Not if he could come back. An Undignified Death is only cathartic for the audience, but villains like Shredder or Emperor Palpatine have come back from it and with more determination to get revenge. And if they can come back with ease, a world where magic is affected by emotions would make Belos' comeback a lot easier than most.

Which is why I feel that permanent closure for Belos is literally just letting him die in his own lies with no stomping or aid. Let him die with no hope and give him nothing. No hatred or curses. Just apathy. And let despair of his own making befall upon him. Can't more poetic than that.

If writers wanted him to come back anyway even after a death like that, they'd find a way.

It feels like you're saying it's wrong for the Boiling Isle natives to finish off Belos themselves. You frame Belos' hypothetical return as somewhat karmic backlash, as if they deserve it.

Besides, we all know the actual reason said villains come back from seemingly permanent deaths like that is because the writers can't come up with better antagonists. I'd like to think whoever writes a hypothetical Owl House sequel isn't a hack like J.J. Abrams.

Because he was going to die anyways by the rain. I believe in killing when absolute necessary, not kill them while they're down and defenseless. If they killed Belos in his Titan form when he's at his most powerful, that is acceptable.

Hey, if the people who were abused and downtrodden by a tyrant want to finish off a tyrant, it's their right.

Besides, stomping him was also a way to make sure he was dead. They couldn't leave it to chance. They had to make him die with their own feet just to make absolutely sure. Belos did come back from other things that should have killed him, after all.

Honestly, they should have also included a scene of them torching his remains too for safe measure.

But again, if writers really wanted to use him again, they'd bullshit an excuse.

Honestly, it feels like you're trying too hard to justify a scene's flaws. It's animation. Just have Belos' skull literally lose the light of the eyes and become regular skull made of dust. Then have the witches stomp on it. That would have sold he's Deader than Dead.

The fact that Belos was shown to have survived as a puddle of goop really didn't make the stomping scene any more reassuring.

Again, it seems like you just wanted the death scene to have more drama as opposed to the horror comedy this series is.

The more vile a villain is, the more undignified their death ought to be. That's why more sympathetic villains almost always get more dramatic and dignified exits.

Your suggestion runs the risk of making audience members feel a little sorry for Philip. And we shouldn't feel sorry for someone like that.

Feel sorry for him? I enjoyed him suffering from his very poor choices. I enjoyed him dying pathetically and begging for Luz's mercy in the rain. The stomping is merely bathos. And I have very mixed feelings when it comes to bathos.

IMO, while dragging out his death with melodrama could work. Him dying an utterly pathetic and humiliating death is way better because it denies his final moments of any direct or indirect dignity or pity; he's so depraved and been so self-centered that it's fitting that his death is little more than a joke.

And it's also fitting that it's not Luz who decides his final fate. She's not the one who suffered the most at his hands.

Are you sure about that? She thought that she was complicit in genocide, was emotionally tortured by Belos, and was almost killed twice, and just beforehand, actually killed by him. Plus there's the implication that she summoned the Boiling Rain that started melting him, she just didn't crush what little remained of him.

Compared to the people he had been gaslighting and planning to wipe out for generations? Yeah, I'd say Luz didn't suffer as much.

I actually think it's kind of a shame Hunter didn't get in on the stomping too.

If Belos came back after that, he'd be crossing into Villain Sue territory IMO. Don't need to take precautions for that type of scenario, as no precautions would be effective.

Like I said, it'd be "Somehow Palpatine Returned" territory.

Belos comes back as a low-wage worker who's lost all motivation to do genocide stuff on witches because he now sees capitalism as the greatest evil of all

Ah, fanfiction… where we can torment our beloved characters even more than the show already has… (Dives into empress Luz fan fiction)

The sadist in me considers that dream sequence the best moment in the show, BTW. Just tormenting Luz with her guilt and having her friends turn on her… it’s so dark.

As for the Belos death debate, I may have mentioned in the past that there could be irony if Camilla or another human landed the finishing blow.

If it be human, I prefer it to be of mistaken identity. It could either be a bunch of modern cryptid hunters trying to find proof of the Wendigo. Or Jacob Hopkins leading a modern witch hunt and think Belos is a witch demon. And they have no clue it's actually an old witch hunter from several centuries ago.

I almost doubt that Hopkins could get enough people to follow him due to his… reputation. I can see him trying to capture Belos and accidentally killing him.

If Belos was captured by Hopkins, I don’t think he’d even know how to manipulate Hopkins… he’d be confused by the talk of Martians and 5G. He could try, but Hopkins is too chaotic. His best choice would be possession but he would have to change towns, since Hopkins’ rep is in the toilet in Gravesfield.
