predictions get nominated with the one I predicted as the winner not nominated (though of those two, I did predict the actual winner though).

Last year the two predicted who got nominated were Jamie Campbell Bower and Elizabeth Olsen (and the latter I predicted to win). The three I predicted that didn't get nominated were Hayden Christensen, Tony Dalton and—my predicted winner at the time—Tenoch Huerta. Usually I'm very biased towards the movie ones, but three of my predictions were TV ones though.

I'll start with my pretty solid picks for Best Villain nominees this year:

  • Viola Davis
  • Robert De Niro (didn't see that movie yet though actually, but Scorsese villain by that actor though is a strong pick)
  • Vincent D'Onofrio (that show's not out yet, but I'm tricky on TV ones this year and that's an iconic Marvel villain)
  • Chukwudi Iwuji
  • Matthew Lillard

Thoughts? I got wildcard picks too that I'll also share. When it comes to the Best Villain category, it seems that the Disney/MCU/Star Wars factor when it's present always decides it.

Anyone remember this moment?

With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptation

[up]Yep. Definitely remember that. While I definitely knew who Kristen Stewart was before Twilight, the rest of the world didn't seem to though.

I also began to think M3GAN would get nominated before that. I figured if Elizabeth Olsen didn't win, she would. Still gotta watch M3GAN, Cocaine Bear and Don't Worry Darling.

Also, ironic that the one work I didn't see yet for Best Hero (The Last of Us) is the one that ends up winning too.

These are a few wildcards right now in the upcoming Best Villain category too:

  • Jack Black
  • Robert Downey, Jr.
  • Melissa McCarthy
  • Jason Momoa
  • Reneé Rapp

Hoping Rachel Zegler gets nominated for Best Hero. Also, hoping her & Tom Blyth get a Best Kiss nomination too.

Also hoping Iman Vellani gets nominated for Best Hero for The Marvels not just because she's the best part of that movie, but since it'll mean all three of them have each gotten nominated at different times for playing their specific characters too. Part of me wonders why they didn't nominate her last year instead of Paul Rudd come to think of it…

Not one for double posts and most of the time avoid them best I can. I got an update to my predicted Best Villain list though with the nominations likely just around the corner (and from what I'm sensing/guessing, could be announced as early as tomorrow):

  • Austin Butler
  • Daniel Dae Kim (still gotta see the show, though I hear Fire Lord Ozai has a bigger role than before though)
  • Viola Davis
  • Chukwudi Iwuji
  • Matthew Lillard

There's a pretty good chance I think Austin gets the win now too. That's whether or not Chukwudi is nominated.

I think the most reasonable wildcards at this point are Robert De Niro (William King Hale definitely has presence and is definitely evil), Robert Downey Jr. and Reneé Rapp. While you gotta think about why Lewis Strauss is bad, why Regina George is a menace is pretty obvious though in both versions.

I see Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell probably taking Best Kiss for Anyone but You. If it's not both that and Best Duo, it's an either/or situation probably.

Could see Zendaya getting a Best Hero nom as Chani. With Paul being as morally shady as he is, Timothée Chalamet being nominated as him is probably a harder sell now.

Another strong possibility is Timotheé Chalamet Vs. Austin Butler gets Best Fight. Be shocked if they don't.

With Abigail coming out this weekend and the nominations still not announced, I wonder if it'll be a late entry dark horse. M3GAN and Cocaine Bear both came out in the early months of last year and got noms, so it's not unrealistic certainly.

Frozen Empire if it gets any noms, it won't be for much.

Barbie probably gets Best Movie. It's a major contender for it anyway.

Got a whole bunch of ideas for Best Kiss possibilities. Austin Butler & Stellan Skarsgård come to mind too. I'm pretty sure Sydney & Glen are gonna get it though.

I thought maybe for the kitchen kiss in Anyone but You, but now I'm thinking the climactic one instead.

Another Best Kiss possibility despite people not liking the movie: Jenna Ortega & Gideon Adlon.

Still got The Last of Us, M3GAN and Cocaine Bear to watch. Trying to get those in to watch last year's ceremony before this year's movies/TV in the Hero/Villain categories before this year's.
