Beginning: Who am I? The key to the mystery lies with the one who calls himself Calypso. He told me to enter his contest and that, if I win, he would grant me one wish: that he had knowledge of my forgotten past. Calypso claims to have special powers. I don’t know if I can trust him, but, and I think he knew this as well, anything or anyone trying to stop me is going to lose. Once I win this contest I’m going to find out who I really am.

Middle: Maria. That name haunts me. I went through all of this, caused so much death and horror just so I could remember. But I remember you. I remember that we were friends, but that’s all. Who was I? Who were we, such different creatures, talking, living together on some kind of space station? I remember you being a kind person. And that old man… Gerald. He was your father. But something happened to the two of you, didn’t it? Calypso. If I find out that you had anything to do with this, I swear I’ll make you pay.

Beginning: They say that Mario had a trophy in every sport, contest, and competition. But how can they say that when he’s never competed in Twisted Metal?

Middle: Mario had competed in vehicular sports before, but a demolition derby? The usual power-ups weren’t there. There weren’t any blue shells here. No floating blocks with question marks on them, or Lakitu floating around waiting to pick people up. Mario wasn’t sure this contest was on the up and up. A lot of those people he’d hit didn’t seem to be doing okay, but, they were being treated for injury, right?

"That hat-wearing freak killed my dad. All with the press of a button! Well that’s all it’s going to take for me to fix things! Just - one -button! Da-dah, you’re going to be so proud!"

Kirby always had a big mouth. Said he could take anything the bad guys could throw at him. Lived in his own little world most of the time, but the contest got his attention and he hopped on the Dragoon, more determined than ever.

Well come on Jak. How hard could this Twisted Metal contest be after the Grand Prix? It’s not like we know any of these chumps personally! And besides this might be my only chance to fix things with Tess! She doesn’t know it yet but she’s going to love me once I, uh, I mean we win this thing. That Calypso better keep up his end of the deal.

Coming from a point in the future where robots coexist with human beings, the Blue Bomber got his name for a reason. With his father Dr. Light in jail and his sister missing it seemed like all hope had been lost until Rock heard about the contest. It sounded a lot like the Battle & Chase so, why not? Rock and Rush entered in a heartbeat.

On the F-Zero Grand Prix a single wrong turn can end one’s life. The respected bounty hunter and 3-time F-Zero champion is known around the world as "Captain." His vehicle is the "Blue Falcon" which travels over 1,500 km per hour. Calypso wanted this mystery man in his competition to balance out the more powerful drivers.

Banjo didn’t need any help putting together his vehicle after his last adventure. But, then, he and Kazooie didn’t want to enter in the first place. But Banjo’s sister had gone missing and not even the Lord of Games knew where she was, so they had to seek other forms of help if they wanted to find her.

Sackpeople are made out of many layers. Not every Sackperson is the same, or is interested in the same things. Some want to create. Some want to go karting. And others want to drive those karts at mach speeds into other peoples’ windows. The manifestations of these Sackpeople no doubt would draw them to Creator Curators like Calypso, inviting their imaginations to join his destructive contest. But what on a little big planet could a person made out of cloth and stuffing want as a prize?

I am the most brilliant mind on the face of the planet. Do you think winning such a barbaric, natural gas-wasting contest is beyond my grasp? Hah! Once I complete these upgrades to my high-performance, armored, crystal-powered racing vehicle there will be nothing to stop me from taking out the competition. Not even that infernal, criminally uncoordinated, inconceivable bandicoot!

Diddy strapped on those barrels and decided that enough was enough. It was his time to be in the spotlight! If Calypso kept his promise then the country would soon be named after Diddy instead of Diddy’s uncle. Cranky warned him about getting tangled up in that contest, saying it "didn’t do nobody no good," but Diddy refused to listen.

Leave the bottle. (gulp) So as I was saying chum… what was yer’ name again? Lips? Right, got it, erm, so yer saying that if I, I enter this… contest… I can have anything I want as the prize like, anything? Anything at all? ‘Cause I-I don’t want money or booze. I can have… anything I want, no matter how impossible?

Dad, Gordon; I don’t know if you’ll ever get the chance to read this, or if anyone will, but I’m writing it anyway. Dad, I love you. I’m sorry I couldn’t… I’m sorry for what happened to you. I swear I’ll make the Combine pay. Gordon, I… I just want to see you again, god willing, you’ll just pop up again like you always do. But I guess you’re not the only one popping up in strange places anymore, are you? I’ve been so many places, done so many things and yet it feels… it feels like I was with you a moment ago, holding my dead father with tears in my eyes. Now I’m behind the wheel, foolishly thinking I can change things.

Look Jacqui I… I don’t care about going AWOL. I don’t care about Commander or about jarheads, buzzcuts, and the Queen’s royal navy coming after me. You didn’t see what I saw when that creep stepped into our barracks. It was Mom, alive and healthy, like she’d never gone on that mission. I was about to knock his teeth in but she started screaming, and he said that the only way to save her was to enter. I know the mission was to bring Calypso down but… please, don’t come after me. I have to do this.

Hmmm-hmmm. Such the gentleman. What was your name again? Calypso, was it, yes, well as you can see I have no need for having my desires fulfilled. But what you propose could be amusing. Do you really suggest that you can return to them to me, intact and not too revealing? Hah. Well if you can pull that off I might not make you pay for that drink. In fact - Rodin, another platinum for our friend here! He’s offered me quite the useful opportunity.

I don’t really have a choice, do I? This Twisted Metal thing sounds like it’s going to cause a lot of problems for a lot of people. Reeve and Barrett are handling the situation their way. I’m going to handle it my way Tifa. Go in, track Calypso down, and put an end to it.

No one's gonna stop me, you hear? Not the end of time, not Chaos, not Lightning, and not any of the freaks in this contest! If I have to kill all of you, then I will. I’ve lived for centuries in this polluted world and don’t think for a minute that I’m going to be killed by you sideshow attractions … Serah, I promise I’m going to save you this time. I swear it.
