Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury

Well, Delling is a bad guy but being a bad father is more specific than being a father who is also bad. Guel clearly wasn't raised well, but that barely registers on a bad anime parents scale.

This is also hilarious because, by all accounts and according to the short story, Elnora spent the last twelve years raising her daughters into super Gundam pilots and procuring Bits and so on for Aerial, then decided to send Suletta to the Space School For Assholes specifically equipped to defeat Delling's asshole son and marry the girl Delling wants his son to marry. Step 3: ???, Step 4: Revenge?

You misunderstand. Delling is Miorine's father, not Guel's. Guel's dad is the guy who was about to assassinate Delling.

So far, we have two jerk parents using their kids as tools. One placed his daughter as basically, a prize to look for some heir or something, and the other tried to force the marriage to happen and plotted to kill the first one once he had things in position and only called it off when someone else had the prize. And a plotting mother, but Suletta at least is doing better, beyond requiring a lot of help socializing. But with a blatant asshole and a girl who tried to basically do reentry in only a space suit, she is gold. Let's see the others' disfunction.

I suspect the details of Elnora's plot are only going to make her look worse as we learn more about them. And she apparently neglected her kids pretty badly. It's looking like 'don't treat your kids like objects' is going to be G-Witch's main moral

I guess that Eri's family is still being hunted by the corporation, and that's why she changed her name?

Do all Mercurians have Mercury as their last name? That's like all Earthians having the name Terran.

Well, it IS a name that was picked in a hurry.

Gundam in general takes a dim view of the kind of parents who actually encourage their kids to pilot mobile suits into battle when they're still kids. Reminds me of Gundam Age's Flit training his own grandson to be a pilot since he was a toddler.

The announced characters include someone with the last name of 'Ceres', so maybe?

Or maybe Mercury is an important surname that also functions as a title. Maybe Elnora became a big deal at their community.

Though I guess Elnora's still not as bad as Flit, since she "only" wants revenge on a specific person apparently, while Flit was raising Kio to commit genocide.

Miorine seemed awfully fine with deeming Suletta her new groom despite wanting out of the whole engagement in the first place (to the point of possibly considering suicide to do so if one interprets her "escape" as her escaping life). She probably has her own motives, which may include using Suletta as a shield from other unwanted suitors and maybe cause Suletta's a WAY better option than Guel.

I also wonder if the engagement thing will last and whether Suletta and Miorine actually become an item for real. Or even if not, their relationship gets further fleshed out.

Either way, I expect Miorine finds having a timid girl who can barely speak to her, but whose personal Gundam has Bits, to be more or less ideal. Not much likelihood of Suletta being defeated, and she's quiet enough that Mio basically doesn't have to interact with her if she doesn't want to.

I expect their relationship will get fleshed out more, or at least I certainly hope so. It's only episode 1, after all!

And maybe the girl part is important.

True, but we don't know how Mio feels about Suletta yet. At the least, we can assume Suletta has shown her more consideration in the past hour than Guel ever has, because *gestures at Guel*, but we'll have to see how much of Mio's drive to escape was due to exactly whose trophy she was.

Considering she seems to want to return to earth because of its connection to her mum I kind of doubt her enthusiasm to run will be curbed at all.

Very true, but I don't want to preemptively rule out the other obvious reason she might be that much more amenable to an engagement to an effective stranger. Assuming she's resigned to some sort of engagement, just less so about the 'being in this damn school' part.

There's also the fact that Miorine recently got found out trying to escape, so she'll probably not try that again for a while. And thus this leads her into making the best of a bad situation by playing by the stupid rules and making Suletta a means of protection.

Another question is, is Delling so confident in his position as the head of the Benerit Group that he doesn't think he could be assassinated? He seemed to blow off a mundane thought of meeting the two agents that are supposed to be watching his daughter.

(Which was suggested by the guy who was the captain of the Ulysses 12 years prior, so there you go.)

Yeah, unless he really wanted to give his daughter to Guel, the fact that Suletta is a better bodyguard than the actual bodyguards is telling.

Yeah, if I was in Delling's position, and I heard some arrogant brat trashed my daughter's greenhouse and those two idiots didn't lift a finger, I would've fired them on the spot.

Granted, with how casually Delling can apparently just outright remove entire corporations from the economic whatever it is, I'm surprised he hasn't been actually assassinated already.

Maybe because his founding of Cathedra still carries significant weight? I mean, he only kicked out that company (Parneo, iirc) because they were losing money (and now that I think about it, it was incredibly stupid of me to think that this was caused by a match's results in the dueling system) and were in the red.

Wait, those were Miorine’s bodyguards? I thought they were Guel’s.

I don’t Miorine wants to be engaged. But if she has to be, better to a bumbling bumpkin than an arrogant jerkface. Especially since she has a better chance of manipulating Suletta to help her hatch whatever plan she has in mind.

Is it even manipulating when the second thing Suletta said to her is basically 'I'll do what you want'?
