SO, not sure if this is the best forum for this question, but I need some help on this one.

I'm working towards something, probably an RP, which centres entirely around time travel, and I wanted to set up some groups that might not take an active role, but represent the different goals and interests one might take when going zip-zap-boing across the time-space continuum. There's the Time Conquerors, like Marvel's Kang, who are interested in taking over various time periods. A little lower on the 'evil' ladder, there's of course the Time Thieves, like that one game with Carmen Sandiego where the bad guys stole artefacts throughout history. There's the Time Police, like, say, the History Monks in Discworld. Then you've got the Time Observers, who prohibit interference in favour of just watching (I want to say Time Lords or the Watcher, but I feel like there may be other options out there)

As for the rest...well, maybe there could be Time Historians/Archeologists who just go back to learn about different cultures in time, or a Time Tourist Board or something? Either way, I can't think of any good examples for what I need, which is a group sizeable and powerful enough that they'd be kept in the wings to advise the protagonists. Basically, what I'm asking for is if anyone knows any examples in fiction of groups that fit that specification. Hell, maybe anyone has any thoughts for other factions that I haven't considered yet?

I just tought of something:

A group on the present, that goes to the future and try to bring technology and knowledge from the future, to gain an advantage on their current time. But this makes the future change, so we have a strong institution on the future to try and catch these people before they can take anything from the future to change it.

Maybe some technology helps them keep track of everything that changes. Or something like that.

Edit: To clarify: Maybe the guys in the "present" lost some kind of war or power struggle against the guys in the future, so this is their way of trying to tip the scales and change the result.

I see...So rather than stealing from the past, there's an arms race involving raiders of the future, and an organisation trying to limit them. Interesting, interesting, thanks for the idea.
