I enjoy writing short stories, but I'm always stuck on the writing style that I should use. Should I lean towards narratives or imagery? The genre I write is horror. In most cases I require some degree of imagery in order to deliver my desired results(that being horror). However, I often find myself writing more when writing imagery.

I write short stories by the philosophy: "less is better." I usually start my stories off with narrative, then switching to imagery whenever the scenes' get scarier. But is that really the optimal choice? Or should I start with some imagery, put in narrative whenever I need to time skip, and add in more imagery when it gets scarier? Or is there some other style?
