One of the best, strangest, weirdest and strangest and also best (did I mention weirdest) games of all time will finally become available again this fall.

Let's party.

According to Reddit that trailer was made using the Dolphin emulater

That's a pretty big claim.

Main basis for that claim being something that looks like a frame-rate percentage appearing near the top left of the screen during the Kun Lan silhouette part. (0:52-ish)

Killer 7 probably wouldn't receive a warm reception if released today. It was very much a product of its time when attempts at experimental cinematic storytelling and gameplay were easily forgiven for any oddities, merely because people were excited enough at the idea of having anything like it. But now? Wouldn't be hard to make a title like Killer 7, save for maybe having quality voice acting and character motions. Just look at how many title have more or less tried something vaguely similar on Steam ever since Greenlight.

So basically, if the game does sell good or gets consistently glowing reviews, its due to pure nostalgia, not because the game aged well or that the story was revolutionary. And hooo boy... I don't wanna kick a hornet's nest, but GOD DAMN, Killer 7's story is arguably the single most convoluted and insane story (so much to the point of being TOO convoluted and interpretation-heavy) I have ever witnessed in my life, no exaggeration.

Not that I fully disagree but

Dude. Come on.

There may be more experimental titles out there but you'd be hard-pressed to find one even remotely similar to killer 7's art style, voice-acting, and themes.

Which is why I mentioned the Voice-overs and animations; nobody on Steam Greenlight is gonna be able to copy that type of quality unless they have a considerable budget.

But the gameplay, and and the art style, even? Nah, cell-shading isn't that difficult to implement. Heck there's more than a few titles out there with the same type of heavily shadowed cell-shade designs. And the railroaded gameplay... well, I'll give Killer 7 this much, it's certainly unique even for a rail shooter. But when I went back to it a few years ago, I just couldn't help but feel that it was designed that way due to the limitations the Nintendo Game Cube forced upon Suda 51's team, not because he was trying to present a subtle theme or be unique. Buuut... Resident Evil 4 was also on the Gamecube, yet allowed Leon to run around freely, so... I'm not sure on this part.

I have no idea what are you talking about.

Censorship probably

Anyway, this gives me great hope that other previously Gamecube exclusive titles might make their way over to the PC

A significant update that adds more content to the story and clears up a bunch of plot points? Heck yeah, pretty sure that'll help drive sales, but unfortunately as Suda himself pointed out that's only gonna happen if Capcom find the idea profitable.

On the other hand... that might ruin the mystery somewhat. Some stories work far better with a sense of mystery and confusion, and by elaborating further the writer ironically ruins some of the wonder and fandom imagination that was built up. Take Donnie Darko for example - everybody thought it was this super-deep film with all sorts of subtle commentary, but when the sequel came out... nope, turns out that it was mainly a jumbled mess.

Knowing Suda it'll likely become even more confusing.

Missed this by a few days, but Killer 7 was finally released for the PC.

Runs pretty good too from what I'm hearing, though they didn't add any special features aside from the ability to use the keyboard+mouse to control the game, and nor did they add any subtitles. That last omission may be problematic for those with poor speakers, hearing or are ESL because the game's dialog wasn't improved either; it still sounds muffled at certain points, and the way some characters talk (particularly Kaede Smith, or everybody whenever selecting them on the mono-TV) is gonna be frustrating to interpret.

There's also a limited edition that comes with a remastered soundtrack and a digital art booklet, but that's probably only for the most dedicated of fans to grab.
