So in addition to Titans and Young Justice, it looks like we can expect a live t.v. adaptation of the Doom Patrol superhero team with Greg Berlanti and Geoff Johns serving as producers.

For those not familiar, the Doom Patrol are basically DC's X-Men - a group of misfit characters whose powers cause them to be isolated and outcast from society. Though unlike the X-Men, most of the Doom Patrol have conditions that aren't quite easy to cope with i.e Robotman is a guy who had his brain transferred to a robot body after his human one was destroyed in a car accident.

[up]Last name I expected to hear from this given his years of isolation and the many horrible things that happened to the poor guy personally. Although he has gotten back into roles recently, so this is a big increase in re-exposure.

I am beginning to think DC is putting more effort in the Doom Patrol show than Titans.

Can’t really say I hate that thought, I always wanted to see a great Doom Patrol adaption after reading both the Silver Age and Grant Morrison comics. Its good to know that a lot of work on this show is done to make it look amazing.

Especially the practical effects they are using for Robotman. I can’t wait to see a trailer for this.

Wonder if the Robot Man suit's mouth moves; it'd be really weird looking if it didn't, but that mask looks pretty solid so i don't know...

Negative Man needs a better optometrist. How can he possibly function with those ill-fitting glasses?

Will Monsieur Mallah and The Brain, the ultimate power couple, be appearing?

If you aren't averse to spoilers, this article is filled with information about the first episode (although I would take everything with a grain of salt until we have more information). If it is true, then there are a lot of really interesting things like Rita being an actress from the '50s, Cliff having a wife and daughter before his accident, and so on. It sounds amazingly like the Doom Patrol though.

As long as they keep the utter weirdness, rather than making it so serious that the oddball nature of the concept gets lost, I'm so down with this series.

Doom Patrol gets compared to X-Men (I think largely because of Caulder), but it's always been more "the weirdos and misfits who fight the bizarre things most people can't," kind of like Mystery Men but without the additional element of them being "losers."

As a few of their runs have shown, you can go Darker and Edgier with them, but you can't lose that element of utter weirdness - you have to play brains attended to by giant gorillas, or guys who can turn into animals/minerals/vegetables simultaneously, or the complete mass of confusion that is Mr. Nobody straight and without fear - or else the whole thing just becomes cliche and typical.

I guess a Darker and Edgier Doom Patrol would be like superhero Fringe, though in general I could see them working fine with a Doctor Who-esque tone.

Either way, from the set photos it looks like they get that - Negative Man and Robotman look gloriously silly yet unabashed.

So, when do you think we'll have a PV?

Wake me up at your own risk.

Here is something I never anticipated:

Matt Bomer is Negative Man. I'm not sure if he'll do what Brendan Fraser is doing and voice the character and then physical play them in flashbacks, but if he's up for the entire bandage thing, man, good for him.

Honestly I am mostly just curious if there's going to be a casting announcement for Danny the Street.

Lol, they have to call her Elasti-Woman despite her coming first.

Considering she's a woman not a girl, it's more appropriate anyway. Even Hawkgirl eventually started going by Hawkwoman.

The teaser’s tone is appropriately weird, which you want from a Doom Patrol series.

New photos of Crazy Jane. Beware: some spoilers in the text.

I am so hyped for this show.

I really hope this show isn't offensive in it's portrayal of mental illness.

This is my one big fear about the show. We didn't see Jane in the "Doom Patrol" episode of Titans, so I have no idea how they are going to portray her. And the comic book version of Jane was...interesting. Morrison had a lot of good ideas for her and at times, there was some really great writing, but I also think he only had one reference book for her (When Rabbit Howls by the Troops for Truddi Chase) and I think it would have been better if he had looked at other cases and tried to be a bit more realistic.

I would say that I've never see DID portrayed sensitively and accurately on TV before, but, surprisingly, Iron Fist Season 2 did just that with Mary Walker (who was Typhoid Mary from the comics, not a good portrayal of DID).

So no Mento huh?
We don't know if he's going to show up or not, but considering the show seems to be taking a lot of cues from Morrison's run...probably not.
