For all those Franchise Zombie complaints, Super Sentai has been going on for 48 straight years w/ no vacation breaks, Ultraman has been going on for 57 straight years & Kamen Rider has been an active franchise since 1971 w/ only a small break between 1994 and 2000. Among the big Tokusatsu franchises only Metal Heroes died. And that's not counting all the other standalone Tokusatsu shows & movies like Garo, Hurricane Polymar, Lady Battlecop, Kikaider, Hakaider, etc. So pay no attention to people who obsessively want Superheroes in general, and MCU in particular, to die.

I wonder if the Toku genre has similar critics in Japan

They most certainly do have critics as well as people both in Japan & outside Japan who sees Toei as the Japanese counterpart of Disney & all the negative associations that entails.

Not sure if I need to hide this in spoilers but 1 nitpick of mine in Cosmic MCU is that there is simply no way to make the Kree sympathetic at all especially w/ the events of this movie. They're pretty much Always Lawful Evil & Hate Sink as an entire species & that results in one-note villains w/ Ronan only somewhat getting away by being a Large Ham.

They are boring blue space nazis. Like even the Brood or Shair Empire feel more interesting as villains Rogue especially would be more unique than Ronan 2.

The Shi'ar would be pretty cool especially since we would get Gladiator and his Imperial Guard.

Who could be more interesting antagonists than the more one-note dogmatic Kree.

The Shi'ar would make for a Gray vs White conflict given how they can either be allies or enemies depending on the political situation in the galaxy (and whether the Phoenix force is involved or how badly humans are persecuting mutants again). Another point against the Kree even in comics is that other than Ronan, they barely have any noteworthy antagonists compared to the other spacefaring civs, The only one I could think of is Shatterax & meanwhile even Annihilus has an army of colorful supervillains at his beck & call.

[up][up]Rogue being used just as a plot device to depower Carol would be a disservice & a waste. Even in the comics it stopped being a thing that defined her & she's had better stories such as her relationship w/ her mothers, her husband Remy, her brother Kurt not to mention her being able to mix-and-match superpowers now. It'd be also great if they do bring back Goth Rogue into live-action.

As for the Kree in the MCU, the newscaster covering the Kree riots due to Xandar forcing a peace treaty on them was underselling it as it actually devolved into a full-blown resource devouring civil war that reduced Hala into a toxic wasteland & even stripmined their own sun. One thing I do like is how it ties back to Wonder Woman when Steve told her you can't just punch out 1 bad guy & everything becomes great & peaceful w/ Carol killing the Supreme Intelligence in flashbacks but the Kree as a culture still remained genocidal & imperialist.

Marvel's official music channel has a neat collab with Lofi Girl, doing a variant of the famous background music video with Kamala....also doing the same to the original.

I thought this was better than Captain Marvel, until the third act arrives and it decides to be considerably worse. Terrible rush-job of a climax with some of the most painfully obvious ADR ever. Cast innocent. Cats innocent, too. I don't really care for what the credits tease, but I'm sure some people will go nuts for it.

I wish they'd spent the entirety of the second act on the musical planet.

Is it not too late with the strike over to get the press tour out and promote the hell out of this film.

I'm sure they'll try to rush out as much marketing as they can, but on this short a notice that's probably not much. Cast interviews and stuff definitely takes a while to organise.

I'm sure that's the reason why all the ads I've seen so far feature clips of Brie Larson in a muscle shirt.

Saw it, generally enjoyed it, though there's the seeds of a much better movie in there. This is very much a vibes and 'move the players around to where they need to be for other stuff' movie, rather than a very tightly plotted one, but there's a handful of great scenes and lines, some fun universe-building and the rest is standard MCU fare.

As mentioned above Secret Invasion is totally ignored. In fact, if you haven't seen it, then things make more sense and are far less dumb. This movie makes Secret Invasion even dumber, what with showing how eminently reasonable the emperor is and then sending the Skrulls to Earth, which theoretically is hunting Skrulls at this point. Also, they hit the reset button HARD at the end with one line about how the planets that had their ATMOSPHERE or WATER stolen were all just fine now, because...okay? Also, is Earth like an interstellar power now? Or part of some federation or something?

I do think the comment above about riots in GOTG 1 is mistaken I think given the timing that had to be post takeover by Dravin, or whatever her name is. The Supreme Intelligence was destroyed 30 years ago, destroying their empire, then they warred with each other, one party one, then made formal peace with the Xandarians, which prompted some riots. This also casts a lot of Xandar-Kree stuff in a different light and makes it much more confusing, but whatever.

I will say there was one scene that was so oddly edited/shot that it actually took me out of the movie. Usually nitpicks occur to me on the walk home, but this one is so weird. They make a point about how Dravin can kill Kamala before anyone can react, so she gets the bangle, then releases Kamala and does this slow, dramatic placement of the bangle on her wrist and if there hadn't been other people in the theater, I actually would have said 'shoot her. Shoot her! SHOOT HER!' at the screen before she got it on.

But the scene with the Flerkins covers a multitude of sins for me.

Does anyone know who Monica's not-Mom was in the alternate universe? Not familiar enough with the X-Men to recognize her.

ETA: Also on Secret Invasion, this film confirms Carol did return to Earth at least once and remained heavily involved in Kree/Skrull business, which makes the plot point that she just ignored the problem on Earth even more confusing.

I think Hank called her Binary w/c was 1 of Carol's superhero names during her time as part of the X-Men. Come to think of it, the flashback talk between MCU Maria & Carol had her admit regret she wasn't chosen by Mar-Vell on thr day of the flight.

Well, I really enjoyed it. There is some seriously wonky editing, and the villain is Malekith-tier forgettable, but for me the main draw was seeing these characters interact, and it nailed with flying colours. There's also a lot of creative set pieces, particularly that first 3-location fight scene. Overall, I'd give it a 6/10. It's roughly on the same level as Ant-Man for me.

Also, is it weird that I was more hyped for Kate Bishop than I was for Beast? We've been getting constant X-Men teases, but this is the first time we're FINALLY getting our Young Avengers/Champions confirmation. Plus, Kamala imitating Fury and failing at being dramatic was adorable.

At this point the Kree are pretty much the modern equivalent of Mordor orcs. Except of instead of Always Chaotic Evil they're Always Lawful Evil.
