Literature.Undead Girl Murder Farce

Like Sherlock Holmes, except folkloric monster people exist. The anime has been my favourite of the season by a substantial margin

I also like it but I saw people complaining that M Cs banters are not that amusing and that dragging the first case for 3 episodes is a little bit to much.

[up] Probably the same people that complained about Farmland Saga, and thus must be not paid any heed.

Yep, three episodes in, and it is far and away the best show airing this season. Aya and Shinuchi have incredible chemistry together— they don't follow a typical "master-servant" relationship and are instead poking fun at each other all the time, which is highly endearing. I actually love that the mysteries take time to set up because it lets viewers see all the clues and come up with their own conclusions.

Speaking of which... Raoul seems the most suspicious because he has no alibi, and he knew about the silver even though only Godard and Alfred should know about it. But that in itself seems like a red herring, because the question of why the murderer bothered to return the stake to the storeroom still remains. I'm thinking that wasn't the murder weapon at all.

I need a bit more time to process it all, probably also need to rewatch. In any case, I'm excited for our talking head to pull the curtains down on this farce.

I like the banter, and especially that they laugh at each other's jokes and jibes. Too often the "bickering buddies" (I am forgetting the TV Tropes pothole name) sound completely serious about their insults and mean statements, and we're just supposed to accept that no, they're really friends.

Solid episode... that leaves me a bit worried that the story is going to be overtaken by literary references going forward

Episode 3: It was Raoul all along! Great breakdown by our resident talking head, but it was Tsugaru’s merciless beatdown of the killer that had me pumping my fists. “Strong? I don’t know about that.”

Episode 4: Mostly setup for a clash between our protagonists, Holmes and Watson, and Lupin and… the Phantom of the Opera? Sure, sure.

[up] Why do you keep using wrong episode numbers? Or do you count the first one as Episode 0?

I… I don’t know either. For some reason I completely botched the episode numbering. Whoops.

Episode 6 (I finally got the number right!): The whole birdcage swap was hilarious. Never thought we'd hear Aya scream like that. And Tsugaru threw the match against Lupin, but for what reason though? To give him false confidence?

The jewel Lupin wants to steal is apparently key to finding a werewolf. Which probably means one of these new faces is a werewolf. Perhaps Erik? Or Lupin himself?

I'm thinking that the gambit with the moat water was supposed to force the guards to flee, but with Holmes ruining the locks, it becomes a deathtrap instead. Oh no. Aya and Tsugaru have yet to show their hand, too. How will this melee a trois of wits play out?

Keep thinking the reporter girl was a werewolf.

[up] Same here.

I think, werwolf plot will be the next arc. We will probably spend two more episodes on this case.

That’s interesting, what made you think Annie is a werewolf?

Not much admittedly. Just been assuming she was something supernatural from the start, plus a werewolf appears right after her in the opening and she’s the first (or one of the first hard to tell) to show up on the diamond there as well.

As the new episode: that was certainly an escalation, the Professor’s crew certainly knows how to make their presence known. So we got Aleister Crowley, Carmilla the lesbian vampire, and Victor (Frankenstein’s monster) confirmed. Just need one for the Prof (who’s pretty easy to guess is Moriarty) and Jack (most likely the Ripper).

[up][up] Same here. It is just suspicious that werwolf is shown just after her scene in the OP and that she appers everytime Aya and Ko get a new supernatural-related case. If she is not a werwolf herself, she may be linked with them.

Ah, that explains it. I don't watch the OP.

[up][up] Escalation is right, there were so many back-and-forths and skirmishes. I reveled in the chaos. Aya keeping the safe door shut with her teeth was hardcore. Her efforts paid off, she made for one hell of a surprise!

The one pseudo-historical figure I'm gonna complain about is Jack, whom I presume is Jack the Ripper. I really need him to stop appearing everywhere. The rest though, I'm glad to have. Aleister vs Sherlock is the most interesting matchup, followed by the 3-way between Lupin, the Lloyd guy and Tsugaru.

Also Fatimah showing exactly why she's called Doubledarts had me snickering.

Really, not even a one & done?

Gotta say Erik just noping out of there was great, not even sure what Lupin was expecting out of him.[lol] Shame he ran into someone more unwilling to let him go.

I kind of want Erik to complain that the definition of "monster" is being stretched here. "I'm just a human with a mild facial deformity and a certain set of skills. Can I just go back to Paris? I've got music lessons."

Aya and Tsugaru don’t seem to consider Erik a monster, and I’d trust the monster slayers on that.

I do think we're absolutely going to get a secret werewolf reveal from someone touching that safe. There have been specific shots of people touching it (sometimes with a cloth) several times already.

It's been fun.

So, results of the diamond snatch affair:

Insurance guys got killed by Jack the Ripper, who is Moriarties ultimate weapon and sort of chimera. Our guys... they did not lose, barely. They could be dead by now, but bad guys decided to leave after gettting the diamond... albait not Lupin only can snatch things. Tsugaru also has the skill. And Lupin and Phantom just fled, smart of them. Oh, also we were hinted that Aya had sexual relationships with her maid.

Werwolves next as expected.

[up][up] Definitely had a hearty laugh at Jack realizing Tsugaru had pocketed the diamond. Screw you Jack. Also no one cared about the chopped up insurance agents haha. Tsugaru even used Fatimah's heart as a distraction. Don't worry Ms. Doubledarts, the hilarious legacy of your name shall live on.

Aside from what Nachtwandler said, we also learned that Aya's immortality is also artificial. If we're talking about historical villains that could potentially turn people into the undead, then I can think of Ashiya Doman. Who might still be alive in this setting, who knows.

The direction in this show continues to impress. Two notable instances were the cut to black via the elastic rebound of trouser garters, and of course the flashback to Holmes and Moriarty's last encounter being "played" on the floor tiles.

Could be Douman, could be Seimei. Doesn't have to be evil to be experimenting with immortality
