Kinda wish that Primal's robot mode still had the silver/blue/red colours, but I think their trying to make the Maximals more rounded and streamlined to contrast them with the Autobots.
That would fit with both using Beast modes and being from the future.

Because the bit you see of the back of his head in the trailer is disconcertingly round.
Where is the future thing coming from?

From the original Beast Wars; the Maximals and Predacons are descendants of the Autobots and Decepticons, respectively, and travel back in time to prehistoric earth. People are speculating that this lore from Beast Wars will carry over.
Also it would be extremely disconcerting for almost every other Autobot to be sticking more closely to their classic designs only for Wheeljack to show up with that hideous head. None of the shots we’ve seen in Bumblebee or this this trailer would indicate they’re keeping anything from the Bayverse designs.
Also also, I just noticed that neither the Decepticon nor Predacon logo shows up in the rotating logos in the trailer; it’s only of the Autobots, Maximals, and the Terrorcons. Wonder if they’re actually keeping it that way and just leaving them for a cameo at the end, or just keeping them for a surprise.

Hitokiri in the streets, daishouri in the sheets.Well, to play devil's advocate, the Autobot design here, while a vast improvement over the Bay aesthetic, still does take some cues from it when compared to the more cartoon acurate show designs shown in the Bumblebee Cybertron scenes.
For what little is worth, leaked concept art for Wheeljack's design in this one does have the ears.
Me: "Honestly, this whole Bayformers thing isn't working for me. I thought the first one was okay, but the second and third just lost me. I think I'm out."
Franchise: "New Transformers movie trailer just dropped."
Me: "Yeah, but I haven't cared about Transformers movies in like ten years. I don't think there's anything you could really say that would bring me back."
Franchise: "Rise of the Beasts will feature an adaptation of the Transformers: Beast Wars characters and concepts."
Me: "...oh, you son of a bitch. Let me at that trailer."
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.That's right. Get back here Tobias.
Also, Bumblebee was good, more lighthearted, but good.
One Strip! One Strip!Strap in! The second Rise of the Beasts trailer just dropped!
Huh so we are getting Unicron after all.
I think Scourage here seems like he's taking from Armada trilogy's sideways as Unicron's herald /voice
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Honest to god we got Unicron and it looks like they took the designs from his first appearance.
Sincerely S Awatching.
Considering that the movie takes place in 1994 (about 8 years after Unicron's original Real Life appearing in Transformers: The Movie), there's probably a meta logic to that.
Hell, 1994 is about only two years shy of when the actual Beast Wars cartoon started as well in real life. Maybe I'm seeing something that's not there, but it's nice symmetry.
One Strip! One Strip! So, are they going try to meld this into the old continuity by having Unicron lay dormant in the Earth by the end of the film, as what was established in The Last Knight?
Because I think Hasbro is still kind of wishy-washy whether this is a full-on reboot or still part of the old continuity no, don't look that hard, what are you doing?!
Bearing in mind that they're both borrowing that plot point from Prime.

At least we now know where most of the CGI budget went to.
Also, since nobody is talking about it, I'll say it.
Nobody expects them to kill Bumblebee, but it would set itself apart from the original film quite a bit.
One Strip! One Strip!Okay, I'm no great fan of the live-action transformers (granted that Bumblebee was good), but I will say that I'm kinda excited to see Unicron turning up.
And I do think that Arcee (was that Arcee?) looked pretty well-realised.
Also, was that Michelle Yeoh's voice that I heard?!
Otherwise... No Dinobot yet? :P

My Games & WritingYeah, Arcee's been shown since the first trailer.
But huh, Unicron seems like some kind of thing they'd put as the big finale or something, but either way it looks great. Seems like along with the Transformers working for Unicron we'll also apparently be seeing Terrorcons.
I'm kinda worried that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will bring back the dumb humor and too much CG action of the Bayverse movies when Bumblebee had heart, a human protagonist whose likable and good jokes.
I get the distinct impression that they're still going with a new continuity, but are reusing elements from what would have been more Bayverse movies. Early script treatments, concept art (was there not a piece released some years back of Optimus Primal, before Bumblebee came out?), Unicron, etc. Hopefully less... Bay-ish, though.

Wake me when they adapt Beast Machines.
But seriously, I actually had no idea Michael Bay wasn't doing the movies anymore. But I haven't really followed the Transformers movie since the 2nd one anyway. (Which as a teen I actually kind of liked? Not sure if I still would now)
I got a feeling this will be the last ride for Transformers movies for a while. Even if this movie is a financial success I feel we're gonna get a long hiatus between projects.
GIVE ME YOUR FACEWell, there is the WGA strike going on right now. A lot of projects might be delayed depending on how long it goes on for.
Or the next one we get will be really bad again. Major writers strikes tend to have that effect when studios are primarily interested in pushing out Product regardless of quality, and there's no one to salvage mediocre scripts.
Hopefully they have the sense to just delay it, though.

I get the feeling studios will start leaning on AI writers during this strike.
GIVE ME YOUR FACEThat will definitely not work the way they hope it will. I forsee some real trainwrecks arising from that.
