The Matrix: Revolutions Pitch Meeting
Gonna watch that shortly. I'm going to go in as one of the people who really liked the Matrix sequels because I felt like I got the thematic elements the Wachowskis were going for. That's not to say I don't recognize the flaws in them, though. And the "Neodammerung" final battle is one of the coolest things I've seen — in film. Yes, I know it was basically copied from DBZ, but what isn't?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I feel like I'm in the minority when I say that the second Matrix movie was the only good one in the trilogy.
It's been 3000 years…Well, the Pitch Meeting is exactly accurate: The Matrix was a perfectly good standalone film. It didn't need a sequel. More to the point, it had a huge existentialism theme and dove deep into the nature of reality and consciousness. The sequels... kind of didn't. They had lots and lots of talking. So much talking. Talking until half the audience fell asleep, but somehow they weren't even half as deep as the first.
The Wachowskis had something really big they wanted to say, but it somehow it ended up a lot less profound when punctuated with CG action scenes and navel gazing.
And I still like them: don't get me wrong. It's just that they could have been better.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The reason I prefer the second one to the others is that the first one was honestly too slow-paced for my liking while the third one was far too stuck up its own ass. Sure, the Architect is the worst part, but I can just skip his scenes.
It's been 3000 years…I don't know; it's really hard to separate 2003 me from 2020 me writing this now. I was a much different person then, and to me the films were wonderful and the message of the Architect was a maximum HSQ moment that blew the lid off of everything I'd thought up until that point.
In retrospect, watching them again, sweet baby gods did that man drone on about so very little.

There is so much to love. For example, the commenters on the video pointed out that when Ryan says "medical professionals", he shows a clip of the RV from Breaking Bad. Because of course.
