Right..... I'm actually surprised that this manga didnt receive a proper discussion as it will also get an anime adaptation sometime in the future.

Anyways, for those who didnt know what this manga is all about. Here's the basic story taken from MAL.net:

"After being killed by a passing robber, a normal 37-year-old guy find himself reincarnated in another world as a blind slime with unique skills. With a new name "Rimuru Tempest" he got after meeting his new friend, the "catastrophe level" Storm Dragon Verudora, he starts his slime life in another world with his increasing number of minions."

So basically its an Isekai genre all over again. But I heard from some people that it's one of the best of its genre. Now I havent read the manga yet and looking forward to the anime. But I think this thread could be used for discussing the manga and the foreseeable anime adaptation in the future tyvm

It doesn't even have a tropes page. And yes, having read the manga and the first LN, I can indeed attest that's it's a solid read.

I've read the first volume of the manga. It's definitely solidly in the isekai power trip genre, and in the subset of that that includes RPG skills and elements like Kumo Desu Ga and Death March, but I liked what I read of it. Was gonna keep on with it, but I think I'll probably just watch the anime instead.

Oh, funnily enough, the official English title according to the author is the subtitle he gave it, 'Regarding Reincarnated To Slime'. Which is clunky as hell.

[up] Wew...I agree with you for being clunky as hell. And btw, I would love to make a trope page based on it actually. Any best tropes that could describe this series in your opinion?

Unfortunately, I don't have too much experience with actually creating trope pages. There are a few I could think of, but I think the wiki's stash of RPG-isekai tropes is actually pretty slim overall.

It's been fun.

I guess so. But I think the Trapped In Another World trope exist for a reason so yeah...

I'm sure there are plenty of tropes we could apply to it anyway, of course. I'm just thinking of specific Seen It A Million Times things from the RPG-isekai genre, like having one overpowered skill that ends up being the foundation for the main character's awesomeness (Death March has Meteor Rain, Kumo Desu Ga has Analysis, this manga's eat-and-absorb powers, etc). The power copy itself is tropable but I don't know if we have the overarching 'overpowered skill' trope.

That would be Unique Protagonist Asset, Invincible Hero or Story-Breaker Power.

Out of all Isekai series I've read, and it's been a few, this one is probably the best one. It feels to me like the author has much more writing talent that the average for the genre. Like, yeah it has some elements of power fantasy, but compared to many series that are just pure power tripe with the plot being just an excuse to showcase how cool the main character is, this one has a story to tell. And it's one that been neatly woven so to speak. Like, I was genuinely impressed how all elements just fit together, often in ways that are not obvious at first and create a story that complex, but not complicated.

Also, I like the power system (seriously, Great Sage is my favorite "cheat ability" out of any isekai story), the focus on country building, and the characters. I really hope the anime gets to show Millim because she's gonna take the community by a storm.

What Shlugo said. To add, he's not even the most powerful and his his skill set is rather broken, but not in a way that feels like he's cheating. A lot of it is down to clever manipulation of said skills and knowing how to combine them for maximum effect. I've read just about everything translated with regards to the manga and the first LN so I can add stuff to the page, but am not exactly the best at editing pages or creating them, but would like to contribute.

@Shlugo Pretty interesting. Hopefully though... The anime adaptation would do the manga justice IMO and probably this could be one of the most popular animes in Fall 2018 who knows.

Slime-bro will probably attract an audience, as Shlugo said it is one of the better Isekai for multiple reasons:

1. Unlike most isekai where there is only a little village building in the beginning, this one actually keeps coming back to the city and-later country building.

2. While the MC is powerful, he isn't the strongest being in the whole world and some of his fights are actually challenging. He also uses Super-Empowering a lot and often delegates tasks to his subordinates.

3. Harem antics are kept to a minimum since the MC is technically asexual and uses an androgynous teenager as his goto Human form.

[up] Ah that makes sense. I think maybe it's time for me to make a page for it but I'll save it for later. And lets hope that the studio who abimated it could do some miracles tongue

I hope this turns out well. I read volume one of the novels and while I liked it, it moved too slow for me so I don't intend to continue the novels but I am interested in the anime.

I hope the anime takes after the manga though, it reshuffled a few events from the novel to a positive effect.

[up] Seems interesting if they went into that direction. However, I'm not sure what kind of reshuffle that you want to see...

The manga is actually loyal to the novels... the light novels that is, which are a reboot of the original web novels and change up some things.

Funny enough, that's actually the life cycle of most light novels as i heard. They start as amateur web novels, the popular ones the catch attention of publishers and get redone into light novel format, then they'll get a manga adaptation and eventually an anime.

The web novel is completely translated by fans, with blessing of the author even, so I would recommend starting with that.

Oh btw... Some people lowered their expectations because of the studio that will produce this anime is the same studio who produced Infinite Stratos... And then theres the fact the director from that anime would be directed this anime... Well, still. I'm just crossing my fingers a little bit but given the reputation of Infinite Stratos...

As much as you can't really blame the storyline on the studio, Infinite Stratos is the anime equivalent of chewing through a mile of cardboard. You know exactly what you're getting into the first time you see it, there are exactly no surprises at any point, and everything that comes after it is depressingly samey.

I can't imagine them making anything good in the isekai genre, which already generally fits all those criteria on its own.

[up] Ummmm.... Pardon?

And yeah, then again... This is also the same studio who produced Grisaia anime series,Absolute Duo and Tokyo Ravens. But I'm still keep the expectation a little bit lower even if I could hope its at least decent for the final product.

Basically, Infinite Stratos was bad and spawned a lot of bad copycats. I'm hoping that the quality of this series will shine through and not be damped down by the staff, though.

Yeah that's my boat though I'm open to being surprised. I had high expectations of the Golden Kamuy and while not bad, it wasn't quite what I had in mind(THAT CGI BEAR AND WHERE ARE MY EXAGGERATED FACIAL EXPRESSIONS!!!), meanwhile Wotakoi was being produced by a studio with similar questionable rep and it's currently on FIRE and one of the must watch shows of the Summer line-up. My biggest worry is the same as One Piece, the studio banks on the series already pre-built popularity as an excuse to be lazy with the animation quality thinking that people will watch it anyway due to liking the LN and Manga(yes they're both THAT popular).
