Megapolis Streets

Magpie looked up at the sky, gaping widely.

And then she heard the message.

"Conquering? Not my city, and definitely not my world!"

"You'll soon know who you're dealing with!"

Magpie turned into a magpie and flew off to meet her friends, wherever they may be.

Alejandro entered his apartment, and noticed that his door was unlocked. Suspiciously, he opened the door and looked around. From behind him, he heard a voice.

"Chroma, it appears we meet at last."

He recognized that voice. Alejandro turned around with a start and embraced the shorter man he used to travel with: Lucas Stormrider.
"Lucas, what are you doing here?"
"Just wanted to drop by. Say, aliens haven't invaded yet, have they?"
"Uh, no...?"
"Huh."

Lucas turned on Alejandro's TV, and when it winked on, the alien's broadcast started playing. He looked at the other man expectantly.

"Well, damn. Hey, did you guys come to help out or...?"
"Um, uh... no. I just thought I'd come back to your time to give you a warning, can't interfere otherwise, time stuff, you know. I gotta go, nice to see you, good luck, bye!"

Before Alejandro could respond, Lucas pressed a button on his watch and disappeared in a flash of light.

"God damn time cops."

Running toward the city's center, Chroma dialed Archaemus.

"Hey, you might wanna help us out, aliens are attacking, as you may know."
"Yeah, I'm excited!"
"What?"
"Hey, you don't see this everyday."
"Whatever, just find me, you're a god, you should know where I'm at."

Shortly, Chroma arrived at a street, where he spotted a familiar looking bird.

Hotel Teritahii

"That's so sweet dear..." Matten stares flatly at her devoteee who complemented her future vision with a crack that 'twas a good thing my D&D cleric gets instant vision.' She smiled at him though. I won't shove a fist up your derriere because it's going to get probed and I'll enjoy watching...

Read more of a reflex than a reaction when Matten's followers began to stockpile things and bunker down. The alien announcement was only proof.

"I was much nicer, when I'd announce a people's oncoming subjegation..."

"Going to reminisce or save us?"

"A daeva's gotta have her fun, Teritahii..."

Megapolis Streets

Magpie chirped a tune at Chroma's arrival and turned back into a human.

"Should we meet up with Matten?"

Chroma waved at the girl.

"Good idea, but if I know Matten, she'll show up any second now..."

Magpie pulls a phone out of her pocket and checks the news. The President of the United States is live on TV!

"My fellow Americans" he begins solemnly.

"As you know by now, Earth is threatened by unknown aliens. I assure you that we will not surrender to them. All our forces are being mobilized. The only problem is the location of the enemy vehicles. It cannot be a coincidence that they located their vehicles over major population centers. They are using our cities as human shields."

"So hijack the damn ships, and move them!" Magpie snaps.

"Well, if they control anything like a car, I can move 'em." Chroma boasts.

"I could probably hijack it." the thief girl agrees.

The President continued: "Due to the gravity of the situation, I'm hereby appealing to our entire super-powered citizenship for assistance. Yes, even the villains. "

"We are releasing all of Super Lock's inmates who agree to help. Except for the murderous ones of course. Their sentences will be reduced if they significantly contribute."

"...This complicates matters." Magpie says.

"Oooh, wonder if Toro wants to see my second advent." Matten says.

"We should hijack the ships." Magpie inists. "It would be crazy awesome."

"I don't disagree, dearie." Matten nods.

"That'd be cool." Chroma agrees.

"But we can't assume they're using English or even our programming languages. So, we can't be reckless and drive those things into my capital...er our cities." Matten reasons.

"Well, up is up no matter what. From there, we can figure everything else out." Chroma concludes.

"Oh, does your librarian god have all the answers?" Matten snorted.

"But these things found a way to speak English! So, there has to be a way to read their language." Magpie reasoned.

"I'd like to think Archaemus will show up after Matten's remark: Chroma smirked.

"Yeah! Yeah! Books mean language, and that might just work!"

"Ah, no wonder we like you, Maggie." the daeva nodded.

"Did someone say books?" Archie said, appearing as if on cue.

"BOOKS ARE GOOD STUFF, YO!" Magpie cheered.

Matten looked in disapproval, but said "But they are good stuff, yes"

"Good sir, we need a way to read the alien's language to that we can hijack their ships! Would you like to lend us a way to do so?" Magpie pleaded.

The heroes then notice things coming in and out of the ship. They look like alien jets. They are not attacking however. It looks more like patrols. Or a show of force. Or both.

"I'll see what I know..." Archie says. Gather Knowledge roll 36

"That creature... it seems talking is not natural to its species. Not verbally, anyway. Using speech was very difficult to it."

"Perchance, can you tell us what is natural to it? Clicks, chemical signals?" Matten asks.

"I noticed none of that."

"Well, Chroma still loves you." she says cynically.

"A hive mind of some sort?" Magpie suggests.

"Er, our thanks." Matten says.

"That is a possibility, indeed, child." Archie continued.

"I can probably distract the ship while you guys sneak on. I've been meaning to stretch my legs a bit." Chroma states.

"Are they just patrolling, then" Matten turns smartly away from the storyteller and watches the ships carefully. Analysis roll 40

"That's really kind of you. Thank you, sir!" Magpie says to Archie.

"No problem, kiddo."

Matten decides they are watching out in case of any signs of resistance. One keeps flying over where you are, just above the rooftops. The mothership seems unguarded.

Matten growls at Archibald—yes that would be his designation, no matter what his real name was—before thinking better of it with Magpie around.

"It takes effort, yes, but these things can speak English whether through their own organs or machinery. Furthermore, that little flyboy has taken a shine to our neighborhood, but we don't know what they're looking for, and I haven't detected any guard for the mother ship. Too many unknowns."

"I leave it to you two." she said deliberately excluding Archibald, "Shall we capture this one flyer and perhaps raise an alarm or try to sneak past all of the patrols and go straight for the mother ship, potentially triggering an unknown defense? Or we can wait, and observe more."

"I bet I could teleport us there, but I don't know what we would drop into, and I could get feelings of the present, but that will take some time. And if you do decide to wait and ask that of me, do not ever bring up how the clerics in D&D do it. I will let the aliens probe you."

"The more information we have on the enemy, the better! We should be careful and observe a bit longer. Who knows what tricks they've got up their figurative sleeves?" Magpie insists.

Archie begins to say, "...How do the cl-"

"Don't."

"Let's wait a bit and see. Maybe someone will try to do something stupid. Scratch that, someone will do something stupid." Chroma suggested.

"Yeah, any good heist needs good planning first!" Magpie agreed.

"I'm down with heisting an alien ship." Chroma said.

Matten, who had been just about to teleport Archie naked into the heart of the ship, sighed and returned her hand to her hip. "So be it, then. We have a stakeout, and I shall do it my own way..."
