The problem is that Hao's crimes are too extreme for the level of sympathy he's given by the manga. We already know he's a mass murderer, and that he murders Shaman if they get in his way or disagree with his ideals, so he doesn't even have Ape Shall Not Kill Ape as a standard. His Start of Darkness is the murder of his mother, but we know he orphaned Lyserg all the same. The manga doesn't care about this at all. The author just had his opinions on humanity's effects on the environment and stopped caring about making the debate interesting or nuanced.
And I keep singling out the manga because the anime did this a lot better. Hao is treated like he actually is instead of what the manga pretends he is, no one in the cast is sympathetic to him, the anime used its filler episodes to argue against the manga's one-sided Aesop's, and the scene of the entire cast coming together to turn Yoh into a Spirit Bomb is far more cathartic than the Ultimate Group Hug ending the manga gave Hao.
So how do people here feel about Anna and Yoh's relationship?
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult. They probably shouldn't be parents.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireHonestly, it totally was a mistake for them to do it when they were teens.
Poor Tamao.
I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.Probably one of the most dysfunctional relationships ever.
Anna is horribly abusive and Yoh has no backbone, the worst possible combination.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireThis better be better animated and paced than the previous anime.
Pretty sure the nostalgia well is running dry especially after the lifeless rushed still animation of the SK reboot.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I really, really hope it turns out better.

The problem is more giving the right to judge to the guy who thought genocide was a viable solution.
