So is this a loose adaptation of Operation Galactic Storm minus the Avengers to act as peacekeepers? Also didn't expect Vulcan to actually appear this early in the show.

Even if the Shiar stuff is B plot, it'll still take up valuable space.

Shows do b-plots, its a common thing.

Last week had the stuff with Cyclops and Jean as the b-plot to the main plot in Genosha.

[up]Given how she was when she called Charles, I don't think Deathbird was successful.

Lifedeath Part 2 just dropped

Yep, Charles is back and we get a little insight into what he's been doing with the Sh'Iar, helping out as an 'educator', Yoda style he 'senses' the Genosha massacre and the death of Gambit (but rather tellingly, NOT Magneto). Storm also gets a power up as well as a new costume/hairstyle. At the end we discover the culprit responsible for the Genosha massacre is Sinister

Okay, I was expecting Ororo’s powers to come back — but what I wasn't expecting was Ororo's She's Back moment to include her rocking her original look, complete with the tiara. Still, I did figure Xavier would come back and confirms that Remy's dead.

Also, I'm kind-of bummed that Richard Epcar wasn't back as Gladiator.

Xavier's not just an educator, he's the future emperor as Lilandra interrupted Operation Galactic Storm to announce their wedding. He's also walking now. The decision was controversial at best and Deathbird tried to use the marriage to start a coup. Xavier then tried to use telepathy to deescalate things however the genocide on Genosha put an end to the wedding plans and force Charles to return to Earth.

From the way Sinister and Trask interacted, the former has taken the same role as Cassandra Nova in the comics. On a sidenote, the way Gladiator fought here was much less like how he fought in the previous seasons and more like how Superman fights in animation starting in Justice League.

Really liked how they incoporated Shi-ar stuff into theme of an episode, with “white lie”. Plus seeing Charles put Shi’ar bigshots into the clasroom was hillarious.

It does make sense that they gave Sinister role of Cassandra Nova. Unless I missed something Charles having an Evil Twin would be too out nowhere at this point (not to say it is imposible to do, just really close). It may be me reading to much into it, but Bolivar Trask’s reaction to Genosha seems to hint that he may have Heel Realisation for real.

Not just the white lie but the Shi'ar's MO of forcing assimilation and passing it off as benevolence is a feature done by many empires across history, from the Roman Empire to how Islam was spread out of the Arabian peninsula at swordpoint and at the expense of various ethnic groups and cultures such as Copts, Assyrians, Yezidi, Kurds and Jews, how the Spanish and Portugese spread Christianity in South and Central America and Southeast Asia, etc. Even the idea of the model minority fits into this.

[up][up]I think it's a Big Bad Duumvirate actually. With Sinister and Bastion-rember Theo James got cast as a fan favourite character. Hence this is an adaptation of second coming. Would explain the sentinels and also finally allow Master Mold a shot at reversing vilain decay - since they could have him be an extension of him here rather than a new composite since Nimrod isn't sapient here-

This episode's intro did show Nimrod stepping out of Master Mold's chest so it could be a foreshadowing of how Bastion would be adapted here.

Uh, I skiped intro this episode. It will be interesting to see if it is Sinister and Bastion alliance since two coudn’t be more different in end goal (at least when it comes to mutants), though both are also types to ally with someone like other if it futhers their goal.

Oh, another new feature in the opening is that Nightcrawler replaced Gambit and Magneto so we'll pretty much see him as part of the team in the next few episodes.

Well they have worked together before. In x men blue and his batshit insane plot to convert all of humanity to mutants so he can never run out of things to kill

Unless I am mistaken it was ''Miss'' Sinister Bastion worked with.

It would be cool if we do get that as Bastion/Mold’s motivation for working with Sinister (assuming that is what’s happining, it could easily be something completely different). Granted, here mutants are not about to go extinct, but Sentinels were involved in time travel plots in original series. Though in all likehod if we do get Bastion/Sinister alliance they will probably go for much simpler “Cause war between humans and mutants and then duke it out on different sides to see who gets to rule Bad Future Cable is trying to stop”.

What a coincidence for me and significant that Forge's indigenous heritage and imperialism's assimilation was brought up storywise because I was rewatching Wolverine and the X-men and noticed Forge was white in that one.

Not just getting married to Lilandra and becoming Emperor, he could've actually helped usher in reforms in the Shi'ar Empire and he probably thought that the X-Men have everything under control back on Earth. Then Sinister and Trask pulled an attempted genocide and the rest of the nations saw this as an opportunity to strike back at Mutantkind.

Oh so now Trask feels remorse. Was the actual genocide like a huge anvil to his conscious?

And old(er) school Storm! That's a damn twist!

But man, both she and Charles are in for a lot of surprises when they get back!

Judging by Sinister and Trask's interactions, it seems they're actually bringing back at least some of Trask's much more sympathetic comic self. Partially because they're basically giving him Donald's role as a normal person being manipulated and emotionally abused by a villain (Sinister instead of Cassandra Nova) into allowing the Genoshan Massacre to happen.

I dislike the return to the classic outfit. This was supposed to be 90s X-Men, why do they keep moving away from it?

Also: I saw spoilers Vulcan (the third Summers) was in this episode, but didn't recognise him? Clearly not a prominent role?

I do like that Nightcrawler is in the opening sequence. Also Gladiator getting his superman on in the action sequence

But honestly: The short nature of the series is telling again, if Xavier is back as leader of the X-Men, that implies Mags isn't coming back and him as leader had a lot of untapped potential
