Leaving Stoneton

(Once Will has more period appropriate clothes, the party starts to head out of the northern part of town. Not far ahead outside the town, the woods taper off, giving way to the open plains of the savanna.)

Looks about the same as it did when I went through there the first time. (Argus remarks.)

God, how could people in 1258 wear clothes like this?

This was the question Will found himself contemplating as he followed along with the group as they began to leave town, with him now wearing the proper clothes needed to blend in and make himself look better. Not that it makes him feel any better, anyway.

So what do you need us to do, then? Spread out and look about this area?

Hypnos looks a little nervous.

"We're not all going to split up on our own, are we? I am new to this world, after all... I've never been great with directions, either."

Savanna

We shouldn't have to. (Argus says.) As long as we keep following the path, we should get to the first village by the middle of the day.

(He motions ahead where the tall grass begins to look worn down a little, showing a path going on into the savanna.)

Ash begins to head down.

(As everyone goes on, a village that's seems much smaller than Stoneton appears ahead of everyone.)

What's this place, Argus? (Deborah asks.)

Oh, it's a family village called "Little Savanna". I don't remember stopping here for very long. (Argus explains.)

(Most of the buildings are small farmhouses that seem small enough for only about two or three people to live in and are surrounded by gardens and fences containing various livestock animals. The party may notice that a couple of human villagers are repairing a gap in one such fence. The people notice the strange party entering and some of them look nervous.)

"That sounds interesting.."

"It looks like a nice little place," says Mitts. "I wonder what those people are doing over there?"

Here it comes! (Someone shouts.)

(Suddenly, an ostrich goes running through the small village. This wouldn't be so odd if not for the fact that the ostrich is running considerably faster than an ostrich normally would run, is flashing many different colors, and leaves behind a rainbow trail as it runs. Several of the villagers drop what they're doing and begin to run after it, but it's already en route to the eastern part of the village.)

As if everything else couldn't have confused Will so deeply about being transported to 1258, the sight of this Ostrich might have just taken the cake.

Wha....what the HELL just happened?

"What—"

(The ostrich runs out of the village and into the savanna.)

...Did anyone else just see that? (Argus asks.)

Ooh, I did! (Taki says.) I was supposed to say that I did, right?

(Deborah approaches one of the villagers who was chasing the ostrich.) Hello! We're from Notalot and we just saw what happened. Care to explain what's going on here?

I wish we could. (The breathless villager replies.) She's one of my family's ostriches. She was fine a couple of days ago, then all of a sudden, she started flashing colors and running really fast, and none of us have been able to catch her!

Will comes down the hill just a bit more to make sure that the villager would be able to hear him a bit more clearer than if he was in his current state.

Ma'am, do you have any idea on why your ostrich would've done this?

We don't know. (The woman says.) She was with the rest of her flock just fine one minute, and then the next...WHOOSH! She was flashing colors and gone!

Ok. What should we do, guys? I think we have to try to track this Ostrich down edited it gets away.

"Yeah," says Hypnos. "I'm not sure what that color changing is all about. There's some strange magic going on here that even I'm not familiar with."

Little Savanna

Silvia stepped back for a few moments so she could recast her glamour out of sight of the townsfolk. Once she was back in her human disguise, she stepped up, one of her rods at the ready.

"That must be quite a strong transmutation," she said. "At the rate it's letting off power, I suspect it'll wear off eventually, but the poor creature could wear herself out first. Perhaps we could set some kind of trap? Then we won't have to outrun her. Once she's caught, I can see about identifying the effect."

Whatever magic it is, it isn't anything like we've seen around here before either. (The villager says.) We've tried everything from nets to setting out food to bringing out her mate, but she doesn't stay around long enough for us to calm her down and figure out what's wrong with her. If any of you have any new ideas on how to stop her for more than a few seconds, we here would be glad to hear it. We're all exhausted from trying to catch her at this point.

"Oh!" says Mitts, turning to Hypnos. "Maybe you could use your magic to put her to sleep so we can catch her?"

"That's a great idea!" Hypnos says to Mitts. He turns to the villager. "Where is she?"

Will has found himself a bit tuned out from this conversation, not exactly following it.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea if you ask me. (Argus agrees. He looks to the villagers.) Have you tried anything like that yet?

No, sleeping magic isn't anything we've tried before. Heck, we may have seen magic before, but none of us have ever used it here, actually. (The woman says.) If you think that might work and you want to go after her, she went that direction.

(She motions eastward out of the village.)
