Funny thing, when I saw the movie in theaters with mom (my second time), she didn't understand all the references except for the guy who looks like Peter Pan going to meet Wendy for her dream to fly. And also when the pictures were shown during the credits, I listed all of who they were and what movie they were from, her mind was BLOWN at my immediate knowledge.

If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned. That sound like a big issue, tbh. If you're going to stake your appeal on references and nostalgia, then it shouldn't take a level of knowledge that confounds the layman to catch them. It's fine if it's just easter eggs, but not if it's such a central thing for the movie.

Was...that at me, or...someone else?

If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned.Yes. I pointed at you, and nobody else was talking about someone being lost and confused at the references.

I'm...sorry, I guess?
If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned.Um...why?
It's just that I posted something light-hearted, and...IDK, it kinda sounded like you were attacking me there about nostalgia...sorry.
If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned. It is not an attack on you to point out that a movie connects much more with a small niche than the mainstream, unless you count the success of the movie in the mainstream as important for some reason.
I wasn't really expecting to talk about mainstream and niches, I'm not good at talking about serious stuff like that.
If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned. It's not serious, though. You talked about how someone who isn't super into Disney (the mainstream) was shocked at how much extra you (the niche) were able to get out of the movie. I think that's a great illustration of why the movie's been doing so bad with the larger audiences. And it's not something you should give much thought to unless you're really into that multibillion corpo kinda life.
No one who isn't familiar with Snow White for example is going to be too wowed by Magnifico's final fate for example.
Disgusted, but not surprisedApparently there are rumors of Musk planning on buying Disney
https://youtu.be/8vzFKsCJm9I?si=ny5ISm_hsBCyk2C4
Disney has issues to be sure, but the idea of what Musk would turn it into is terrifying
I not sure what Musk could do with Disney. I haven't looked at the numbers, but I doubt he could buy all of it. Even if he did, he couldn't run it all himself. I also don't really think that he is that interested in the typical Disney animation stuff. It is much more likely that he becomes an activist investor, and joins up with Peltz.
I also don't buy a lot of that Musk is evil stuff. He is immature and the world would be a lot better if he just deleted Twitter. However, a lot of the hate against him is blind tribalism.

The guy barely knows how to run half the things he owns right now.
I did a quick check, and it may be wrong, but Disney and Musk seem to have the same net worth. However, Peltz has about 2.5 Billion dollars of shares in Disney and is one of the biggest investors. Although that isn't all his money. So Musk could probably buy that much and get some people on the board. Things aren't going super easy for Peltz though. Apparently he has enough to demand a few seats, but not enough that they automatically give them to him.
I actually got the junior novel for the movie a week before release, and just like I did with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, I waited until AFTER I saw the movie BEFORE I read the book.
If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned.Random tgought, but the more I think about it, I feel "This is the Thanks I Get!?" works better as a song sung by an Anti-Hero who doesn't get that his people aren't ungateful, it's his actions are unworthy of respect, and the rest of his story is learning that lesson.
I even have an idea where with a few mods, it could work for Gilgamesh.
Though most anti-heroes don't really give a shit whether people thank them or not. Most heroes don't give a shit for that matter.

Disgusted, but not surprisedMagnifico being someone who's so focused on his own self-importance that he holds magical parts of everyone he can as a means of being able to establish Control Freak levels of power over them—and lets small challenges to that cause him to fly off the handle so drastically that he passive-aggressively makes a spectacle out of denying someone something, harnesses dark magic, manipulates a man into a puppet working exclusively for him and then absorbs those magical pieces of everyone's very essence to boost himself even more—having that specific song in which he thinks everyone should always be grateful to him no matter how wrong he is does make sense. I could see context being reworked for the song to apply to someone else though too. Not saying that exactly.
I mean this is made to be filled with the references, but I can understand why not everyone might catch them all though. Disney's success as I think I said already comes from having both things that appeal to everyone while also having different things that appeal to different people too—though the latter more so in the aspect of the films having staying power and not always financial success. That's clearly gotten harder lately. Wish had the potential to appeal to a lot of people—even if a niche number of them—and I personally think it still does too.
Again, I can see why it struggled so hard to find an audience and still is too though.
Nothing to be ashamed about when it comes to catching and appreciating all the references when that was what the movie wanted you to do. It probably shouldn't have banked its whole being on it though admittedly.

The movie releases physically tomorrow, so to celebrate I wrote a fanfic about Asha's mother, Sakina, and the idea that wishes can change over time.
The Protomen enhanced my life.I picked up the one DVD left at Walmart last night. No white cover unfortunately, but that's okay. I'm so glad they kept the artwork/poster I wanted them to that I'm not even that disappointed if at all.

The Protomen enhanced my life.I got the Blu-Ray too, and one of the features is the "Once Upon a Studio" short.

@wooden-ladybug93: And so will I. :)
@Shoobedobah: Yeah, how come it took until Sleeping Beauty for the writers to give the main man a name? :S
