I'm against this merge/split proposal, as it does nothing to improve the wiki beyond the extreme minority of works with a debated country of origin. It'll take an extreme amount of effort just to do something manually that 2.0 will do automatically later on.

I don't think that 2.0 wil come out any time soon so we probaby shouldn't use that as an excuse to not do anything.

Since the question of whether Anime should even be separate from Animation is relevant to this discussion, I'm going to add my two cents that came up in a previous discussion.

I think the important part of the "Anime and Manga" folder isn't that it's from Japan, but specifically the Anime and Manga part. To clarify, in my experience at least, out of all the differing forms of adaptation out there, Anime adaptations tend to be significantly more faithful to the source material (usually manga, but light novels are becoming more well known outside of Japan, at least) across the board, not just in occasional situations (for contrast, movie adaptations of books are infamous for often being Pragmatic Adaptations at best).

In a world where Anime was under Animation and Manga was under Comics, and I wanted to put an example for, say, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, where would I put it? The Anime and Manga are almost exactly one to one. Probably 99% of tropes that apply to one would apply to the other. The examples would be split between those folders like crazy, or potentially even duplicated between them. This comes up a few times elsewhere on the wiki, but I think it would inordinately apply here if we didn't have things the way we do.

However, if I was going to put an example for a movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, however, it should go under Film - Live Action no question, because they are not direct adaptations of the comics and in my experience few adaptations of Western comics ever are.

Grouping "Anime and Manga" together and separate from other Media makes sense to me not because of origin but as the most efficient way to group tropes, which is what we do here. It's not a perfect system. Anime that are less accurate adaptations or aren't adaptations at all go under that folder despite not fitting with this concept. Also, if that trend significantly changes over time the grouping will stop making sense for us, but for now I think it's more logical than it seems at first glance.

That does still leave us with a question about the main topic here. Normally point of origin or market isn't a problem for namespace, because most namespaces are about medium and I just argued for keeping our main exception. Short Run in Peru seems like a weak technicality to decide namespace to me though. There's been a historical difference between hiring a foreign animation team for your local work (which is extremely common, and applies to a good chunk of classic 80s and 90s Western works), and having a wholly local work that you just happen to know is lucrative enough overseas to give some preferential treatment to. That said, there are some surprising edge cases in this thread that I'll admit I am on the fence about.

The status of Fena: Pirate Princess has been questioned elsewhere.

It's made by a Japanese production company but aired overseas first. I think Anime/ is right.
