What's fan painted models got to do with it?

As far as I am aware, fan painted models are the tabletop game equivalent of fan art and therefore should probably get the owners permission or at least be credited to the owner.

I don't think it's quite equivalent. It's sort of like taking a picture of a cosplayer, except we're not talking about a person. Unless you want to argue than any and all photos are copyrighted. Which they might be, but it's nothing we've taken into account before to my knowledge.

You should always ask permission before taking/using pictures of cosplayers, if only to be polite. The same is true of fan models and art, even if there is no copyright issue it is simple curtesy.

The image on Zerg Rush's Tabletop Game page isn't a great representation of the trope and seems to use fan painted models. I would like to suggest replacing it with something a bit more official such as this picture
