Advice for making a unique hero for my story?

I am currently planning on writing a Magical Girl(and boy) story with Shounen-esqe action, and to deconstruct tropes in the Shounen, Shoujo, and Magical Girl Genre. I don't want it to simply be another Madoka clone or for the action to get as violent as the likes of Magical Girl Raising Project and/or Magical Girl Site (both of which make Madoka look like a Church Service). I haven't found all of the themes and story elements that I wanted to tackle within the work just yet so I won't go into any more depth about it for now.

So far, I thought that I could make my heroine be a combination of the Stock Shounen Hero and the Stock Shoujo Protagonist but by also omitting and subverting the obvious clichés.
