I think that’s what they were going for in that scene. I didn’t quite buy that Rudy would make that mistake, but whatever.

Honestly kind of on the nose to have Rudy conveniently miss the “-iette” part of Sylphiette.

Man I can’t get over the beginning segment with the OP playing over it. Looks so beautiful. You can even see the dust particles in the sunlight.

Rudy was working with the mindset of her being an embarrassed kid and prioritizing just having her quickly have a hot bath before the cold air + wet clothes make her catch something (though kid's concept of nudity would usually be less solidified at this age, but let's put that aside).

Yeah, I figured. But it still felt weird to me given its similarity to the bullying he was shown to face in the previous episode.

It's not the same, but its superficially close enough that I feel it should have raised a flag for him.

I honestly expected once they were at the underwear stage Rudy would just do the normal thing and let his friend retain privacy at the cost of a slightly less efficient bath.

Indeed. However, its the fact that it doesn't pull its punches that I appreciate.

The anime did apparently omit some things from the LN.

Rudy later admitted to Zenith that he lied about Paul raping Lilia as their maid, and that Zenith knew that something like this might have happened eventually, even in spite of her religion being anti polygamy. It might come up later when that part of the story with that church becomes more relevant, though.

I know, right? So far the way this show has treated its female characters has been gross. It’s even offending me more than Redo of Healer did, because there are genuine things to love about this story, and those distasteful elements are putting me off. Seriously, how the hell is Lilia okay with staying around the guy who raped her and fled? WTF Paul? WTF?

Anyway... curious to see where Rudy is headed now.

The point is that these people aren't perfect and have fuck up when they were young, even now they still have fuck up. It how they try to fix thing at the moment is what matter. Paul is basically a frat boy who now have to act serous since he have a family now while still carrying around his past mistakes.

Redo of Healer is at least honest about it being garbage, trashy, grindhouse schlock and for that I can at least respect and even SOMEWHAT like it since I do have a bit of a soft spot for grindhouse stuff of various types. This and several others(Shield, Goblin, Eyepatch maybe too)...no. The veneer of bullshit intellectualism and depth offends me more than anything Redo may do along with the amount of effort going into this series since it'strying to have it both ways by having reprehensible trashy schlock while still trying to play itself serious as having some deep story to tell. That it's getting such an amazing anime adaptation just pisses me off even MORE since it feels wasted. Like all of this effort and talent would have been better spent on something more substantial.

I can only dream of the day something like One Piece or Biscuit Hammer gets the Mushoku Tensei treatment.

Paul raped Lilia when they were young, then did it again (though Lilia kind of seduced him but not really) and actually wanted to have sex with Lilia again despite knowing that it was a horrible idea. That is a far cry from “not perfect”. Paul from the last episode was a good representation of “flawed but trying to improve.” Paul in this episode is a straight up scumbag.

x2 I won't go so far as to say this anime doesn't "deserve" a good anime adaptation. For all the shlock there's been a lot of scenes that warmed me up to the characters.

I think what would make it a bit more bearable if most of the characters trashiness wasn't horniness related, because it then makes it at the expense of the female characters involved

while Paul deserves to be in the garbage can and set on fire in them, those aspects aren't really mutually exclusive honestly. I have people in my life who would rather die than not double down in some of their frankly awful mindsets that I still love but who also try to improve in other stuff, so I can accept that somewhat especially since there's still WAY more of the story left to see.

That said, yeah, he's still a rapist and a weak-willed weanie who couldn't wait a measly 9 months for his wife to not be pregnant, throw him to the wolves.

Isn't the second time not rape? Like i don't know if this is spoiler or not but MC basically choose to preserve Lilia and his mom friendship over Paul so he throw Paul under the bus by saying it all Paul fault for forcing Lilia while the true is that it was a moment of weakness for both of them, Paul and Lilia.

It's not a spoiler, Rudy is pretty unambiguous in his intentions this episode.

Paul still decided to jump on a naked lady simply because she was a naked lady, just turned out Lilia was willing. But yeah, not criminal.

Yeah I think that’s what I want Mami. There’s tons of flaws aside from lust, use those!

Today's episode was amazing! Rudy's method of trying to deal with Eris was kind of questionable but overall 9/10

He wasn't expecting Actual bandits kidnapping him and Eris, just people hired by Pauls cousin.

I also normally dislike Tsunderes, but Eris's violence isn't meant to be entirely comedic, and her short temper is more or less innefective against actual trained adults.

The fact that he didn't expect the escalation doesn't change the fact that his plan is still questionable. Eris was a menace and a brat but I can't really approve of those kind of scare tactics on kids, even if I'm sure she's used to seeing violence.

Well they both brat to be honest. And while the MC might have the memory of his past life, he still could and would act like a kid sometimes. It just that he smarter than most kids his age. Intelligent =/= emotional maturity. Also does his the impulse control part of the brain fully developed yet? Does having memories of your past live affect that?

I'd say his issue has more to do with his general lack of social interactions and the fact that he makes his general choices via game knowledge than anything related to brain development

Ep 5 was Key animated by One guy, and its pretty cool that he managed to make it work, and make it look fucking awesome. Gislaine killing those bandits was the best shot so far.

Favourite part of the episode was honestly right at the beginning with Rudeus reading Paul's letter and he and Ghislaine just throwing him under the bus again.

Well that and the hella awesome animation when Ghislaine takes care of the kidnappers.

Dammit, Paul needs to go to horny jail.

So Rudy was shipped off to work as a tutor to some bratty girl, and gosh what a brat. Literally slaps people she’s just met. Who is teaching that kid? Why did they have to wait for a tutor to come along before teaching her the basics of courtesy? Not that Rudy’s “plan” was any good, but that’s more because as Mami said he’s an idiot who relies on nerd knowledge for social interactions.

Holy shit at the fight scenes, though. Ghislaine stole the show with her supersonic slash, but I’ll have to say I like how Rudy fights. Throwing those stone spears that can turn into smoke bombs when slashed, hitting people in the groin with earthspikes, I’m a huge sucker for mages flexing their spell repertoire.

Sound design was crazy this episode.

So this was the first episode where Rudy's awfulness actually worked for me. I think it's because he was actually genuine for most it, rather than hiding his intentions behind a manipulatively child-like front.

Like he was still manipulative and self-centred. But he wasn't pretending to be anything else.

x2 Honestly not sure if Eris' terrible behavior is meant to be an indication her father/parents are absent or just really bad at teaching her how to act. Or that the author just didn't think it though, because the amount of interaction her father has with Rudy does suggest he cares about her development.

A bit less of the awful excess hornyness this episode, but that's kind of a low bar.

Other than the usual complaints I did like this episode. I thought it was a pretty neat setup for the next few years of Rudy's life and seeing more of the world. And I do like Eris.

I'm honestly not sure if its meant to be just the characters or the authors opinion. But I really disagree with the whole thing re Paul with Sylphie needing to grow apart from Rudy.

Just because, well, she's the daughter of a small village family who seemingly has a innate talent for magic given she picked up Rudy's chantless casting. She's not exactly going to be able to progress by herself or have access to resources/second hand knowledge via Rudy when he is gone.

Sure the emotional leaning on each other could become an issue. But they're seven. Feels a bit too early to take such drastic measures.
