A new Disney show is being made called Primos. It's created by Big City Greens director Natasha Kline. The show centers on Tater, an eccentric 10-year-old girl with big dreams and, unbeknownst to her, a certain “it factor” that makes her exceptional. When her 12 cousins (“primos” in Spanish) move in for the summer, they help her discover just what it is. Tater’s aspirations and larger-than-life imagination are seen via entries in her super-secret diary, which turn her deepest thoughts into grandiose animation sequences.

They're not going to do anything as drastic as a tax write, that is straight up not happening (it would also be really scummy behaviver towards the people who worked on the show)

Has Disney written off any shows in the past few years because of tax write offs?

[up] I don't recall that ever happening, they just kind of bury something if it doesn't live up to the hype.

This show is probably going to face said burial simply for the controversy it got.

Once again, stop with the doomsaying. There's a rule against that.

There's little to discuss, and I strongly doubt if/when there is more to discuss that it will be remotely positive.

This seems to be bothering you enough that I sincerely think you should ask the mods to lock the thread, likely to stay permanently locked.

[up] Eh, a permanent locking doesn't sound like a good idea. It'd be pretty dumb if this thread stayed locked and we had to make a new one just to discuss the show. Just have it locked till it comes out.. Whenever that is.

First of all, if there's nothing to discuss, then just...don't come in just to complain when that's against the rules?

Second, I don't feel a lock is necessary.

I don't think it's really complaining if we are just pointing out the controversy surrounding this show and these are just theories that we are just putting out. It's possible that this show might do well anyway, despite the controversies surrounding this show. Many shows would go on and run for a long time despite the controversies surrounding them. Like for example, Family Guy and South Park had their share of controversies over the years and they are still running.

Yes, but you only need to state those theories once.

It's after you've already said "but this show might be shelved" that it enters into obnoxious (and as others have pointed out, rule-breaking) doom saying.

When you just keep repeating the same thing over and over in a circle-jerk of negativity, that's when it becomes a problem. Rather than locking the thread, you can simply not keep whining about something that isn't even out yet.

[up][up]Granted, family guy and south park thrive on that by the very nature of the show.

On other hand, probably most of the backlash have fade away, at best between that and now(or rather whatever the damn thing show) there will be some author saving throw here and there and probably the show will be kind of standard disney thing some will see and then forgotten. not good, not bad.

But is mostly speculation.

Apparently the show was quietly pushed back to January. Guess that would explain why things were so quiet.

Reviving this thread to say that this show has been delayed.. again. This time all the way till June.

Man, can't help but feel kind of bad for the people working on this show. All the backlash was crazy enough, but now it seemingly caused Disney to just sit on their work when I'm sure all the episodes ordered have been long completed.

Was thinking back about this show and the thread, I'll admit my reaction was really bad and wanted to voice some things for closure. I realized shortly after my outburst here that.. man this was a pretty bad faith reaction, I shouldn't have cared this much whether the product offended me or not. Thinking back I really had no business being this upset, but I chuckle that the Sol short from my homeland Perú got brought up and hyped online just to spite the Mouse.

Either way, realizing my overreaction (and watching other media with more favorable latino content, like that Transformers movie in Machu Picchu) made me more mellow about the topic. It really wasn't worth getting this angry for a show I'd have skipped on either way. At least this show's reveal taught me to not bother getting offended for nations outside of mine (like the typical joke about white teenagers on twitter getting offended for the sake of other races). And beginning my Kingdom Hearts marathon this year definitely made any of my hate of the Mouse disappear.

Either way, 2024 is here at last, I'm wondering if the June 2024 release has been enough time for Disney to edit the intro song itself, the Oye Primos lyrics are kinda the only part I feel should change completely since it's not immediately obvious to the American audience that said spelling is wrong, and I think it'd be poor faith to encourage poor spanish to the audience (was happy to learn that the first 2 minutes of the pilot already had joke about her struggling with Spanish).

So, uh.. yeah, this takes my blessing, probably won't watch it still cause I'm already way older the intended target audience, but as a latino I wish it good luck once it premieres.

I was the only one who thought the show looked cute and any weird naming things could be modified in the Lat Am dub.

Filling the dub with jokes that weren't in the original and are better liked by a south of Rio Bravo audience might help it but Disney doesn't do those, that's more of a thing anime distributors and Warner do. Closest thing would be the Simpsons dub, but that's a leftover from the Pre-Buyout days that got revived once Humberto Velez's crew came back.

Even so... Disney likes to keep the English names. Kermit stopped being Rene, Tinkerbell stopped being Campanita, so on.

Uncle Scrooge still is named Tio Rico and Pete is still Pedro, but they are pretty much impossible to switch back by now. There was a lot of pushback against the change to Kermit but Disney was adamant.

[up]Oh THAT is a much stronger argument I have no defense for. I do think they might to modify them at least a bit because Disney Characters Internation was a VERY censored dialogue heavy studio. But you are probably right. Miraculous was "Prodigious" for a while because religious references were off limits thanks to Gravity Falls.
