Details

It will take place across two timelines, the first focuses on Albert Wesker's children as teenagers, with the second timeline set in an apocalyptic world with one of the daughters now in her 30s.

Executive producers are Supernatural's Andrew Dabb (also main writer), with Walking Dead's Bronwen Hughes alongside him, together with Robert Kulzer and Oliver Berben of Constantin Film, and Mary Leah Sutton.

Ok. Well after the Powerpuff thread I guess I shouldn't be outright negative. I'm just perplexed at how this came to be, like, someone sat in a room and said "let's tell a story about Wesker's unseen children, RE fans will be intrigued."

And I am a bit intrigued. Let's see how this turns out. I'd like to see a trailer before I truly cast judgment, but I suspect it'll be months of cast leaks and announcements before we get that.

How exactly do you make a TV show based around a survival horror franchise. At best I figure it'll be a mash of Stranger Things, American Horror Story, LOST, and Alias.

[up]Survival horror isn’t too hard to transfer actually, at least the way the remakes of 2 and 3 went with their reasonably involved narratives. You lean 60/40 into a horror bent or an action bent, depending on who you’re working with (2 leaned 60/40 horror, 3 leaned 60/40 action).

As for Wesker’s kids, my guess is you could cover events in the background of the series, particularly 6, while going into a horror bent unlike that maligned game did. There’s always going to be a metric ton of skepticism about an adaptation that features peripheral characters, but there’s a lot you can lean into with worldwide conspiracies and monsters that could work in theory.

I wonder if they'll do a Liv and Maddie thing with the sisters and have them be identical twins played by the same actress or go with fraternal twins.

It'll be interesting to see how this timeline is laid out. If its already New Raccoon City, then they could set it in the modern day and well after the events of the first 3 games, and leave that as general background info.

I'm a bit confused by the kid thing - Wesker did have a son in the game continuity, but he never knew abou him and said son only showed up in Resident Evil 6.

Well, this is its own thing.

So it seems (so far) that Wesker doesn't have a son in this continuity, and instead has twin daughters.

Think the BO Ws will be appropriately grotesque here? I know Resident Evil always had some B-movie in them, but still, could they sell the unholy mutations properly in their budget?

Wake me up at your own risk.

I imagine we'll get some gnarly BO Ws, yes.

Zombies by themselves are pretty easy to make scary with just makeup, as various shows have shown.

[up] You'd think so, but the RE movies somehow went down in quality - the ones in the fifth one looked like they wandered off the set of Dead Snow.

Well, sure. Just because something is easy to do doesn't mean it will actually get done.

My point was more that I imagine Netflix will give the show the budget to do very decent monsters/effects/costumes ect.

Whether or not the production team uses those resources efficiently, well that's a different issue.

Wonder how the little Weskers will react to their relatives' actions.
