MultiVersus - WarnerMedia Platform Fighter

Not keeping my hopes up, but it would be cool if a new MVS trailer did pop up at the Xbox event. Especially if it's paired with a new Sparking Zero trailer. I do wonder what new stuff will be added and changed, aside from new characters and balancing.

I've never seen Multi Versus abbreviated as "MVS" so I was confused on why you were talking about SNK's Neo Geo arcade board.

If we do get a trailer, I'm expecting just new characters and maybe one or two added features.

The news will be that Zaslav wrote off Multiversus for tax write offs.

Funny you say that, apparently recent news has it that Zaslav wants to lean more into live-service and mobile games. Considering MVS is a live-service game with a battle pass and everything, there's a good chance this is one of the few projects he wants to keep afloat. Plus, if I remember correctly, there was data in the beta that pointed towards a mobile port of the game.

Multiversus is the one live service game WB made that didn't immediately burst into flames from nobody playing it. They'd be insanely foolish to write this game off for tax write-offs.

You vastly underestimate how insanely foolish (not to mention ghoulish) ceos are.

The WB Ceos are going to write off the Wily E. Coyote because no one wanted to pay $75 million for it because that's how much it costs to make it even though they would get less than half of it for the write off.

Though remember that if they had sold it off that would have allowed someone else to make money from it.

If you can't make all the money back from the sale, it's arguably better to write it off and lock it up. You won't get as much money back, but no one else will be able to make bank off of it.

It works because of an unfortunate loophole in our tax laws that more or less incentivizes this crap. A loophole that hopefully will be plugged someday.

I just realized something about the community manager's cryptic teaser.

Not a confirmation, but it seems that the game might indeed appear at the Xbox showcase later today, with the hints towards it being the MVS-themed controller and the Master Chief helmet. That reminds me, didn't Tony use to work on Halo?

Doesn’t appear the presentation itself had a MVS announcement, which makes me think it’s going to be a separate announcement from it.

Probably don’t have to check the MVS subreddit to know that they’re probably acting like the sky is falling now just because it wasn’t in the presentation, though.

I mean considering what the current person in charge has done, it's not surprising that a lack of a showing for a project that was put on hold might be a sign that it's doomed.

…You did see all the teasing and activity on MVS and PFG’s Twitters/Instagram accounts yesterday, right? They’re clearly gearing up for something.

Ah, gotcha. Sorry if I was rude or anything.

It should be noted that they did explicitly say that they would let people know when they were about to announce something, so I reckon announcing something during the Xbox presentation today wasn’t 100% on the table, given they didn’t say anything of the sort before the presentation started from what I can tell.

Rough day for anyone that wanted to have Rooster Teeth characters in this game, unless they aren't selling their I Ps

Context: Rooster Teeth is shutting down. Usual WB nonsense.

I'd say it's about 25% WB, 75% Rooster Teeth finally succumbing to its cavalcade of terminal illnesses.

Granted, PFG did say third-party stuff was on the table, so even if RWBY gets sold, it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility...

I did hear that Rooster Teeth did have some serious behind the scenes issues going on, but it's still a shame to hear about this.

That + there's a non-zero chance RWBY isn't sold at all, between lack of interest and WBD's willingness to just vault "unprofitable" content.

RT's work in general is in an extremely awkward limbo, being predominantly new media built heavily around specific personalities and fair use of IP they don't own, and RWBY, the one original IP of theirs worth a damn, is marred by it primarily being a web series and still being chained to the enduring legacy of its late creator. It wouldn't surprise me if there are very few who want to touch it, and it wouldn't surprise me if the ones that do can't afford WBD's asking price for the franchise. Though in the case of Multiversus that very lack of certainty may be diffusing in itself even if ultimately RWBY doesn't move anywhere.
