Writing an entry for the Canonical List of Subtle Trope Distinctions on these two tropes, as the differences between them aren't that obvious to me, nor are they really explained in either trope desc.

  • Mission Control: Helps the main characters from afar, usually communicating through long-distance technology. Their role can involve more than just talking, being able to aid the situation remotely.
  • Voice with an Internet Connection: Communicates with and sometimes helps the main characters from afar, but this usually the extent of their abilities. Not necessarily an ally.

Please correct me if I've got anything mixed up.

Bump. While still trying to figure out the difference between these two tropes, I remembered that I posted this a while back.

The core difference is that Mission Control is about coordinating a team while Voice with an Internet Connection is about real time information access. One will be planning and timing how things turn out while the other is providing support to those in the field as needed.

Do you not know that in the service one must always choose the lesser of two weevils!
