I mean, even the female audience seems to treat Aqua like a prize, so I don't think it's just a case of "self-insert."

Winning Girl is the one who successfully manages to avoid romantic entanglements with Aqua.
I have a love hate relationship with how the whole thing is written because the girl's feelings for Aqua do lend itself into some good emotional scenes but also there is so fucking much to unpack in all their relationships and I also dislike the harem shenanigans revolving around him
I absolutely cannot help but adore handsome 2D boysI'm for whatever discourages Aqua from committing incest.
Nach jeder Ebbe kommt die Flut.Yeah, I am going with this from now on. I just want them all to be happy dammit!
Best girl Akane appeared.
Now do something.
But she did, she saved Ruby from Kamiki for now.
Not good enough.
What else is she supposed to do, though? Kill Kamiki?
She actually planned to do it previously but was stopped.
And now a filler chapter...then ends on such an out-of-character note that I initially mentally reversed who was talking and who was being spoken to.
Eh, why so? I though it was very in vein of Kanas character. She does not get her own feelings and often switch beteween being egoistic and sacrificing herself for others.
I am more angry with Aka, who every damn chapter tries to fuel a different ship.
Because the last chapter Kana was featured in had her successfully cheering Aqua up just be being silly herself, and also as the person who is the least connected to the revenge plot she should also be the least worried about Aqua needing to be more open and warm. In fact, she's been the only one taking the idea seriously that he's too warm and open to Ruby.
...
People tend to self-insert into the main character. Also the idea of the "winning" girl means that the endgame love interest is automatically given a higher status in fans' minds.
