So, in the page for the 1997 Golden Eye video game, one of the tropes listed is "Arbitrary Gun Power", comparing the game's RC-P90 and AR-33.

Technically speaking, the RC-P90 is supposed to be the FN Herstal P90, which uses the quite powerful and wicked little 5.7x28mm round, and is very much so as dangerous as the game presents it, even in comparison to the 5.56x45mm out of the M16 rifle the AR 33 is based off of, just with less accuracy at long range.

Basically, I am saying that the power of said weapon in game is actually kinda justified, not really arbitrary. Or am I being too nitpicky?

Bravery is not a function of firepower.

I had always thought that the "arbitrary" refers not to guns' performance having nothing to do with their real counterparts (many games try to reflect real combat), but to the general idea that a hit from a bullet makes the target lose X number of hit points, because real gun injuries are too complex to simulate or understand within a game. This would be an Omnipresent Trope with no straight examples.

But no, the article itself talks about relative gun performances not matching reality, like pistols being better in some respects than rifles. Mismatched Gun Power would be a better title.

You could edit the entry if you have the knowledge, on the Goldeneye page and on Arbitrary Gun Power, which have two very different entries, a problem in itself.

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.
